The Owl House, a terrible series and an even worse experience // The Owl House, uma péssima serie e uma experiencia pior ainda

Over the past three months, two colleagues and I have embarked on a particularly interesting journey. The three of us started watching The Owl House and discussed each season in our own podcasts. In these three podcasts, which were a lot of fun to produce, we criticized the series in various ways, mainly due to how victimized and poorly written it can be. Few characters were saved, and even fewer costume plot points can be said to have been well-done. And for the record, we know about the cancellation and shortening of the series. That said, we still think it's a series that ultimately underperforms. Its third season is a spectacle in itself. But for those interested and able to speak Portuguese, here are the three shows we criticized all three seasons of. Soon, we'll do an episode trying to "fix" the show, which I'll include in this post when it's released.

Nos ultimos 3 meses, eu e mais dois colegas entramos em uma jornada particularmente interessante, nós tres começamos a ver The Owl House e falamos de cada uma das temporadas em podcasts proprios. Nesses tres podcasts, que foram bem divertidos de produzir, criticamos a serie de diversas maneiras, principalmente do quão vitimista e mal escrita ela consegue ser Poucos personagens se salvaram e ainda menos plot points de fato podemos dizer que foram bem feitos E para constar, nós sabemos sobre a questão do cancelamento e do encurtamento que a serie sofreu. Dito isso, ainda achamos que no fim é uma serie muito abaixo do esperado, sua terceira temporada é um show a parte, mas para quem estiver interessado e saiba falar portugues aqui estão os 3 programas em que criticamos todas as 3 temporadas e daqui um tempo faremos um episodio tentando "Consertar" o show, que fixarei nesse post quando for lançado

I'm rewatching the first season of The Owl House to make a podcast and as someone who has followed the fandom from the outside for a long time, I'm quite surprised at how much the fandom is content with so little.

I'm someone who watches a lot of Tokusatsu and I can say with absolute certainty that many of the plots in TOH were much better worked out in several other series in many ways.

I remember at the time when everyone was applauding Lumity, rightly so because of the importance that the couple has, but we can't deny how it was rushed and only did harm to Amity's character, at the same time we had another sapphic couple in Kamen Rider Revice that, in addition to being much better developed, had much more chemistry and this applies to several other things, like the entire plot of the Collector with Belos is a more rushed and poorly written version of one of King-Ohger's biggest plots.

While in TOH the non-binary character is almost an extra and reduced to a love interest, King-Ohger's non-binary character is one of the protagonists and is always sold as the most competent and powerful among the main characters, while Luz is sold as a "strange girl" who is getting in touch with the magical world for a journey of maturation, everything seems to be thrown at her very easily, but on the other hand we have the protagonist of Kamen Rider Gotchard, someone who is really on a journey in the magical world of the series and who has a great arc to finally be able to use alchemy while going through the trials of the series while Luz gains magical powers practically for free

And we have Hunter, who everyone loves his redemption arc, which even though this makes him one of the best characters in the series, it is still a very simple arc, since in the same year a series was coming out with an antagonist character with very similar themes and arc, but executed in a much more efficient way

And this goes for many other plots, which I think would be better left for those interested to pursue.

That's why I make an appeal, especially to fans who consider TOH the pinnacle of writing in children's programs: WATCH OTHER THINGS!!!!!!!!

i really like your analysis and comparison with utmost respect, but as someone from within the fandom, i would like to clarify that a lot of us are not content with the little bit we got.

i completely agree that a lot of it was rushed and/or left incomplete and similar plots were executed better in other series!! there was so much potential left untouched and poorly delivered throughout the series.

however, im unsure if you are made aware of the cancelation and the choices that dana terrace had made due to being constrained by the mouse. she was told about the cancellation by the time they were making 2x11 - follies at the coven day parade. so everything that she had initially planned had to be scrapped or edited to fit into the shortening of the series. she went all out for season 3 on the important plotlines, but there was still stuff she had to cut due to limited time/space.

since dana has left disney, she no longer has rights over the series despite being the creator. so we may never get to see any more official content. if i recall correctly, disney didnt understand how beloved the series was until dana left and then tried to backpedal and ask her to do more for the series after they realized just how popular it was but she said she was never going back. as another creator, i completely understand her choice and applaud sticking up for herself even though it sucks not to get any more official content.

Sim, eu sabia do encurtamento, mas tem muitas das falhas de TOH que existem desde a primeira temporada, seja a constante troca na personalidade de alguns personagens como a Amity e até no apressamento de Lumity já antes do cancelamento e pessoalmente eu não acho que a serie poderia melhoras mesmo sem o cancelamento

"Just a normal girl, who entered a world she shouldn't have"

Ana was a completely normal girl, who as a child loved stories involving magical creatures and aliens, but all that changed when her father died and she decided to abandon ideas involving fantasy. Today she helps her "good friend" Maria with her astronomy projects

However, one day, the morning after they sent a rocket into space, which had Ana's younger sister's baby tooth inside, strange beings appear behind Ana, who escapes and goes home, but ends up being followed. The beings then reveal themselves to be aliens who came after Ana's sister, as she is in fact not only an extraterrestrial being, but also the remnant of what was known as the perfect life form. Desperate, Ana then eats a special meat that was in her house that makes Ana take on a demonic form with red scales all over her body.
