So you’re surprised that you’re invited to the wedding. And god— you try so hard not to let your mind wander about patrick. You hadn’t seen him since a falling out that summer; Patrick tearing your fingers away from his belt because he met someone and he was serious about her. As if he could never be serious about you.
Plus, you’re dating a great guy and it’s almost comical how different he is from Patrick. He’s sweet and doting and was the one who begged to make things official with you. He’s intentional and came from a very stable upbringing. He’s blonde.
you feel guilty when you RSVP because you know that your main motivation to go is not to celebrate your friend at all. And, when you walk into the wedding venue, it’s clear patrick has no idea you’d be attending.
He’s taller than you remember, maybe because of his shoes. It’s clear he hasn’t shaven in a few days but it fails to look unkempt with him. No matter what, he always looks good. Especially when he’s wearing a freshly pressed tux and you can tell just you being there has gotten under his skin. Made him itch.
And better yet, the girl he left you for is on his arm. Slender, beautiful, and oh so agreeable. Not a piece of work like you.
The whole night you share not-so-inconspicuous glances. Patrick’s jaw ticks as he swallows drink after drink, cheeks increasingly flushed. Frustration, maybe. You do the same, throwing in a few eye rolls for good measure. And part of you wishes you’d taken your boyfriend just not to give him the satisfaction of assuming you’re still single after all this time. But all of you knows exactly why you didn’t bring him.
Because it’s almost midnight and patrick kisses his girlfriends—no fiancé’s—cheek. A clear lie that he’s going to excuse himself. But he waltzes right over to you and crooks his finger toward you. And just like you six years ago, you follow his every command. Which you wish you wouldn’t because it’s fucking humiliating how much power he has over you—and he knows it. He scoffs at how easy it is.
“Since when are you and my sister still friends?” Patrick pushes his hair back and looks behind him to make sure nobody is there.
“I’m just as surprised to be here, trust me.”
“Still single?” Patrick fingers the gold band he’s wearing and you want to fucking punch him.
“No. He couldn’t come.” A lie. “Looks like you finally found the guts to settle. She’s pretty—I give you a year, maybe two. But I’m sure you’ll knock her up easily. You’ve done that before, right?”
Patrick’s smirk falls into a frown because he confided in his sister that he got a fling pregnant and she was not supposed to tell you.
“shut up.” He takes a swig of his drink before setting it down on a small table nearby. “You think you’re so fucking cute. Wearing the tightest dress imaginable too. Probably because you assumed I’d be here?”
“Right, because everything is about you. And for you. You’re the most conceited fucking person I’ve ever met.”
“Ironic coming from you. Remember when you slapped me for not fucking you after I met my fiancé? As if me meeting someone was the most offensive blow to your ego.” Patrick’s hand has clamped onto your arm and you hate that it sends a shiver down your spine.
“You’re the one who came over to talk to me. I wasn’t going to even come up to you tonight. What’s in the past is in the past right? It’s been six years, patrick. And you’re still thinking about me?”
Patrick releases his bottom lip from between his teeth and leans in to whisper in your ear. “And if it were six years ago, I would take you to that bathroom and fuck this attitude right out of you and you’d love every second. Beg for my cum, for me to stay. Just like the last time I saw you. Too bad, huh?”
You pry his hand off your arm and walk away, because god—you don’t want to give him the satisfaction.
