Legkedvesebb gyerekkori emléke, amikor kb. 11 évesen egy országos rajzversenyen nyert egy távirányítós autót, a feleségével minden utazásuk alkalmával begyűjtenek egy apró design tárgyat, az olasz ételeket kedveli, a tészta, a fokhagyma, a paradicsom és a sajtok miatt, egy képzőművészeti megmozdulással párosított zajos, zenei koncertet mindenképpen össze szeretne még hozni valamikor.
His best childhood memory is when he won a remote control car on a national drawing contest at the age of 11, anywhere they travel with his wife they collect a small but design object, he prefers Italian cuisine because of pasta, garlic, tomato and cheese, at one point he would like to organize a noisy concert paired up with fine art elements.

1. Milyen típusú emlékek inspirálnak jobban: a jók vagy a rosszak?/What kind of memories inspire you the most: good or bad ones? Nem is olyan egyszerű a válasz. Azt hiszem, az alkalmazott feladatoknál a jók, az autonóm alkotásoknál inkább a rosszak, amiket valahogy ki kell adnom magamból.
It is not so easy to give an answer to this question. I would say that considering applied works the good ones, however when it comes to autonomous work, I would say rather the bad ones inspire me, the ones that I have to get out of my system.
2. Ha újjászülethetnél egy ma élő vagy már halott művész személyében, kit választanál?/If you could reincarnate as a living or dead artist, who would you choose to be? Ha a kortársaknál maradunk, akkor tervezőgrafikusként szívesen lettem volna Vaughan Oliver a 4AD kiadónál a ’90-es években, vagy David Carson az egykori Ray Gun magazinok art directora. Képzőművészként csodálom azt az anyagi forrást, amit Matthew Barney megkap a grandiózus projektjeihez (ráadásul Björk-öt is sikerült elvennie, igaz ez a házasság már véget ért). Egy zenészt is szerettem volna felhozni, de az igazi „rákkenroll“ életstílusra a fárasztó turnékkal, alkoholizmussal, herointúladagolásokkal stb., annyira mégsem vágynék.
If we stick with contemporary artists then as a graphics designer I would have like to be Vaughan Oliver at the 4AD publishing house in the 90’s, or David Carson the art director of the Ray Gun magazines. As an artist I admire how much financial resources does Matthew Barney get for his projects (and on top of it all he even managed to marry Björk, although that marriage has ended by now). I wanted to come up with a musician as well but frankly the real “rock’n’roll” lifestyle doesn’t attract me too much with the tiring tours, alcoholism, heroin overdoses etc.
3. Hogyan lendülsz túl az időszakos alkotói válságon?/How do you overcome a temporary artistic crisis? Csak akkor kerültem eddig alkotói válságba, ha túlvállaltam magam, bár néha inspirálni is tud, ha 4-5 melót csinálok párhuzamosan. Szóval változó, de egyre gyakrabban tehernek érzem, ezért mindig megígérem magamnak, hogy válogatni fogok a felkérésekben, amit egyébként mostanában be is tartok. Így a válsághelyzet is kevesebb.
The only times when I experienced a creative crisis was when I had too many projects at the same time even though, it can also be very inspiring when I am working on 4-5 different things at a time. So it depends, but lately it is more of a burden so I promised myself that in the future I will select the offers I get which I successfully been keeping lately. This means I have to deal with less crisis.
4. Kinek mutatod meg először az új alkotásodat?/Who sees your work first? Mivel nagyrészt otthon dolgozom, a feleségemnek, aki egész jó szűrő lett az együtt töltött évek alatt.
Since I mostly work at home, my wife gets to see them first, who actually became an excellent filter through the years we’ve spent together.

5. Mi a legkedvesebb gyerekkori emléked?/What is your favourite childhood memory? Egyszer egy országos rajzversenyen kb. 11 éves koromban nyertem egy távirányítós autót.
When I was 11 I won a remote control car as the first prize for a national drawing contest.
6. Mit érzel, amikor egy másik művész a tiédhez hasonló munkát készít?/What do you feel when a fellow artist creates something similar to your work? Néha idegesít (ilyen volt a híres/hírhedt „Danube“ betűtípus 2002-ben, amit az általam tervezett Duna TV logotípia alapján készített el egy magyar grafikus, majd felrakta valamelyik ingyenes fontletöltő oldalra és a betű elég szép karriert futott be nemzetközi szinten), néha pedig szórakoztat, hiszen jó érzés, ha hatni tudok a kortárs grafikusokra.
Sometimes it is annoying (like the famous/infamous “Danube” font in 2002 which was created by a Hungarian designer after the logo type of Duna Television which was my design, and then he put it up on one of these free font downloader pages which resulted in a pretty impressive career for this font internationally) and sometimes it entertains me because it feels good that I have an impact on contemporary graphic designers.
7. Mit szeretnél, hogy miről emlékezzenek majd rád?/What would you like to be remembered by? Egyre inkább bajban vagyok, mert múlnak az évek, én pedig annak ellenére, hogy elég sok saját projekttel foglalkoztam az elmúlt 16 évben és foglalkozom jelenleg is, még mindig úgy érzem, hogy nem hoztam létre azt, ami szerintem emlékezetes maradhat. Ha az ArtHungry esetében bejön az, amit elképzeltem, akkor talán lesz valami.
This causes me a lot of trouble because years are passing by and even though I had been working on a lot of private projects in the past 16 years and I still have projects on my own in process, I still feel that I haven’t created anything remarkable. If my idea works with the ArtHungry than maybe it will lead somewhere.
8. Gyűjtesz valamit?/Are you collecting something? Bárhová utazunk a feleségemmel, mindig beszerzünk egy apró design tárgyat.
No matter where we travel with my wife, we always buy a small design object.

9. Kedvenc budapesti pillanat?/Favourite Budapest moment? 2015. december 22., a klinikán vártuk a fiunk születését és én kiugrottam mini karácsonyfát keresni a városba.
On the 22nd of December 2015, we were expecting our son to be born at the clinic and I popped out to buy a mini Christmas tree.
10. Mi volt a legnagyobb őrültség, amit eddig csináltál?/What was the craziest thing that you have ever done? 16 évesen autóstoppal kimentünk Párizsba (és vissza), ami elég komoly szituációkat eredményezett. Mivel csak a kajára vittünk pénzt (arra sem sokat), a legkülönbözőbb helyeken kellett aludnunk. A legnagyobb véglet egy Mannheim közeli autópálya mellett egy parkban volt, ahol bokrokból „ácsoltam“ bunkert és csak hajnalban vettük észre, hogy egy csomó nyúlüreg és persze nyúl között töltöttük az éjszakát. Elég szürreális élmény volt az a reggel, amikor ott ugráltak körülöttünk.
When I was 16 we hitchhiked to Paris (and back) which resulted in pretty serious situations. Since we only had money on us for food (not much for that either) we had to sleep in all different places. The most extreme of all was next to the highway near Mannheim, where I made ourselves a little shed from the branches of the nearby bushes and we only realized in the morning that we spent the night surrounded by rabbit holes and rabbits of course. It was surreal in the morning they were jumping all around us.
11. Van-e napi rutinod?/Do you have a daily routine? Amióta megszületett a fiam, sajnos igen. :)
Since my son is born, unfortunately I do. :)
12. Kedvenc tárgyad?/Favourite object? Az Apple cuccaim (mert okosak) és a motorom (mert szép), bár már egyre ritkábban használom.
My Apple stuff because they’re smart and my motorcycle because it’s pretty, although I use it less and less.

13. Hogyan fogsz neki egy új munkának?/How do you get started on a new project? Régen sokat skicceltem ceruzával papírra, de egy idő óta ez már inkább fejben megy: bárhol, bármikor képes vagyok gondolatban tervezni, aztán leülök a gép elé és miután rengeteg tervet készítettem, kiválasztom a működőképes irányokat.
Back in the day I used to sketch with pencil on paper, but for a while now I do this step in my head: wherever, whenever I am capable of planning in my mind and then I sit down to my computer and after I made a lot of layouts, I choose the ones that could work.
14. Van egy jól körülhatárolható hangulat, amikor könnyebb számodra az alkotás?/Is there a particular mood that makes creating and working easier for you? Már megtanultam alkalmazkodni az adott körülményekhez, de a legideálisabb, ha egyedül dolgozom éjszaka, amikor senki nem nyaggat. Ez egy kilenc hónapos fiúval viszont nem igazán működik, mert mostanában akkor dolgozom, amikor ő is hagyja.
I learned to adapt to given circumstances, but the most ideal is when I work alone during the night, because everyone leaves me alone. With a 9 months old boy this doesn’t really work, so I do my job when he lets me to.
15. Sör vagy bor?/Beer or wine? Egyértelműen bor. Amióta családi borászatokkal dolgozom nagyon jó minőségű borokat ihatok, ráadásul nagyjából ismerem is a bor készítésének a hátterét, látom milyen szívvel és odaadással csinálják.
Wine obviously. Since I am working together with family wineries I get the chance to drink very good quality wine, moreover I know the background of the wine making processes, I see how these people put their hearts in it.
16. Kutya vagy macska?/Dog or cat? Kutyánk van, de nem válogatok. Minden állat jöhet, csak érezze jól magát.
We have a dog but I am not picky. Any animal can come they should just have a good time.

17. Milyen a stílusod?/What is your style like? A saját művészeti stílusomat a sötét, zajos és az elegáns, precíz váltogatásával tudnám meghatározni. A tervezőgrafikai munkáimra egyébként sokan mondják, hogy letisztult/minimál, de én szeretem azt hinni, hogy változatosan oldom meg a feladatokat, mindig illeszkedve a megrendelői igényekhez.
I would define my own artistic style as being a mixture of dark, noisy, elegant and precise. Although most people call my graphic design works clean/minimal, but I like to think that I can carry out tasks in diverse ways always in compliance with the needs of my customers.
18. Mi az, ami a leginkább feltölt?/What can recharge you the most? Lazulás valami tengerparton, ahol nincs a közelben számítógép.
Chilling at the beach, where there is no computer anywhere near.
19. Kedvenc város?/Favourite city? Barcelona. Mert izgalmas város, pezsgő kulturális élettel, ráadásul van tengerpartja, amit szépen rendben is tartanak.
Barcelona. Because it’s an exciting city with a vivid cultural life and moreover it has a beach which they keep nice and clean.
20. Hol leszel 10 év múlva?/Where will you be in 10 years? Szerintem Budapesten fogunk élni, de több külföldi kirendeltséget is vízionálok (nyugat és kelet felé egyaránt) az ArtHungry terjeszkedésével. Szóval ingázás lesz.
I think we will be living in Budapest, but I can visualize multiple foreign offices (both to the West and East) seeing the expansion of ArtHungry. So I think I will be travelling a lot.

21. Kedvenc étel?/Favourite food? Az olasz ételeket kedvelem, a tészta, a fokhagyma, a paradicsom és a sajtok miatt.
I prefer Italian cuisine because of pasta, garlic, tomatoes and cheese.
22. Kedvenc évszak?/Favourite season? Talán a tavasz, mert jó látni, hogy minden felfrissül évről-évre.
Maybe spring, because it is nice to see how everything refreshes year after year.
23. Mi a legrosszabb tulajdonságod?/What is your worst characteristic? A munkában maximalista, talán túlságosan is precíz vagyok és sajnos ezt elvárom másoktól is.
I am a maximalist when it comes to work, maybe I am a little bit too precise and unfortu-nately I expect that from others as well.
24. Melyik korban élnél szívesen?/In which era would you prefer to live in? Vagy az ’50-es évek Amerikájában (a rá jellemző zene, stílus, divat, design miatt), vagy az 1800-as évek Párizsának bohém művészvilágában.
Either in the 50’s in the US (because of its music, style, fashion and design) or in the 1800’s in the artistically bohemian Paris.

25. Mi az az alkotás, amit mindenképpen meg kell csinálnod, mielőtt meghalsz?/What is that specific artwork you have to accomplish before you die? Egy képzőművészeti megmozdulással párosított zajos, zenei koncertet mindenképpen össze szeretnék még hozni valamikor.
I would like to organize a music concert mixed with fine art elements.
26. Ha egyetlen tanácsot kellene adni más, esetleg még kezdő tehetségeknek, mi lenne az?/If you could give one piece of advice to someone else, maybe to a beginner talent, what would it be? Sok-sok munka, de ha nem élvezed, amit csinálsz, inkább lépj tovább.
A lot of work, but if you don’t enjoy what you’re doing than move forward.

“A Magyar Képzőművészeti Egyetem tervezőgrafikus szakán szereztem diplomát 1999-ben.
2000-ben két társammal megalapítottam a Grotesque Grafikai Stúdiót, amely autonóm és alkalmazott grafikával, elsősorban grafikai arculattervezéssel foglalkozott 2010-ig.

A 2011 végén Simon Says néven indított projektem elsősorban arculattervezéssel, brand építéssel és kiadványtervezéssel foglalkozik, többek között olyan állandó ügyfelekkel, mint a Design Hét Budapest, a Heimann Családi Birtok, vagy a Recorder magazin.
2012-óta társalapítója és művészeti vezetője vagyok a NERO Homme/Journal divattal és kortárs művészettel foglalkozó angol nyelvű magazinnak, melyet 2014-ben a XIX. Békéscsabai Tervezőgrafikai Biennálén fődíjjal jutalmaztak.
2014-ben az Aranyrajzszög Társaság által szervezett Graphifesten elnyertem az „utóbbi évek tervezőgrafikai tevékenységéért“ járó Aranyrajzszög Díjat.
2015-ben két társammal megalapítottuk a hazai online portfólióknak helyet adó ArtHungry.com közösségi oldalt.”
“I achieved my diploma in 1999 at the Hungarian University of Fine Arts as a graphic designer major.
In 2000 I founded the Grotesque Graphics Studio with two partners of mine which dealt mostly with applied graphics, primarily with graphic image design until 2010.
Until 2008, I was a founder and co-owner of the seasonally published PEP! cultural maga-zine, which was awarded twice, in 2005 with the Hungarian Design Award and in 2008 it won the “Cultural magazine of the Year” at the “MAGMA” competition of the Creative magazine.
In 2010 alongside with young colleagues, we founded the Phenomenon.hu pop-cultural online magazine for young people which was awarded with first prize in online category at the Media Design competition of Cultural magazine in 2014.
At the end of 2011 I started my first own project called Simon Says dealing with corporate identity design, brand building and layout design with costumers such as Design week Budapest, Heimann Family Winery and the Recorder magazine.
Since 2012 I am co-founder and art director of NERO Homme/Journal a fashion and contemporary art magazine in English, which was awarded with first prize in 2014 at the 19th Békéscsaba Graphic Design Biennial.
In 2014 I won the Golden Thumbtack Award for the “best graphic design work of the past years” at the Graphifest organized by the Golden Thumbtack Society.
In 2015 with two of my partners we founded ArtHungry.com which is a social platform for Hungarian art portfolios.”
