JoshWorlds Game of the Year 2017
I used to write a lot more about games and stuff, and I especially enjoy writing about games I liked. BEHOLD, the games that were on my list this year:
Zelda: Breath of the Wild
I have at various points thought I could get some words down on paper about this game to explain why I love it so much… but I won’t. It’s got a near-perfect core loop, and I love it. Maybe my favorite Zelda ever.
Best Mario since Galaxy. My favorite since Mario 64.
Best games of years past I played this year:
Didn’t actually play this on the Switch, but I did sink way too many hours into it. I can’t wait to dive back into it next year after they add multiplayer.
I did play this closer to its release for a decent chunk of hours, but I went back this year with a ton of mods enabled. My playthrough was cut short by a failed hard drive, but I had a blast, and saw more of that game than I had before. I see why people love it now.
Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp
Why do people hate this? Animal Crossing is boring on a good day, and this makes it feel like I have a reason to keep going back to it. Sure, it’s a maintenance game, sure it’s a bit scaled down… but I made a hot spring cafe at my campsite… and I’m friends with a cool alligator with a dumb face.
I actually hate this game, but damnit, you won’t beat my high score.
I wish there was more to this game than there is, but it’s maybe the most addicting form of solitaire (the card game) out there.
PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds
I never actually got myself to play - it’s not generally the type of game I get into. However! I have watched a lot of this game on streams, which is something I’ve never done with any game ever before. I love watching this game get played. Thanks, Awful Squad.
I have a PS4, and I want this game. I shall play it. I shall.
Something about really great endings?
Something about quirky, surprising characters a la Undertale?
Best Assassin’s Creed since Black Flag?
Please, EA, have a good year soon.
