was i different from any of you women of spoon river? did not all of you distract attention with one hand while taking money from his pocket with the other hand... not letting the right hand know what the left hand did, nor letting the communtiy know it, not even the victim? did it make a difference that you performed the trick in homes, while i did it in the hallways? did it make any difference that you did it with your husbands, while i did it with gawking cattle men, wandering the streets after having sold their cattle, their pockets stuffed with twenty dollar bills? was my spirirual attitude any different from yours? did i not use benevolent animal magnetism the same as you?

i like sunsets because they let me know it will be dark soon - and i like the dark.

i don’t know if my cat actually likes me or if i’m just the reason he gets to eat - and he likes eating.

my dog likes me - and i like him.

i would prefer to read something depressing, happy ending or not, than a story that is perpetually optimistic and in which happy endings are distributed to each player.

i want to be the first in my marriage “to go” - because i am afraid of dead things and of being alone.

i am afraid of how the process of death will go down for me - will it be quietly in my sleep or violently? this petrifies me and i obsess over scenarios quite often.

green is my favorite color - i pretend that i don’t know specifically why - but i do.

i wish my brain was wired to create music. everyone loves music, including me.
