A few years ago, the idea of a World After Advertising seemed odd for newspapers. Today, it seems like a rapidly approaching reality.
Newspapers in the developed world are having a tough time and South Africa may not be that far behind. Those at the helm have to be innovative to find new workable business models for newspapers.
Technology is changing most industries rapidly, but few businesses have been so shaken as that of journalism. The World Wide Web and the proliferation of digital communication tools have decimated newspaper profits and completely shifted the business model behind journalism. The tenets of storytelling remain the same, though, and some companies have used the digital revolution to grow and provide incredible multimedia reportage that was impossible or prohibitively expensive just a few years ago. The sites listed here offered some of the best journalistic content available in 2012, and for that they deserve recognition.
