365 Day Music Challenge: Week Five
This week was a relaxing change of pace than the normal busy life I've come accustomed to in university. Let’s get into this week’s picks: playlist is here and the prompt list can be found here.
Day Twenty-Nine: A song that describes a friendship
Gotta Go My Own Way - Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens. Since coming to university I’ve been able to reflect on previous friendships I’ve had throughout my life. This song doesn’t describe a particular friendship, rather any friendship that I am no longer a part of. Sometimes it is just best to grow apart and head in different directions.
Day Thirty: A song from a band/artist that you’re planning to see in the next 6 months.
Hang Ups - Scott Helman. Helman is coming to my university city in March, and my some of my friends and I are pretty big fans. We obviously got tickets the day they went on sale, and we’re very excited! None of us have seen him live before and I can’t wait.
Day Thirty-One: Your class song (or what you want your class song to be)
Long Live - Taylor Swift. Where I live class songs aren’t really a thing, but I always wished this would be the song. I wished they would have played this song at my graduation, but hopefully there will be many other opportunities for it to play over a P.A system.
Day Thirty-Two: A song that plays to your inner hopeless romantic
Baby I’m Yours - Arctic Monkeys. This is actually a cover of a song by Barbara Lewis, but Turner’s rendition makes my heart swoon. The lyrics are quite cheesy, but that’s part of the fun. I wouldn’t min being serenaded to this at least once in my life.
Day Thirty-Three: A song that gets stuck in your head as soon as you think of it
It’s Not Living (If It’s Not With You) - The 1975. This chorus is so catchy! Every time I think of this song it’ s immediately stuck in my head for at least a week. The song is rather dismal, but the band makes it become art.
Day Thirty-Four: A song you think of to replace the one that’ s currently stuck there
Ohio - Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young. It’s no surprise that Neil Young is once again on this list. This song is also catchy, but most likely less annoying than whatever is currently stuck in my head.
Day Thirty-Five: Your favourite cover song
Where Did You Sleep Last Night - Nirvana. Nirvana’s MTV Unplugged is riddled with covers from Kurt Cobain’s favourite artists. The most well known is The Man Who Sold The World, originally by David Bowie, but it isn’t my favourite. Where Did You Sleep Last Night is incredibly, hauntingly beautiful - the vocals are raw and the musicality is spectacular. It is for good reason this is my favourite cover song: once you listen to it it’s hard to forget.
