Studies show that patients with a high expectation of the effect of antidepressants took antidepressants much more frequently and were nevertheless more depressed than patients with a low expectation of antidepressants.
Where Is the Compassion in Psychiatric Care?
Check this out by Diane McIntosh.
The abuse of power and the use of humiliation and violence by staff on some psychiatric units have no place in a just and civilized society.
White Walls and Cold Smiles
They call it care behind locked steel, where silence hums and time can’t feel. White coats nod with hollow grace, writing charts, not reading face.
“Take your meds, you’ll feel just fine,” they say with tones so serpentine. Stripped of voice, of name, of choice, you scream within, without a voice.
They cage the pain with padded walls, pat on the head as freedom falls. A paper gown, a plastic bed— where healing feels more like being dead.
Openness is required of the patient, as this is conducive to healing; on the other hand, self-disclosure can be detrimental to the patient, e.g. if a diagnosis is subsequently made that leads to a (longer) stay in a closed ward.
Damn, I forgot to prohibit forcible feeding in my living will. Well, can still amend it ... will be a wonderful standoff in psych ward: me, refusing to eat and requesting to be let out; they, refusing to let me out and requesting me to eat.
Volume 1 of my textbook 'How to piss off psychward staff' will be available soon. Be sure to get your copy.
Undergoing CBT, what a waste of time ...
CBT is actually wonderful! Feeling good and confident again!
Apparently, around 14 percent of health care staff suffer from psychological disorders following an assault by patients.
That's nice. But let's raise that number.
It's exhausting to be me.
Congrats Americans, you are now officially the most ret....d people on this planet.
Undergoing CBT, what a waste of time ...
I have never felt that listless before.
How kids treat their parents when they no longer need food and shelter is a direct reflection of how the parents made them feel growing up
You will never exist again.
I believe that is a good thing.
My emotions have pretty much flatlined. Even without medication. Everything is grey and stale, again.
When you've hit rock bottom, then you need ... coercion! Yay to psychiatry! 😊
