Raisin Shortage || Ethan & Rye
"Did I?" She questioned before nodding. "Right… sorry. I’m a bit paranoid about it." She smiled a little as she followed him through the pet store, hoping that the new habitat for Wicket wouldn’t be too terribly expensive. Her job wasn’t exactly the best in the world, but it paid enough.
"It's alright. We can get that settled! Trust me, I know these shelters in and out. I can tell you which one will bring out the full potential in your P-" Ethan stops himself from saying 'Pokémon'. Incredible; years spent here and a curse comes in and messes up his entire routine. "For your pet."
That was almost a R.I.P. to his dignity; Ethan's glad he saved himself from that embarrassment.
"The ones on the cheaper side are made of plastic. The more expensive ones are wood and have glass sides, but I can try and help you find a less expensive wooden one if you want."
Raisin Shortage || Ethan & Rye
Rye smiled glad that at least someone seemed to know what they were doing in that town. She replaced wicket in her bag, pulling the flap back over so that he could sleep before following him. “I saw some back there… but they were all made of metal and that’s a bit of an issue in my home. She shook her head.
He rolls his eyes a bit and grins, shaking his head. "I know, silly, you already said that. I was gonna head to the left; see? We've got another section of shelters that are made of different materials over here. It's just back a little ways. C'mon!" Ethan continues his trek to the back, swinging and taking a left after following the length of one of the aisles.
what we lack [ ethan + gary ]
It had been an absolutely shitty week.
Ethan pulls one of the straps of his yellow backpack over his shoulder, trudging out of the biology classroom. One of the eager students running out knocks into him, effectively pushing the bag off of his shoulder, pencils and other equipment scattering everywhere, notebooks hanging lazily on the lip of the still-open backpack. He sighs, squatting down to pick up the supplies in a methodical manner.
Maybe everyone was right. Maybe he just needed to stay out of peoples' business.
Ethan knows that his mom would argue with them; Lyra too, but she hadn't exactly been present. After taking a long time to get all of his things organized, he begins heading towards his locker. He bends down slowly and begins removing things from his pack (funny, he should have just left them out in the first place) and begins stacking some of the books in his locker.
A squeal from a girl nearby alerts him and he slams the locker door shut, hastily zipping up his backpack. Normally he'd stand his ground and take it (again) as Gary Oak shoved him in a locker, and then the janitor or the occasional forgiving student would let him now. Ethan is fairly sure that half the school knows his locker combo by now because of the amount of times he's ended up in his own locker.
But today, he skitters away, pretty sure that Gary won't make the effort to follow him.
"Oh. Well… that’s too bad. Your spiel for a fictional taxidermy is actually kinda catchy.
Will you, please? Yeah. I’ll wait for you to get your phone book.”
"Alright, I've got the book. You ready? I'll read it off nice and slow -- [he recites a number into the phone]. You got it? When you're ready I'll read it off again to make sure you've got it. Also, thanks. Glad you enjoy my advertising."
Hi! it's too-old-to-believe (the struggles of being a side blog: can't send a proper ask without going on anon) Do you wanna start a new thread or do we just keep this one and do like, I don't know, a time skip?
outofpokéballs. whatever you want man! i’m not gonna lie i was kind of imagining them as phone buddies
"I’m not sure whther I can follow what you just said but I think I got most of it. And that isn’t a story, it’s just a sad truth: like, who doesn’t have a story to tell, how boring is that?" Big lie, she was a bastard and of royal blood and she could do magic and is stuck in a land without magic. Hey, I gotta go and try to get some food. It was fun talking to you, Ethan, I haven’t talked to someone in a while."
"Nice to talk to ya too, Rose. Call me up if you ever wanna chat again. I'm a busy guy, but I'm sure I can multitask or something. Seeya!"

"No. I meant to be here…" She crossed her arms. "Every story should have raisins." She sighed and shook her head. "I actually need a new cage for my hedgehog…" She removed the flap from her shoulder bag to pull him out. "His name is Wicket… and his cage is broken… it’s a long story, but I need a cage that contains zero metal. Plastic and wood are find, but no metal…"
Ethan immediately brightens at the sight of the hedgehog. Wicket quickly brings back memories of his own team back in Johto -- he really needs to get home. A smile on his face, he nods in response. "Sure. I can find you what you need. Come with me, and I'll show you." He walks out from behind the counter, taking two steps in a direction towards the back of the store and then waits for her to follow.
"Sure, Rose is fine, must people call me Rose anyway. And I’m not new, I just don’t have a last name, we don’t have those where I come from: at least not many people have them. I gave myself one though. And who says I have a story, what if I don’t have anything except a name and made up surname?"
"Only certain people have 'em where I'm from, either. If you're a professor or something, you usually have a million names, but if you're just a protagonist or recurring NPC or something then you've got one name. Or a bunch of first names that you can alternate between. And hey, that's an interesting story in itself."
“Huh. I’m assuming I did.
Ethan, was it? This certainly doesn’t sound like the mayor’s office…
I didn’t know Storybrooke even had a taxidermy.”
"Oh! Uh, sorry, sir; yeah, this is Ethan. I don't think Storybrooke does have a taxidermy. I totally thought this was gonna be my friend or my mom calling, so sorry -- uhm. Hang on, I think I can find the mayor's number. Get a pad and pen ready, yeah? I just need to hunt down the phone book real quick."
Raisin Shortage || Ethan & Rye
Rye’s eyes widened as she frantically searched the shelf of the store. “Are you kidding me? How can a store not sell raisins?!” She threw her hands up in annoyance. “Ridiculous.”
"...I think you mighta walked into the wrong store," the boy says calmly, gently weaving his fingers together and resting his hands on the counter. "I mean, I did convince boss-woman to install a shelf of snacks, but this is still a pet store." Ethan tilts his head to look at her curiously. "Can I help you? In a pet-related way? Or directions-to-the-nearest-store kind of way?"
"It’s good that you at least know that you sounded like a serial killer looking for a potential victim. And it’s good that you don’t want to kill people, that’s very good." She grew silent for a while, "I’m someone you won’t find in the phone book. Name’s Rose Red. Like that’s my full first name, Red ain’t my last name. I don’t even have a real last name."
"Well, Rose Red, now that we're acquainted, can I call you Rose? I've already got a Red in my roster and it'd get confusing after a while. I'm pretty sure he wouldn't wanna be called Rose, anyway. So, uh, stranger, hear me out. Are ya new, and that's why you don't have a last name? Or are you just kinda lingering without a family? What's your story?"
"It’s not too bad. Except the unintentional portal jumping."
"That’s not weird."
"Unintentional portal-jumping. Boy, can I relate. It's usually entering cities that I didn't mean to enter, but it's irritating to get back."
"Glad you don't think so. I think it's pretty weird. I bet the others from video games think it is too."
"Hello to you too, I guess. You ain’t a creepy serial killer, right? Because despite how much i like to get in trouble, I love my life a little too much to interact with serial killers."
"I mean, I get that maybe the taxidermy greeting might sound reminiscient of a serial killer, but I don't have time to kill anyone, nor do I want to. Like I said, name's Ethan. Ethan Barter. You can find my mom and I in the phone book. Who are you?"
