When you cut off a crazy guy on the phone
We are almost so desperate to fill our unpaid intern position that we’ll pay you to take it.
Full job posting here.
btw, any tips to survive on this course? well, tbh i only took this course to avenge my old 12-year old self to that journalism teacher who said i can't write LOL but as i learned new stuff, i also realized that this course is important because it allows us to ~somehow~ help people get their shit together. idk about you but hey, we all have our fair share of misery.
For the record: This blog is satire. We like our jobs, that’s why we do them, despite the infuriating moments that we try to laugh about here.
Also, that journalism teacher sounds terrible. No 12-year-old can write. You gain a writing voice with age and experience.
Keep writing. And dammit, learn to code.
hi! i saw one of your posts with you not encouraging anyone to major in journalism for college. what makes you say so?
Journalism is a craft. You learn by doing it. Join your campus paper, apply for internships or pitch freelance stories to the local paper.
Major in something that interests you. When you get your journalism job, you’ll know something other than journalism.
Minor in journalism or learn skills that journalists need to have: multimedia skills, code and design.
My feeling when I talk to my editor
When I’m in a press conference surrounded by senior reporters
When I cover my first court assignment and see the murder suspect in person
When you’re out of story ideas and your editor is like
When you get first day advice from an editor
When you’re doing that story because everyone else is doing it
All your friends who went into tech
When you get called back on a job app, but they’re like
When you think about the direction of your career
When you think you can make it as a freelancer
When you finally learn to multitask
When you tell your parents you're going to grad school ... for journalism
