It was a strange feeling to be standing in front of the stage instead of on it. But as Marie saw it, she'd had a good run of playing leading parts. Sure there had been the odd occasion where she had been relegated to bit parts or the ensemble over the past few years, but for the most part, she had been either centre stage or just off it. It was time for someone else to have a turn, she figured.

Plus, she was loving the chance to direct. How many times had she stood in the wings or on stage resisting the urge to roll her eyes at some note or complaint from the director? Too many times, at least since Simba had left Swynlake. It was a nice feeling to be the one in charge for once.

Rehearsals were about to start for the day, but there were still a few of her actors yet to arrive. When Marie spotted Joy she smiled, giving her a little wave before she headed over. "Hey," She smiled, "We're still waiting for a few stragglers, but hopefully won't be too long."

Joy was thrilled to be the lead in the play! It was absolutely crazy! And Marie was doing such a great job as the director, Joy was having a really nice time with the whole thing.

She needed something like this.

"I hope not either, but I mean, I've not got other plans today. I don't mind either way. Do you have much else going on today? Though yeah, quite rude if people take forever."

Ooh, Destiny really did love lemon bars. They were perfect for this kind of weather. They were also perfect for laying around in bed in this kind of weather--where she desperately wanted to be outside. The tart treat would be the perfect amount of sweet and bright. Just like Joy.

"I'm okay," Destiny said. "My head hurts a lot." And not just because of the large, stitched up cut on her forehead. "I have a concussion. And a sprained wrist. Besides that...I'm fine. Just a little banged up. It definitely could have been worse."

"I'm so glad you're on the mend, you'll be good as new in no time!" Joy said. "Then we can like, do something super fun to celebrate! Something you're not allowed to do while resting."

Like, an amusement park! Or throwing ass at the club!

"I've never had a concussion before, that must be annoying. Did they estimate when symptoms should ease up for you?"

Joy had asked Gem over for lunch and tea because she just wanted to see him. She missed him the most she thought, out of everyone she didn't live with anymore.

"What tea do you want?" Joy asked from the kitchen. "I've got all kinds!"

"Oh no now why would I think it was weird!" Boomer loved an old catch up no matter who it was. Plus this was Joy! They had spent how many years together in school? No way he could keep count..but it was probably all of them.

With a small tip of his hat he did a playful bow. "Well how did I get so lucky that Joy Mohanty was thinking of little old me!" It was more of a playful rhetorical of course. Boomer was not the type to beg for compliments.

Leading her down the gravel drive Boomer nodded a big yes. "Been crazy busy. I am sure you saw all that business with Chief. Luckily we got him taken care or. Though with that..." He waved to the whole ranch and rolling hills before them. "I have to play foreman and head the ranch...along with my split shifts down at the station."

His smile grew - "So yeah sister you could say I am busy. What about you? Summer break time yeah?"

"Yeah! Summer break, which means a few education conferences but other than that I'm just kind of chilling around. I thought about getting a summer job for some extra money." Joy said, before making a face. "But I don't need it that badly, so I might just enjoy my rent money for a while."

She's been having a great time making her apartment hers!

"I moved out of my parents' a few months ago, Frankie and I've got our own place!"

Delilah was busy, yes, which was why it had been so much easier to see her siblings when all of them lived at the farm house. She would go over for sunday lunch or stop by in the evenings for dinner, and everyone would be right there, waiting for her.

It was strange to have people all over the place, now. Gem moved out, Frankie and Joy too. But Delilah wasn't against going to visit them - it was just finding the time.

It was a rare day off without Sienna, though, so Delilah had made the short-ish journey over to Joy's now not-so-new apartment, running her hand over the fabric of the couch as she sat down on it. "It's cute!" She agreed. "You'll have to keep it forever now, though. Five flights of stairs is way too many to be lugging another couch up here."

"Right? And I'll have to live here forever. Or at least until I can afford to pay movers to move my furniture to a new place." Joy mused as she moved about the kitchen to get everything Delilah needed for tea.

Bringing it over to the couch, Joy added, "It's kind of nice living with Frankie. It doesn't fully feel like I'm away from everyone, and he lets me go crazy decorating the place. He's not the least bit embarrassed about the girly living room."

"I don't care if you have a friend you're looking for or what not. You're invading my space!" Cruella snapped. And really, in what world was hopping around and waving at all useful in getting someone's attention if they were further away.

"Or...here's an idea darling, you walk over toward them since you've already seen your friend." That would be much better than bothering Cruella with nonsense.

"I'm not invading your space, I'm standing a respectful distance apart from you in a public place. We always sit around here, he'll-- ah, see, there! Eye contact." Joy waved again and her friend spotted her. "I'll be sat down in no time, you'll have your sun back."

Especially considering the lady had a chair and Joy and her friend just used towels to sit on.

Unfortunately for this lady, Joy was impervious to...whatever this was.

"Odd," Daehínen noted aloud. "Would it not be more effective to be supportive of those who are in charge of giving one's child their education? As well as looking after them for a significant amount of time during the day? To what end does mistreating them do for said concerns?"

Educators and caretakers were highly respected and looked after in the Onyx Court– they were the ones that laid the foundations within the younger elves, who ensured they would be prepared for their lives and who regarded them. Though it might not have looked like it from an outsider's perspective, family was important in Wynter. And it had never solely been defined by blood. (Unless, of course, that blood was tainted.)

"You would think that, wouldn't you? But no. I dunno how it is in elf world, but in human world, people really like to think they're better than others. So that means exerting your power over people you think you can do so to. Parents can be nasty to teachers thinking they'll get their way." Joy explained. "Like if a student does poorly on an assignment and receives a bad mark, parents will come to the school and berate the teacher for doing their job, as if the teacher takes pleasure in giving a student a bad mark."

Joy sighed.

"Not me," she clarified. "Again, less about marks with the little ones and more about building foundations. Though I do have parents yelling at me for putting kids in time out for bad behavior. 'My son would never hit another child!' Well, ma'am, I physically saw it, what now?"

The Tipton had several conference spaces and a few meeting rooms. The conference spaces had hosted weddings before-- could even host them again, though since Aunt Daphne took over, none had been booked-- but June was pretty sure that space was way too big.

She clicked over to the meeting rooms instead. Was that too small, though?

If only this lady were interested in a summer thing. The pool space was much nicer.

"Well, we have these meeting spaces but... you could also maybe host it in our restaurant. There's a private room you can book there, but probably 30-max for that space," she mentioned. "Or you could just host it in the actual dining room and book several tables if you were interested in that."

"Oh, wait, the private dining room would probably work! And having a limit of like 30 people would be better for my wallet since I'm paying for it all." Joy said. "Versus catering for 50 plus. Like does she really want her whole uni cohort invited? Probably not."

This was working out perfectly!

"Yeah, what's the availability for that? And is there a fee to book it?" She could pay it today probably!

What Is This, Mail City? || Damijoy

Damian had not been getting his mail

He didn’t notice it at first. He figured since he’d moved countries, he wasn’t about to be getting anything interesting for a while. Just junk mail and what not. But then, there had been an important letter from the county that he was supposed to get, something about registering his new address.

It never arrived. Damian had to call the county and go over to Wiltshire in person to sign the forms. It had been really annoying.

He got some mail, sure, but there were definitely things falling through the cracks. Aside from that registration letter, nothing had been important enough for him toa actually march down to the post office and deal with it. So he pushed it from his mind …

Till his mail showed right up at his doorstep via dark-haired girl with an infectiously bright smile.

He had to blink a few times to adjust to the megawatt grin.

“Oh — yeah that’s me!” he said. “God, has my mail been ending up at your place?! Jeez — so sorry about that.”

"It's quite all right, I just feel bad it's taken me so long to collect it all and bring it to you!" Joy said. "I'm just glad I found you. And I got to meet a new neighbor!"

And he was handsome but that was besides the point.

"I'm Joy!" She said, offering her hand to shake. "And I'm so glad I don't have to knock on any more doors today. I was on a mission to find the mail's owner."

She was initially planning on inviting Destiny buuuut all things considered she needed to take it easy. So who better to invite than her new friend Gretchen?

He continued in the almost melodic rhythm up the stairs and around the bends of the landings, adjusting the height of his side of the sofa when it became relevant to do so in order to get it over the railing. Their footsteps echoed through the chamber, her voice the dominant noise as she answered.

Daehínen would have been satisfied with the first two words. He had not asked her why she found it fulfilling, just if she did or did not. She went into that detail anyway– and yet the more information she gave, the less he understood.

"Do you find that all humans in your job agree with those opinions?"

"Yes, I'd say. We find teaching to be very important and rewarding. We have to, it isn't an easy job. Not so much because of the kids though." Joy explained. "The parents can be difficult especially as the kids get older, so I'm kind of lucky I get kids so young. Parents aren't as concerned about their kids being the best of the best for uni admissions."

She was refreshing her dating app profiles: new pictures, new bios, new prompt answers, the whole shebang. Joy was determined to land promising dates this year!

Destiny was very bored.

Her life recently had been exciting and nonstop. She had been enjoying it, even if it made her tired.

But now, everything had ground to a halt. Slammed to a halt, really. Somersaulted into a halt like slamming on the breaks. It had felt like being airborne before crashing back to earth.

And she was bored, stuck in her room, with nothing to do. Her mother wouldn't even let her into the kitchen to bake. Saying she was too tired (she was) and too injured (she wasn't!).

When she heard another pair of footsteps following her mother's, she perked up, sitting up a bit more in her bed and putting her knitting aside. Her hair was a mess, but she briefly tried to smooth it out before whoever it was appeared.

Her eyes lit up with surprise when she heard the voice.

"Oh! Hi!" Destiny said, smiling. "Wow, thank you."

"You girls have fun. Don't get too overexcited, Destiny, you need to rest."

"Yes, Mother," Destiny said and waited for her steps to retreat before she turned to Joy again. "What kind of treats?"

"Lemon bars!" She sing-songed. "I got Arista's recipe so they should be really good."

Then, of course, Joy had to get the obvious out of the way.

“I’m getting better!” Holley said proudly, sitting up a little straighter. “I used to not be as good, but one of my dear friends who used to live around here was an Earth sorcereress and she helped me find my green thumb so to speak — she’s the one who inspired me to open up the community garden!”

She smiled fondly, making a mental note to text Aurora later.

“If you’re interested, I recommend starting with a lucky bamboo over a succulent — I definitely killed my first few succulents by over watering them.”

"That's so interesting, I know people say start with succulents because they don't need so much water, that's fascinating that they're not actually plants for actual beginners!" Joy said, genuinely interested in learning this, though she doubted she'd try to grow anything herself.

It was weird, having Delilah come over to her apartment. She was used to either living with her or Delilah being married and Joy going to visit her.

Had Delilah seen her apartment since it's been all put together? Probably not, she's so busy...

She was honestly surprised that Delilah had made time to come over for tea today, not because she didn't think Delilah cared to (she was always apologetic when saying no) but because she just had so much going on.

"Have you seen it since we went furniture-shopping? Look, I got a cute couch! It's pink! I made a guy that lives in the building carry it up the stairs with me. Five flights of stairs, it wouldn't fit in the elevator."

Late Night || Roy

He was not the genuine compliment type. Rob braved the night air with a deep breath of it. He’d been going on fifteen hours, what was another two or three?

“That’s kinda sad,” he remarked about the tentative sister. Never mind his own sister walking out as soon as she was able. “It’s a noble cause though. Tough, but admirable.” There he was talking about Delilah Mohanty as if she placed the stars above them.

“You’re a teacher, right? That’s gotta have its own struggles.” Rob tried to open the floor to Joy. He wasn’t quite enthusiastic to be here, but it was her night at least. He’d listen to her while they walked. Tomorrow there would be more important things to remember though.

"Struggles? Oh, well sometimes. Usually when a kid accidentally reveals some heartbreaking detail about their home life. It's mostly just really fun." Joy said. "I teach Reception, so it's the little kids and they're just so funny, no filter whatsoever."

She smiled.

"And it's really rewarding watching them grasp basic concepts of literacy and science."
