Boomer dusts his hands off, leans on the cooler, and Majdalā can't help but shake her head. She knew exactly why Miss Dottie Bergstrom was chatting his ear off 'bout missing those parties, but far be it from her to clue him in on it.

"Well, honey, 'm sure there was a real good reaaon," she says instead. "Every think yer momma mighta missed yah, too?" And for all Majdalā knew, she had.

While she'd never formally met Mrs. Winche, Maj had heard plenty about her.

Opening her mouth to say just that she was, Boomer cuts her off, scratching at his jaw, telling her how actually he should be the one to pull. She just laughs, shakes her head, and says "alright."

And, when he needs her to push, she does.

The cooler made its way off the back of the old red truck bed. There was a loud creek on the back wheel well as the weight of the small box fridge released its weight. Boomer was good with the balance though. Directing the large red strap that held the cooler onto his chest then squatted it onto the dolly that Maj so properly held.

With a jerk of the strap he let it loose of the cooler and threw them over the top of it. "Phew! Not bad aye!"

His smile lit up his face as he looked to Maj by the back of the dolly. "You did me good!"

Holding out a hand he went to grab the apparatus and lean it back to move the cooler to the stand. "Grab that produce basket will ya!" He winked.

"I know my mums missed me but what am I supposed to do aye? Just tell the station I've got a garden party to attend with the old hens?!"

Tell Me Somethin’ Good || Fox Fox Boom

Tod watched as Boomer made himself comfortable. Stretching his long legs out, slopping down his broad shoulders. He was a big bloke. Tod didn't remember him being quite that big. Then again, they'd really seen each other close up nearly a decade ago.

Maybe Boomer'd been at his granny's funeral but to be honest, Tod tried not to think about that day.

"Ah, right," Tod frowned at the mention of Chief. "How is he doing?"

The man was a dick. And Tod was still baffled that he'd decided to take whatever anger out on Tod, but, at the same time: Tod wasn't the kind to judge. Not really. Chief was doing his best. Like they all were.

Boomer knew Tod probably didn't give a damn about Chief. Not that he wasn't a good man and didn't care about the well being of others. Boomer just knew that Chief had tried to drag Tod and his family through the dirt. Family squabbles aside - it was getting a bit out of hand there at the end.

"Well lets just say he is where he needs to be." Boomer gave a thin lipped smile before taking another bit of his lime jello cup. "I should have stepped in sooner but its an odd line to cross when your family is so close..." He stopped and just shook his head again. "Theres no need to dwell on all that. Yeah?"

Truthfully Boomer couldn't do much more with the Chief drama. Plus chatting about it wasn't going to do a damn thing now.

"I never reached out about your Grandmum." Boomer always forgot such formalities. "A beautiful service and all. Wonderful woman." His eyes looked over to Tod and they squinted in kindness. "Are you digging your roots in then? No better time than now. Hell I am sure the team here loves having you around. Heard nothing by praise mate."

"I'm just glad you didn't think it was weird when I randomly texted you," Joy said, chuckling nervously. "I was just thinking about you and wanted to know if you were doing well."

Glad the answer seemed to be a yes, and that they had free time to properly catch up.

"Have you been very busy lately? I can imagine you have been."

"Oh no now why would I think it was weird!" Boomer loved an old catch up no matter who it was. Plus this was Joy! They had spent how many years together in school? No way he could keep count..but it was probably all of them.

With a small tip of his hat he did a playful bow. "Well how did I get so lucky that Joy Mohanty was thinking of little old me!" It was more of a playful rhetorical of course. Boomer was not the type to beg for compliments.

Leading her down the gravel drive Boomer nodded a big yes. "Been crazy busy. I am sure you saw all that business with Chief. Luckily we got him taken care or. Though with that..." He waved to the whole ranch and rolling hills before them. "I have to play foreman and head the ranch...along with my split shifts down at the station."

His smile grew - "So yeah sister you could say I am busy. What about you? Summer break time yeah?"

Oh Toby, or not To Be - Open

"There's following your nose and there's running off and pestering people," Basil added. There was an important distinction, especially if people did not actually want the dog sniffing around them.

"Good to know the place is being looked after," Basil added warmly as he could, which was disarmingly warmly. He had heard a little of what had happened with the chap who farmed there previously, but it had barely retained his interest. Nothing of the criminal nature that interested him; the sort of mundane tragedy that so often befell people and did not need a detective to help. The sort of life that happened while Basil was busy chasing puzzles.

"Basil," he introduced himself in return. "And this, of course is Toby," he added with a fond look down at the dog. "Is Boomer a nickname?" Presumably it wasn't short for anything...

"Just cuttin your boy some slack!" Boomer smiled. "Ya caught me!" It was easy to give a little longer leash to some animals. Boomer was guilty of that more times than not.

"I mean yeah its the least I can do. Plus I am pretty sure I am legally responsible for it." There was a small shrug that followed as Boomer laughed and tried to make light of the Slade family issues. It was not lost on him that the town knew of them and what Chief had just done. "Not good with legal documents now but I am proud to serve if nothin' else." A hearty laugh followed.

"Good to meet ya though Basil!" He looked back to the dog. "You as well Toby."

Shaking his head he shrugged. "Can't say its much of a nickname no! My mama said I came into the world with a pow and well...Boomer was what went on that birth certificate and of course I just ran with it!" Was it a normal name? No but Boomer didn't care much. "I never have to worry about blending in with a group of Johns or Carls!"

Tell Me Somethin’ Good || Fox Fox Boom

Tod was at a table all his own because he was broadcasting that he wanted to be alone.

It was a quiet sort of broadcast, but one the whole hospital was familiar with. Everyone had their bad shifts, heartbreaking patients, and days where the job crushed and they needed time by themselves.

Today, Tod was thinking about how he was still here. House no closer to being sold, no good time, yet, to snip the threads that would allow him to let go of whatever tether kept him here in Sywnlake.

He just couldn't, really, figure out what those motives were.

Tod was in deep, brooding thoughts, when someone spoke and he looked up, blinking.

And then the person plopped down into the chair across from him, practically shaking the whole table.

Tod's brow furrowed for a moment before he was able to place the face. Boomer, from Hidden Canyon. Of course, another person who thought that they knew him.

He sighed quietly out of his nose before slapping on a charming, easy sort of smile. "Hey, Boomer. Been a while."

It had been a while but Boomer never forgot a face. Nope. Never forgot a pal. Of course he picked up on the light sigh - but hell they were at both of their places of employment....or adjacent places of employment. The hospital was a stressful place after all.

"Yeah you don't say!" Boomer got comfortable in his eat and took a large giggly scoop of jello before popping it in is mouth. The shit was delicious.

"Feel like we have been two ships passing in the night or whatever thats saying is yeah?" Boomer slouched some more in his chair. No reason to stay proper. "You been alright though? I swear I got back from my er...trip." It was a trip of sorts. "Then just jumped right back in at the station."

There was the whole thing about Chief and the property though. Boomer had it all signed over to him - it also wasn't lost on him the meetings that transpired between him and Tod.

"Been throw through the wringer myself. Now that Chief is off on his way."

Hidden Canyon had been a staple in Swynlake for decades, long before Hugo and his pill of a father had taken the place over. Their produce had been a selling star, the kind that gave an income in harsh times.

But, even good things came to a dry patch, and that dry patch had gone hand in hand with Hugo Slade's own. With Hue gone, getting the help he needed, the place felt....different. Not bad, just...off.

And if Majdalā could feel it, she knew someone like Boomer could, too.

Which was why she was here, decked out in her best work jeans, some scuffed up work boots, and a ball cap and tee, hair pulled back through the back in a tail.

When she rounds out to the street with the stalls, Maj spins Boomer in the back of his rickety old truck, trying to lug that cooler down off the back all by his lonesome.

Maj shakes her head, muttering about stubborn men as she picks up her pace. "Got stuck in th' beginnin' crowds, Boom. Hold yah horses, darlin'."

Swerving around to the side, toward the dolly he pointed to, Maj maneuvers it into place at the end of thr tail gate, steadying it before she rounds over to the side to help guide the damn thing to the ground.

"How long yah been here, anyhow?"

"I'll hold as long as I know you're comin!" Boomer dusted his hands off on his jeans before leaning some weight on the giant cooler.

"I havn't been round too long. Had to circle about for some parking." Nodding over to a crowd of older women clustered by the potted plants for sale. "Dottie Bergstrom over there was chatting my ear off. Somthin' about how I missed my mamas last garden party."

Boomer shook his head and smiled. Duty called most of the time but he had been a staple at his mother events since he was a young boy so no doubt his friends missed him.

"You ready for me to push though darlin. Its not too heavy. Or wait." Boomer scratched his jawline. "I think I better pull you just hold tight!"

Hopping down off the back of the farm truck he wrapped the straps around his hands and pulled. "Hold tight!"

Boomer was thrilled when he received a little text from THE Joy Mohanty. It had felt like ages since they had caught up. Really his work and all of the Chief drama had gotten the best of him. Every social outing and friendship had taken the back burner. It had been longer than that though since he say Miss Joy. Probably before he headed off on mission? Either way she was headin over to the ranch and they were about to make up for lost time.

Throwing Houdini back in the goat pen he heard the dogs barking as someone walked up the gravel driveway. Pointing to the goat he shot some threats at it under his breath. Something about staying in the damn pen. Only to switch on a smile and offer a wave to his old friend.

"Well look what the wind dragged in! Is that Joy Mohanty?! Getcha self over here girl!"

Joy had this bad habit of texting people when they came up on her social media feed if they hadn't spoken in a while.

Usually she got a polite but awkward text back. Or no reply. Which was fine! Maybe she fell out of touch with these people for a reason, right? But when Boomer actually replied to her text, carried on conversation, and invited her over, Joy took it as proof that her habit of reaching out to old friends was not so bad after all.

And she was certainly not thinking about how she used to have a crush on him, nope.

"Hey!" She said, beaming at him. "It's so good to see you!"

Boomer felt like he had known Miss Joy his whole life. Maybe he had...give or take a few years off the top there. Hell it was hard for him to even keep track of how old he was these days.

"I'd say its felt like forever since i've seen ya but that might out me on being so antisocial!" Boomer knew he was gone for some RAS business which was not everyones business. Still felt like he missed out on so many things in town - plus if it wasn't RAS it was his double on double schedule.

Wrapping his big arms around here Boomer lifted Joy up in a big old hug - spinning her around.

"Good to see ya! Good to see ya!"

"It's bad manners is what it is," Basil continued, chiding Toby lightly (who wasn't paying the blindest bit of attention to that, given he was now getting scratched behind his ears, and his tail thumped steadily against Basil's leg. He liked this fellow, Toby had decided!).

The second he got a chance to take a better look though, Basil could hardly be surprised in Toby's behaviour - the man, with his slightly muddy boots and his well-worn trousers that spoke of an outdoor career, rough callused hands that corroborated it and the sort of tan of a man who spent most time outside - was no doubt covered in interesting smells. And then he pulled out a huge back of meat to boot!

"Although I'm starting to see what tempted him so much," Basil added with a small laugh. "You're uh, not the usual guy who ran the stall, right?" He asked, with a small smile.

"Nothin wrong with a pup followin his nose now!" Boomer smiled fondly at Toby. "You've got a keen eye on ya though." The man looked familiar - Boomer had seen them around a time or two but they may have never really crossed paths. Hard to do when life has ya on a short leash with all the responsibilities.

"I've been a life long from of the fella who ran this and his family but..." Boomer let out a huff through his nose. "I decided to cover down for the lot while they handle their personal business." He shrugged his shoulder trying to give some more attention to the hound. Reaching again to pet at the top of his ears as he balanced the wrapped meat on his shoulder. "Figured the town was missin out on some fresh cuts and produce."

Boomers smile grew a bit bigger as he looked over to Basil again. "Names Boomer. I must admit you look familiar but I've been quite the stooge not introducin' myself."

There was something about the lime jello in the Hospital caf that really got Boomer going. Maybe it was the dollop of whipped cream the old lady behind the dessert bar added to his every time he swung through.

After checking on their last elderly house call turned ER run Boomer knew he needed to grab himself that jello. Checking on past calls was one of his favorite things to do. Everyone round here was a familiar face and it meant a lot when someone came to check on you.

Oh and the jello.

Lime treat in hand Boomer weaved through the cafeteria about to head out to his ring. Only to see the good Doctor Mitchell at a table all his own. “Aye Tod!” Boomer waved taking a big spoonful of his goodie. “How ya been man?!” Pulling at the chair at the other man’s table he plopped down. “Was just checking on Ms. Roth. The bloody garden hose tripped her again.”

The Hidden Canyon Ranch stand sat vacant since last season. Not a single bit of produce or fresh cuts made it to the tables. Boomer never pushed it - the last few months had been tense and he truly didn't want to make matters worse. The instinct to just do it himself of course hit him like a wind chime but that would have been another thing on his list of responsibilities.

Not that it was any different now - but with all the legal documents settled and he knew his buddy was in good hands; Boomer wanted to get things back on track. That meant getting Hidden Canyon Ranch back in the mix of things and now that it was summer time - the Farmers Market was a top priority.

The bed of the farm truck was stacked as high as it would go. Baskets of cabbages and lettuce. Bunches of zucchini and tomatoes stacked high in crates. Then freshly wrapped packages of this seasons freshest beef. Along with the giant cooler they always kept things in. The old truck bed creaked as he dropped down the tailgate. Hopping up he grunted as he pulled at the cooler pulling it to the edge. It wasn't too heavy - but he didn't want to drop it off the back without some help.\

Lucky for him he called one of the best. Sweet sweet Maj - always there to help him when he needed it. Wiping some sweat from his brow he looked down the side walk and saw her - "Aye! Took ya long enough!" Boomer joked. "You mind grabbing that dolly and bring it right there." His large hand pointed just behind the truck.
