The new BMW M6 GT3
For this latest installment of Ferrari Friday, we have the awesome 512M from 1970 that I shot at Silverstone Classic last summer. The ‘M’ stands for ‘modificata‘, since the bodywork was changed from the earlier ‘S’ designated cars that started the 1970 season. A rule change for 1972 that limited engine size to 3l meant that Ferrari didn’t develop this car for 1971, ending the era of 5.0 V12s. What a sound it made!

The imminent Silverstone Classic has got me all excited about Group C again…..I can’t lie, this is only my 2nd favourite Group C car (after the amazing Jaguar XJR14) but it’s still an incredible piece of engineering and design. The number 31 car here was campaigned by Michael Schumacher in four rounds of the 1990 World Sportscar Championship (the car was driven by Karl Wendlinger and Heinz-Harald Frentzen in the other races), partnered by veteran Jochen Mass. Schumacher’s first race in the C11 was over before it started, when his qualifying time was disallowed for an infraction, but the other three races went differently; Schumi and Mass brought the car home twice in second place (finishing on the lead lap) and finished the season finale in Mexico with a win.
