My experience during the Covid19 lockdown has given me a new perspective on my life as an artist, a teacher and a coach working from home for 30 years. This 7-minute piece tells the story with my personal narrative and a series of mobile digital images I made (mostly during the lockdown) using my iPhone and iPad.
I am anything but a video shooter or producer. So many pieces to juggle along with time and space….Video is way too much like math for me. I love to watch it and I marvel at how people make it. I make still images. But I finished this yesterday and I’m really happy to have learned what I learned putting this together. I hope you enjoy it.
I made this piece at the invitation of Joanne Carter, The App Whisperer. You can view it on her site here as well: https://theappwhisperer.com/2020/05/trueview-video-how-has-covid-19-affected-your-mobile-art-with-meri-walker-iphoneartgirl-from-oregon-united-states/
Drawing Music: Kandinsky Online, 1 and 2. © 2020, Meri Aaron Walker, iPhoneArtGirl. Talent, OR. All rights reserved.
IColorama, Instagram
I just had a delightful hour online with the London Drawing Group, exploring the artwork and the thinking of Kandinsky and the music that inspired him. I love the creativity that is showing up amongst artists who want to work and want to teach even in the middle of this pandemic.
I’m guessing that most people were using traditional media to draw and paint, but I used iColorama on my iPad. I learned a lot about Kandinsky and his way of thinking about mark making. Having grown up with a big print of his over the mantle in my home, I’ve always wondered about him but never explored his work this way.
As the U.S. approaches a grim milestone in the outbreak, The New York Times gathered names of the dead and memories of their lives from obituaries across the country.
Experience this on a COMPUTER and share it with family and friends. We must grieve to be able to move forward together. We can’t be deprived of grief or we’ll stay asleep…..suspended in the nightmare of ‘rumptime…

We do need to bring it under control asap
My heart warmed quickly this morning when I saw this Facebook post from Susan Sauer Gingras. This time last year I had the privilege of working for a whole week with Susan and this group of mobile artists on Cape Cod.
Watching them access new levels of creativity and skill while developing a deep friendship with each other was a richly rewarding experience for me as a teacher.
I’m not much good at marketing for myself. Everyone tells me that. And I guess they’re right.
While people have been grounded at home, I’ve been getting a lot of private messages from folks here and in Instagram asking if I have an online class. And the answer is yes. I have had a six week coaching program that happens fully online for the last five years. At this point I think I’ve worked with about 40 people all online.
I use my zoom room to meet real time with people privately and I can do everything online that I can do in a physical room. Demos, troubleshooting, answer personal questions and walk individual artists through a curriculum I developed out of my experience these last 11 years.
If staying home now gives you the time to work intensively on new skills and creative development, you can use my contact form at Http://iPhoneArtGirl.com/want_more to tell me what kind of support you’re dreaming you could get.
I offer everyone a 20 minute phone conversation with me to explore our fit.
