Mr. Parsons had walked in a couple weeks later to the office, calling Dani in to his office the second she got there. “Miss Marino, I hate to have to do this, but I’ve noticed many times that you’re on your phone while out on the floor or in the backroom, I’m going to have to give you a write up...” he said a bit regrettably. Javier was about to walk in when he saw Dani in the boss’s office, not sure what was going on and just coming in to grab the keys for the back room to accept a new load of product.

“Oh cool” she said, counting the money and texting at the same time. She had become very good at multitasking since her grandmother’s alzheimer had progressed. “Um…yea, probably party too” she answered nonchalantly knowing good and well she’d just be spending another weekend trying to keep her mother’s anxiety at bay as well as looking after her grandmother. “Got the same as you for this stack” she said handing it back to him.

“Cool” he said as he just took the stack back that she had counted, seeing that she was on her phone but not seeing her screen. “You should keep the texting to a minimum you know…” he suggested before going back to his own side of the room, putting all the stacks he had counted back and the cash in their pick-up bag.

She didn’t mind having busy work because it meant she had more time to talk to her cyberfriend. “Have any plans for the weekend?” she asked, breaking the silence, trying to make it less awkward in the room.

She took a bit to count the money as she got interrupting messages by J, which she didn’t mind one bit. Eventually she got through with it and was happy she was because she didn’t want Javier getting on her case, especially because she didn’t want her conversation to be cut short. “Yupp, here you go. Got the same count as you” the girl answered, handing him the stack of cash. Dani went back to messaging her mystery friend as soon as she could.

“Great thanks. Do this one too” he asked her to do another one, handing it over since he just wanted to finish a little quicker to get back to his conversation. “Promise it’s the last one” he told her before turning back to the desk  and his phone.
