“To fall in love does not mean to love. One can fall in love and still hate.”
— Fyodor Dostoyevsky, The Brothers Karamazov
“It is seldom, that liberty of any kind is lost all at once. Slavery has so frightful an aspect to men accustomed to freedom, that it must steal upon them by degrees, and must disguise itself in a thousand shapes, in order to be received.”
— David Hume
We are never so vulnerable as when we love.
Freud (via onlinecounsellingcollege)
If we take eternity to mean not infinite temporal duration but timelessness, then eternal life belongs to those who live in the present.
Ludwig Wittgenstein (via whyallcaps)
Erin just referenced utilitarianism in conversation!!
Dog Philosophy
I am accustomed to sleep and in my dreams to imagine the same things that lunatics imagine when awake.
Rene Descartes (via philosophy-quotes)
I don’t want to sound pompous, but the European idea is our best hope of avoiding narrow national self-interest. That doesn’t sound pompous, Minister. Merely inaccurate.
Political philosophy
Thomas Aquinas, studied the works of Ibn Rushd, developed his ideas based on them and then insulted him and his great mind. John Stuart Mill, looted logic off the Muslim Usoolis then found no way to feel better about himself but to insult the Prophet of the Usoolis Muhammad (sawa) so that he isn’t associated with them and no one says he took his ideas off them. The great Rene Descartes looted Abu Hamed Al Ghazzalis ideas. A copy of Al Ghazzali’s Munqith minal Dhalala which Descartes studied was found with Descartes’s handwriting on it where he would underline certain paragraphs and write ‘use this is Discourse On The Method’. As for his cogito, it was mentioned by both St Augustine and even before him by Ibn Sina in Al Shifa’ where he actually disproved it. Its always like this, the West loot Eastern ideas and then picture Easterners as lesser people who have no intellectual heritage.

You can change the direction this train is moving just by thinking about it.
No. I did not need this shit right now. It’s too early in the morning and I am too high. I’m crying now.
Better than the duck-rabbit...
Existentialism isn’t so atheistic that it wears itself out showing that God doesn’t exist. Rather, it declares that even if God did exist, that would change nothing.
Jean-Paul Sartre / 1905-1980 / Existentialism and Humanism /1945 (via cloudyblueyes)
Why are there beings at all, instead of Nothing?
Martin Heidegger (via philosophy-quotes)
knowledge is knowing that a tomato is a fruit
wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad
That was deep
philosophy is wondering if that means ketchup is a smoothie
That was deeper.
