Impending Indefinite Hiatus
This is long overdue, but if you’ve been following the site for a while, you’ve probably seen it coming. I’ve been running JrockJoy for a good five years or so now, and after much internal debate, I’ve decided to take an indefinite break from the site.
It’s not often that I get personal, but for a moment, please bear with me. While “JrockJoy” is a pretty corny sounding name, the time that I got into visual kei was during a period where I was bedridden and unable to do much for myself. “Joy” differs from “happiness” in that it allows you to see the good things in life even though your circumstances aren’t favorable. In this case, I found several bands (as you may have noticed GOTCHAROCKA is a favorite of mine) that made my day so much brighter and better, and I saw music videos with moments that I wanted to capture and view again and again. As a result, I came up with “JrockJoy” as an alliterated combination of Japanese rock and the joy it brought me with a focus on GIFs from music videos.
Of course, things have now changed and time has moved on. It appears that I’m cycling back through moments in my life, but this time things are different because I’m different. I still have some favorite bands out there, but I’ve come to the decision that this season is at its end.
I’m currently using Adobe Photoshop to create my GIFs and have had a free version through my school. However, I just graduated with my MA and I will not be continuing with the monthly subscription. Once my access is discontinued, I will stop posting. I will leave my current posts available for viewing, so the site will not be removed (at least by me.) I will, however, post once more to inform everyone when the subscription has expired.
