Hate is not a word that I use lightly. It’s a strong word, one that should only be used when discussing the most vile and horrible things. For example, I hate beans. All kinds. They’re gross and they stink. I hate beets. They taste like dirt and shame. And above all things, I HATE THE EAGLES. The Eagles are gross, and they stink, and they sound like dirt and shame (probably taste like it, too).

But every once in a while, we must all do things that we don’t want to do. If my grandmother makes beans with dinner, I’ll choke down a forkful so as not to be rude. I went to a fancy dinner once and was served golden beets with one of the courses. I took a bite, thought, “Yes, these are exactly as awful as I remember,” but ate the rest of the course. And because all artists must suffer for their art, I decided to subject myself to an unspeakable horror: I forced myself to watch the 186-minute History of the Eagles documentary in one sitting, and just for the sole purpose of being able to make fun of it later.
