i do think part of why i love ryland grace (and phm as a whole, of course) is because of how desperately he wants to live. he fights back and tries so hard to not go on the mission. and despite all the trials and tribulations while hes literally sent on a suicide mission, sentenced to death, he fights tooth and nail for that sliver of a chance to live- and in the end, he does get to live a happy life on erid. and him being able to do this makes him v inspiring to me/fills me with hope that no matter how far the odds are stacked against you there is always a chance to live :)
