Gustave meets The Curator.

The Curator meets an imitation.

I had so much fun working on this, rendering the curator was sooooo fun he's so texture. Also can someone please get Maelle some healing tints she's got one hell of a concussion.

Time for some fancy shmancy thoughts!

Verso leading Gustave to a manor door somewhere near Spring Meadows, it's a tense walk. They get there, and Gustave gets to see the manor he has memories of with his own eyes, only to be immediately manhandled by the father of his creator.

Gustave realises he's staring at the void face of basically a god and the man who will end this world. And I think there's just a moment before he started talking where he thought that he was about to be swatted like a fly because of who he looks like.

Meanwhile, Renoir.

This man who dived into his dead son's only canvas to get his wife out and grieve in a healthier way than escapism, has been locked under the monolith you are keeping your wife locked ontop of for sixty seven fucking years. Aline's creations are extraordinary and heartbreaking and insulting. Seeing an imitation of Gustave being lead by an imitation of Verso felt like a slap in the face. He was so angry.

It was only after seeing Maelle that he realized, no, Aline didn't create Gustave, Clea did and that's so much worse because that means he doesn't exist as an independent creation, this imitation is a tool to spite. Things must be getting desperate outside the Canvas if this is the extent she would go to.

Almost immediately after putting Maelle down on a bed, Gustave has to find a corner to have a minor panic attack. Renoir watches him from a distance as he fights with his complex feelings about seeing his youngest for the first time in so long, and the implications of what his eldest did. He'd feel pity for Gustave, if he was anything more than a poor imitation made of Clea's rage.

A heartfelt reunion with a bit of silliness

Their lips met, tentative at first—a question asked and answered in the soft press of lips. Then Verso made a sound, low and desperate, and the kiss deepened into something harsher. Needier. Verso's hands were everywhere—cradling Gustave's face, sliding in his hair, tracing the line of his jaw with reverent fingers. He kissed like he was trying to memorize the shape of Gustave's mouth, like he was pouring years of want into this single moment.
