I'll never get tired of this stunning view of Madrid from Alcala, even better from the top of Circulo de Bellas Artes. Standing over the skyline, the Telefonica building, the first skycraper of Europe. #madrid #spain #circulodebellasartes #alcala #granvia #metropolis #metropolisbuilding

Barneys New York presents: Givenchy | Spring 2013, a film by Gordon Von Steiner
Saturday afternoon in London.
Waiting for the car to return to London. Three days of lovely food, a massage and facial, a colon hydrotherapy treatment, thalassotherapy, aqua fit, aqua mitt, aqua circuit, yoga, tai chi, hot tub, lots of detoxing drinks, sun, walks, runs, great company and peace. Ready to come back any time!
Poached Eggs with Grilled Tomato. Champneys Tring, Hertforsdhire. Spending three days at Champneys doing nothing else than working out, being pampered and eating healthily, I can now say that I happily will return anytime. The original Georgian building once belonged to the Rothschild Family and has been a Health spa of some kind since 1925, when Stanley Lief first opened as a 'Nature Cure Resort'. It now offers 92 rooms and 170 acres of gardens to enjoy along thalassotherapy, kriotherapy, acupuncture, massage and other variety of treatments. The food is excellent and very fresh. Buffet is provided for breakfast and lunch and a la carte menu is available for dinner. I only found one tiny complaint: eggs of any kind are not part of the breakfast buffet, although can be ordered for a small charge. I don't find fried eggs drying up on a bain marie that appealing, but I do enjoy a tray full of soft scrambled eggs to scoop from a breakfast menu. Instead I had to order the dish from the picture, poached eggs with grilled tomato on brown toast. I am not a big fan of grilled tomato unless it is very well grilled and its sweetness becomes caramelised. This tomato was well done and plum (it would have been nicer cherry or beef, but not bad). The eggs on the other hand were a bit disappointing. The waitress offered them 'hard or soft', which I always find strange as I understand they should be neither but just right in the middle. To avoid being served two hard boiled eggs, I asked for 'soft please'. They came looking marvellous but I soon realised they were overdone to the point that the yolk of one of them was already turning a light shade of yellow with not a trace of runny, orange creaminess. The other egg showed a feint of liquid glow but failed to satisfy my expectations. Next time I will be more specific or I will try a nice looking white egg omelette with spinach that I spotted on a table near by. On the bright side, this means thatI have an excuse to return to Champneys soon.

Swimming, running, yoga, gym and now time to relax.
Relaxing times at Champneys Tring. Looking forward to explore the grounds tomorrow morning.
Stour Space, Hackney Wick E9 London. I have visited this cafe by the canal before and I wasn’t impressed with the service: slow, pretentious (in a Hackney Wick-Dalston-Hoxton-East London- I’m too cool to give a proper service and you should worship me because I’m an artist kind of way) and too busy on a Sunday morning. I decided to give a try on a much quieter Saturday afternoon and sat right by the water witnessing how the Olympic Park transform into the biggest public space to open in this country by this time next year. I was gladly blown away by the down to earth, pleasant waitress taking our order and by the faster service bringing our coffee to the table. Within 15 minutes, my order of Eggs Royale arrived, as it did the Scrambled Eggs with Salmon. Nice presentation, appetizing enough. On a closer look, I thought the English muffins were not toasted enough but my companion’s scrambled dish still looked very attractive. As I thought, the muffins were too spongy and dry, sucking up most of the little juice from my overcooked poached eggs. I do prefer my Royales just with salmon, since rocket can be too overpowering, so that didn’t go well either. The hollandice sauce wasn’t bad though. On the other hand, the other dish was much better. The eggs were scrambled to perfection, neither too runny, nor too hard and with a delicate hint of basil. The cherry tomatoes were ripe and juice and the salmon (just as mine, although I didn’t mention) it was pleasant enough, but only a poorer version of the one smoked next door at Forman’s. I maybe back, but I will avoid a Sunday morning with the hipster crowds and organic toddlers.
A lovely little snack at Bibendum. Anchovies pate is added for extra flavour and goes so very well with egg mayo!
