DAY 14: A SCENE THAT MADE YOU SAD
Chrysanthemum
The way Rangiku said it, it made Orihime’s cheeks flush slightly. “Ano… Things have been very good! I’ve been working at the bakery a lot more so I can pay for my rent, and have a little extra left over for food. And I’ve been chatting with Kurosaki-kun and Ishida-kun a lot lately-“ Finding it best to leave off there, she smiled widely, now slipping out of the embrace. "What about you? It’s been so long!"
"Oh, I'm fine Orihime!" The telltale blush that colored her cheeks and suddenly she was grinning from ear to ear. This was about her, not so much about Rangiku's events that happened recently.
"You must tell me about those two, are your feelings still as strong as ever for Ichigo~? Or has your Quincy friend been catching your interest and trying to vie for your attention~?"

Gin desperately wanted his mask back; he could feel it slipping down, rubbing angrily against the sharp line of his jaw and it hurt—he didn’t ask for this. He didn’t want this… he didn’t want to feel pain any more. Was he only thinking of Rangiku when he mentioned he could leave her alone to make things easier? No… He had turned off his emotions for so long, that feeling anything right now was completely unbearable. He felt despair aching within his very core, and he wanted the feeling gone immediately.
Adrenaline was kicking in, to run and get away from this conversation…from her… but he knew better than to leave her stranded again, without any answers. He had already begun to reveal parts of his past to her, the past that she knew nothing about. All of the lies were hard to keep track of after a century of deceit, and after trying to tear the God-King down only to fail… well, Gin was exhausted. He didn’t want to fight anymore.
“I’m not expecting ya to forget or to not be bothered by it, Rangiku,” Gin replied. His voice was firm and direct as he approached the topic of what they were to do now.
“I don’t know what ta tell ya. Ya want me by yer side, but I ain’t sure I know how ta do that for you anymore. This is all I know, now… how ta be alone.” Gin smirked at her, although there was a hint of something else other than a taunt behind this particular smile.
‘I’m telling ya right now, this ain’t worth tha trouble it would cause t’ya.’
A century of holding back… how could he just begin to let someone in now? Even though Rangiku stood the best chance of being let in, slowly but surely… that didn’t stop Gin from being absolutely terrified and unsure of the concept altogether.
"That you'll try, I'm not giving up on you. I never have been good when it came to anything like that with you." Giving an awkward laugh with a sad smile did she have her fingers grasp her arm that remained to hang at her side. She was still at a loss, after all the moments of wishing that he was here with her and finally getting her wish-- just to have it like this.
All she could feel in this moment was that she was being played with and she was not enjoying the feeling, with how things were standing between them. So much of it was tiring and worth enduring despite this for her. Waiting for him had always been worth it, and the feelings she had for him would never stop even if she moved on from his death that had been false.
Staring at him now was an unseen welcome blessing or curse that slowly coursed through her as the minutes passed by.
He was there and she was running to reach out and touch him like she's always dreamed about. Always so far away and out of her reach when a part of her felt that he was trying to reach out for her but just couldn't just like she was.
"All I know is reaching out while chasing after you, waiting for you to show up again..."
'Do you enjoy making me feel this way?'
She was beginning to wonder, just as she always did about him. The biggest mystery that her life held. She could never get a complete read on him and there would always be oddities hanging around him that she felt she would never learn and get out of him.
Send me anons as my kid.
BONUS POINTS IF YOU NAME THE OTHER PARENT.
Gin was too excited about the plans he had made to even pay much attention to Rangiku’s pouting. He knew sooner or later she would be having a good time, and would forget about how late he had been. At least he hoped.
It wasn’t often that Ichimaru Gin got to spend time with his childhood friend, especially while under the watchful eye of a particular captain of the Fifth Division. He would have to take advantage of the fact that they had at least tonight to be around one another.
“Eeeh? Uppity?” Gin asked, a smile plastered on his face. “Ain’t I always happy ta see you?” The silver-haired shinigami then opened up the door behind him, his arm extended as if to lead the way. “C’mon now, we got places to be~”
She gave a sigh and shook her head. "That's not what I meant, you're acting different than the usual 'happy' when around me." She stuck her tongue out like a child at him before staring at the now open door.
"You go first, I gotta make sure that you don't slip away at any moment, Gin. Since as you said, we got places to be~"
"Sometimes, you promise someone forever, but it doesn’t work out that way.”
[ The Antlers - No Widows ]
If I never get back home, There’s no garden overgrown, No widows in the walls, No widows left alone. No shirts to hang or fold, No kid out in the cold, No widows on the walls, No widows on the phone. If I’m stuck out here alone, If I’m stranded here all year, With just nothing left at home, No widows disappear.

Why is she so pretty. It’s not fair.
The blond just stared at the female arrancar who was looking at her. "---Is something wrong?"

“Rangiku-chan!” Envelopes the busty woman in a tight hug. To say that she missed her would be an understatement. Rangiku was the closest she had to family and they had the same food taste! "I’ve missed you!"
"Orihime-chan!" with a quick laugh she wrapped her arms around the girl. "I've missed you too! So tell me-" a twinkle formed in her eye, "-how have things been with you~? I need to hear all about it."
Time for answers
Ah, right…
The overwhelming realization that his lungs were taking in oxygen, that his veins were pumping blood and that both of his limbs were attached to his body hit him hard, and fast. There were no answers for his existence here… or anywhere, for that matter. He was supposed to be dead.
That was the reality of the situation. He shouldn’t have been standing here in front of Rangiku, having this conversation.
And that reality hurt most of all.
“Me caring ‘bout you… that’s such an unexpected thing ta hear?” Gin asked gently, not wanting to upset her further. Did he really come off as that cold? He thought it was obvious, how much he cared… hadn’t stopping his attack on Hinamori before the betrayal because of her presence meant something? Walking away instead of following through with his original intentions? How about sweeping her off of her feet only to bring her up to that rooftop, away from Aizen?
It was hard for him to accept the fact that she thought he was going to kill her at that time, but nonetheless, it all made perfect sense to him. He thought his weakness was obvious… after all, it certainly was to the God-King. He had even pointed it out, before Gin finally made his move.
But maybe this was another instance of how his motives and true, underlying feelings were only something he and he alone would ever be able to understand.
Suddenly, Gin felt as though what he was doing was wrong. He should have been letting her move on… that was why he never told her any of this in the first place. She could do better. She deserved better.
What kind of life did she have to look forward to if he remained in the picture? A traitor of Soul Society, seeking solace in the World of the Living. An ex-Shinigami who was supposed to be dead.
Gin breathed out a sigh.
“Rangiku, if this is too much… say tha word an I’ll leave ya be. I dun wanna hurt ya no more.”
"To that extent, yes Gin. You've only drifted off more and more as time passed till I thought it to be true." There was no point in lying and saying that what he did--- the distance that only widened between them over time, wasn't something she couldn't notice.
Even if she was still chasing after him even after all the time, reaching out for a man with his back turned to her as he walked away. He was always so far away and all she wanted was him to be right next to her. He was still so far away despite all she had finally gotten from him. Like she was being teased by having her fingers ghost over the fabric that covered him but never really touching before he was gone again.
"Why would I ever say anything like that? What would make you think that it'd be like that?"
She said that she'd stick around till she got everything she wanted, didn't she? Or was that all in her head and not a word of it could be let out into the open like she thought? With a calming breath she let it slide for the moment unless he decided to comment on it. One thing she wouldn't let slide was being pushed off. He wasn't getting away with that and she wasn't going to go off just because he wanted or asked for it.
Not with the proof before her that he was still alive despite all previous thoughts on it before coming here face to face with him.
"Do you think that after this that I can not be bothered by the fact that you're out there just to the wanderer? I can act and lie like this never happened around others, but not when I'm alone and by myself." As per usual for her, those times by herself were the times where she was vulnerable and out in the open with the darker thoughts and feelings.
"I want you to be here by my side, and not just in the physical context, either. I'm tired of the distance."
