it wasn’t the most ideal circumstances. honestly, alex’s mind couldn’t stop drifting off to spencer. while she wasn’t happy that everyone seemed to get new roommates and she still managed to be stuck with brynn, it could be worse. even so, being in the middle of jude and esther wasn’t all that, either. “ i mean, maybe… i’m sure they’ll fix things soon, though..! and you can’t go sleep in someone’s car. i need a buddy –- what if brynn tries to smother me ‘cause she realizes i’ll never have enough money to pay her back? ”

esther lets out a sigh, giving jude an almost sad look, “that’s gonna be a little difficult- this dorm isn’t really made for four people.” and he knows that, obviously, but she can’t help to be a little bitter- not when jude gets caleb and tatum. she folds her arms over her chest, feeling prickly and wrong, like she’s a stranger to him- which, she guesses she is now, “i don’t want it to have to be like this. jude… i don’t want us…” she trails off, “i’m sorry that you’re stuck with me.”

‘ move out then. i’m sure eun’s got room for you. ’ a barking laugh escapes, sickeningly hollow; his eyes drift anywhere to avoid her gaze, eventually settling on his hands, fingers picking idly at bloody cuticles. he’s still a little embarrassed from the rec room — still a little bitter from the split, wishing it were tatum or caleb here with him — and her words falls on deaf ears. ‘ yeah. ’ jude’s lips curl, brows furrowing in distaste. ‘ i’m sorry i’m stuck with you too. ’

it was incredibly uncomfortable. it was as if the administration had looked straight at esther and said ‘suffer!’ there wasn’t anyone else they could’ve put her with? she was quite sure that anyone else would have been better. she opened her mouth to say something, but closed it again, fingers tapping at her thighs nervously. she turned again, giving her old friend a tight smile, “so… this’ll be fun, huh?”

for the first time since the great move, it felt like jude had finally found some semblance of peace away from his roommates — yet naturally, the second he finds any solace, it’s broken by the other’s voice. ‘ mm. ’ the brunet barely reacts at first, shifting in his makeshift bed; he already misses the peace of pythagoras, the feeling of living with people he doesn’t hate. ‘ we can all stay out of each-others way and it’ll be fine. ’

‘ you wish.’ he won’t acknowledge it, but there’s a seething resentment growing in his gut as he watches the other male & his sticky little hands. jealousy wasn’t a feeling he was used to — but in the small car it’s hard to ignore, and a guffawing, hollow laugh slips out. ‘ if we all die, this is your fuckin’ fault, caleb. ’ his eyes meet the mirror for a moment, staring back at elena’s — then he laughs again, an indignant snort escaping, gaze shifting to the window.

his face sours like a petulant child, lips screwing into the beginnings of a scowl. he’s never liked the rain, and the way it splatters forcefully off the windshield makes him nervous, fingers balling into fists in his lap. jude keeps his gaze down, blue eyes rolling back in his head. ‘ shut it, ‘aleb. ’ his hand sticks out to jab the other, a little more forcefully than intended.

‘ yeah. ’ the back seat’s the last place jude wants to be, sandwiched between caleb’s sprawling limbs and the passenger seat, reclined back to the fullest extent by the brunette in front of him. his knees dig into the fabric, nearly doubled over, and it’s with an idle hand he waves away caleb’s words, gaze refusing to meet the blonde’s in the rear-view mirror. ‘ dunno. just found — just found these two walkin’, an’ didn’t want them to go alone. ’
