Updated: With the anime coming (MON) October 7, 2024 and Volume 8 being released in English September 2024, and Volume 9 coming April 2025, we are reaching the end of canon content. Please support the mangaka if you are able by purchasing physicals and voicing your support for the work where you can.
How do I support something when I can't even get it?
It can take a little work. Ask your local bookstore to stock Yakuza Fiance: Raise Wa Tanin Ga Ii, special order the manga where possible (bookstores pay attention to enthusiastic fans who place special orders), put in requests on websites, reach out to your local manga publishing companies.
Hi fellow Raise fans! Thank you for the follows and reblogs. Can't say enough how much we appreciate knowing our work, however imperfect, is appreciated. We will keep doing our best!
While you wait for the next update, and if you can afford to do so, we hope you'll consider purchasing the raws or physicals of the manga. It's so good that it's worth owning, we think, and if you can afford it you won't regret it!
With that in mind, we have some resources for you.
Please note: These are not affiliate links and clicking on them does not benefit us in anyway. This is for you in case you are inclined or are able to buy this fantastic manga!
Physicals

Kinokuniya is a Japanese bookseller with locations in 12 countries (includes the UK, southeast Asia, Australia, and the US). They carry Japanese and licensed English volumes. Pre-orders can sometimes come with a premium like an art sketch. Click for locations worldwide. They ship!
Secondhand volumes are available on Walmart's site, Thriftbooks, and Alibris. They are also available from various eBay sellers.
While you're at it, consider getting a copy of Konishi's first work, Haru no Noroi (or Haru's Curse) It's a great story and a heartstring-tugging read.
Digital
For Japanese:
Click on the bold underlined text links and enable your browser to translate. If you are using Chrome there is a free translation extension in the Microsoft store.
For a monthly manga subscription: Kodansha Afternoon has a really nice monthly magazine which includes Raise and other manga.
For single chapters: Kodansha has the COMIC DAYS site. New members get 100 coins to start-- each chapter is between 60 and 80 coins. Chapter 1 is free and more recent chapters are free for a short time a few months after their release.
For ENG (US only):
For single chapters: Kodansha's app K MANGA. One of our friends on the RWTGI fandom Discord tested it and you can get the first 9 chapters for free, another 3 for free around 13-14, and every month or so they unlock another chapter. For $1 you get 99 tickets to 'rent' a chapter (like you own it but you can only read it on the app, isn't Digital Rights Management fun?), you can also 'earn' tickets each time you log in, and currently they have a promotion going.
Unfortunately this is only available to US residents as of this writing. If you have Twitter, give Kodansha a shout and let them know what complete bollocks/bullshit this is: KMANGA_KODANSHA
Don't repost our work, don't retranslate it, don't make us another casualty of copyright law. Kakao and other publishers are currently cracking down on 'M' scanlator sites and doxing site admins.
So please: Be chill so we can just enjoy this thing together. Thanks!
If you saw the anime and then found us through scanlations, we're glad you're here. Raise Wa Tanin Ga Ii/Yakuza Fiancé is a really fantastic manga and we enjoyed working on it.
The manga is still on hiatus. We don't know when or if it will return.
The mangaka has cleared all mentions of the anime from their Twitter and we are concerned that we might have contributed to their distress by picking up new material when we did, after it was licensed, and scanlating it.
We understand that licensed translations aren't available in all languages and is not carried by all retailers. The best way to address that is to use whatever resources we have to ask for access as often as we need to so we get it.
We urge you to please do your best to support the mangaka by buying physical or digital licensed translations.
-> Not available in your language? Reach out to publishers in your country and ask them to pick it up.
Publishers have social media accounts on Twitter and other social media platforms. Look up their webpages or accounts and reach out to them. Don't wait for surveys and for them to ask you what you want, ask.
Start with this list of manga publishers on Wikipedia.
-> Not available for sale at your local bookstore or chain? Reach out to retailers and ask them to stock it.
Google bookstores in your area, look for customer service contact information on your local Amazon instance and set up an alert.
-> You can also get manga physicals and digitals through libraries. Library copies contribute to a an author's sales numbers, reading scanlations does not. If your local library doesn't have volumes, ask them to get it.
-> You can buy your own chapters on Bookwalker and use a translation app such as Papago on your own.
-> Currently simulpubs are available on the K_Manga app. If you can't access it, reach out to Kodansha and let them know. If they don't know you want something, they can't give it to you.
Don't assume all mangaka are okay with scanlations: Konishi had Kodansha go after TikTokers who used clips of Koji Yusa from the Shouma CV, so clearly they feel strongly about using copyrighted material without permission.
We know collecting manga is an expensive hobby, and the animanga industry is notorious for overworking and underpaying artists, but if we really appreciate the work they do we need to respect artists by being willing to compensate them for their time and energy.
Please let us know if you'd like a template for how to ask for what you want. And if you're able to buy you can refer to our pinned post for resources. If you don't see retailers or sites you use frequently, let us know so we can update our info.
We've gotten busy with life but have been checking back and the mangaka has not posted any updates so we're not aware of them coming off hiatus any time soon.
In the meantime, SUPPORT THE MANGAKA: Buy the tankobons if you can afford them, watch the anime when it airs and hype it on social media, and if you can't find the content legally in your area reach out to manga publishers in your region and book stores and ask them to stock your fave. Let them know that you want access to content. Bookstores take note when fans get excited about stuff.
Whatever you do: Please do not pay fees on scanlation sites that promise ad-free browsing.
*Kyoudai is Japanese for 'siblings' and how group members are sometimes referred to-- your brothers (and sisters).
This is going to be a long one. Settle in.
ICYMI: The anime is coming!
First episode premiered last weekend at Anime NYC and the trailer was released about 2 weeks ago. Preliminary buzz seems to be positive. No specific date yet but we know it's coming out October 2024 and Crunchyroll will be simulcasting.
A dub has not been announced but never say never.
On Twitter follow the official account raisetanin_pr and Crunchyroll for anime news.
From those initial sketches to the anime announcement, it's been a long 7 (8? 9?) years, hasn't it? Check out this art glow up:
The anime looks a little different and apparently that's intentional.
Here's Shouma as an example from one of our fave fandom accounts.
The licensed English translation of Volume 8 will be released on September 3. Check our resources post for vendors and if you don't see your country/retailer absolutely comment or reblog with info to help your fellow fans.
The mangaka is still on hiatus and no word on when they plan to resume. But also no word on how many episodes are expected which could mean that viewership numbers and an uptick in sales of the physicals/digital versions could get us a full season and/or more chapters.
Support support support!
(Pro tip: Physicals are cheaper in the long run. Crunchyroll is selling physicals for $12USD down from $15USD.)
And if you have Raise merch, and a Twitter account, consider posting pix of your pretties and tagging with the name of the animanga to show your support as well. Post on Tumblr too! The more the engagement the better the chances this will continue.
Note: Spelling matters here.
In Japanese, the title is 来世は他人がいい which is romanized to raise ha tanin ga ii or in title case Raise Wa Tanin Ga Ii*.
The bit at the end いい (spelled 'ii' or in sentence case 'Ii' is pronounced 'ee') means 'good' or 'nice' or 'better' so when you tag it's more いい to use a capital eye and a lowercase eye instead of 'Li' or 'li'.
Raise wa Tanin ga Ii <-- like so
In a serif font its easier to tell when I type an 'I' and an 'l'.
Most social media platforms use Arial or Colibri so the capital 'i' looks like an 'l') so when tagging keep in mind that the 'Ii' at the end of the romanized Japanese title (Raise Wa Tanin Ga Ii) is actually capital 'I' (as in 'I am a fan') and a lowercase 'i'.
*People used to use わ (wa) as a particle but it was decided that は (ha) had a cleaner look to it in written Japanese however people still pronounce it 'wa' because change is harrrrrd. So the title has 'ha' in it but it's read and written 'wa'.
Hope you had a great summer and you're as excited as we are to experience our fave in a new way!
We are sorry to report that Konishi-sensei announced an indefinite hiatus for reasons other than health.
There was no new Japanese chapter for March so we will not be posting any updates in April. Their tweets are now protected, so out of respect for the mangaka we are not linking, and we ask that if you have shared any images you take them down.
Thank you and try to have a good rest of the week!
Blossoms are out, extras are up (only on Mangadex). We'll adjust the numbering if it turns out the next chapter is 38.2. Link under the pretty picture.
Thanks for being chill. We knew you would be, only the finest manga fans are, but we still appreciate it. This month took a little longer than we thought it would with offline stuff and personnel rearrangmensts but we're figuring it out.
Please support the mangaka (if/when you can). If you can't wait for us, you know what to do (see: Pinned Post).
Konishi recently posted that some overseas markets are not doing so great with sales (like Taiwan) and publishers are dropping. We're not naive enough to think we're taking a massive chunk out of profits for Kodansha and Seven Seas, but still. Do your bit, if you can. It's a good manga and owning your own physicals/renting your own digital copies is nice.
Old Twitter sketch of Konishi's:
Caption: Shouma gave her this mysterious shirt.
Shirt: NOT STAFF Please don't talk to me
Read Raise wa Tanin ga Ii Vol. 9 Ch. 38.1 "April 2024 Extras" on MangaDex!
Happy Spring Break! The ENG team is taking off for Spring Break which is an American thing that is both really stupid (because it's generally just an excuse for drunken idiots to trash beach towns on both coasts) and really necessary (because touching grass is kinda fun) so we'll be back in April. Until then, be cool, don't repost, order the licensed English if you can (Volume 7 is available on Amazon April 2), and stay hydrated.
Have a great rest of your week and thanks for reading! 🌸🌸🌸
Quick update: We're currently down to two people with our TS taking over the Spanish exclusively (and life is a bit hectic right now) but we will be updating in advance of the next Japanese chapter release.
Reminder: If you have some cash to spend, the licensed English Volume 7 physical comes out April 3rd. See our pinned post for suggestions for where/how to buy. If you have fave online booksellers in your country that we don't have in our list, feel free to message us a name or link we can add to our post.
(Posting a pic of the Japanese cover because the English one is weirdly cropped and it makes us unhappy.)
LOOK AT THIS.
If you are an experienced Typesetter who has a few days a month to help out, please let us know! We would prefer someone closer to our Cleaner/Redrawer's timezone (Pacific Time (PT) zone, which is UTC-8 during standard time and UTC-7 during DST) since they'll be your closest collaborator.
Nothing to report other than a reminder that they exist.
Konishi-sensei said they won't be making any more official merch this year after what's on offer at Anime Japan at the end of the month (see below for ordering), but we can hope we get more gorgeous art like this colored in page from Chapter 37: You Are Life.
Working on the extras and hope to have them up later this week or early next.
If you're interested in the latest official merch drop, pre-orders are open on Chugai now until the end of the month with delivery in June.
Click here and enable your browser's translation extension.
Reminder: We do not benefit in any way from these links, we're just sharing them because we're gagging for some gorgeousness and have some disposable income to spend and if you're in the same boat then get in on it!
Keep an eye on eBay, Mercari, and AmiAmi for availability after the ordering period!
In lieu of a chapter this month, we get four extras WITH (extra) SHOUMA!
Part Time Job 1: One of Shouma's coworkers at his part time job finds his bad boy attitude charming, the other is all 'Girl... don't do it.' (We stan the brunette with the bad attitude.)
Part Time Job 2: Shouma is told to pay for his own food at a goodbye party for the blonde in the previous extra, goes home to change and sees Yoshino cooking eel (like she talked about doing for Valentine's Day). Forgets the goodbye party and goes for the good stuff.
Basically a Dog: Kirishima goes to see Yoshino for pats after Tachibana wings at bottle at him for missing curfew. Callback to a Pixiv concept sketch where he comes home all bloody after a fight and she fixes him up. This time some of the Miyama group guys join them for snacks but Kirishima wants all her attention.
Protective: Yoshino stubs her toe and get babied and coddled, but she still hates hospitals so of course she gets a treat afterwards.
Props to @papeldecelofan for pointing out his watch, which we're all thinking is the one she gave him for his birthday.
We'll be trying something new this cycle while our TS moves into their new role as the Spanish TL/TS, our Cleaner/Redrawer takes on TSing the English, and our TL takes over creating laying out Glossary Pages and footnotes!
We encourage you to check out our pinned post for info on how to get your own raws or the simulpub. We'll be posting our scans in about 2 weeks. Next Japanese chapter comes out March 25th.
That's right fam! If you live in the continental United States, have the KManga app on your phone, tablet, or open the site on your computer's browser, you can rent chapters (including today's release) 99¢ US, including today's newest chapter at around 11am/noon EST today. Mangadex has, very thoughtfully, placed the link to K-Manga's site right where you can see it.
This is not the end of our involvement with the scans, just a heads up that if you want to/can support the mangaka and can't wait for us, it's SO easy! And cheap! We love scanlating, particularly now for Spanish-speakers who don't yet have access to licensed versions, but we've always been transparent about options if you have cash or access. (See our pinned post.) So if you can, do the (right.) thing.
Disclaimer: We're no angels ourselves— we started doing this because two other groups dropped when it got licensed but the licensed volumes were still way behind the Japanese and we couldn’t cope. Basically we're impatient little heathens like everyone else.
But if you're having fun hanging with us delinquents, keep your notifs on and we'll see you soon.
Some panels from the upcoming chapter? Or extra content? We don't know but we're excited (edit ours).
Felt. New Japanese chapter dropping end of the week, scan to follow 2-3 weeks depending on length. Our TS will be taking charge of the Spanish scans so we'll be making adjustments as needed.
Before we give any thought to the next chapter (less than 10 days away) we need to address this elephant in the room:
This one. Who is reposting our stuff, and not even with the credit pages. They're so unslick it's embarrassing.
Honestly, the only reason we were asking people NOT to do this from the beginning was obvious, but like we were being REALLY LOUD ABOUT IT beause the last chapter we used uncensored raws. It's not hard.
The last group had their social media taken down, etc. and we just really don't want to have that happen which is literally why we've been making a fuss about not reposting and retranslating!
Anyway, if you're already in the Bato Discord, this is the person we're reporting. Appreciate your support.
We like K-Pop but this... this is just garbage behavior.
After that last chapter we needed a little more fluff and silliness so here's a lovely Valentine's Day sketch Konishi-sensei posted on Twitter last year!
Also check out this panel Konishi-sensei posted a few minutes after we did. This next chapter looks... interesting.
We thought the Valentine's Day extra might be included in a tankobon/licensed volume so we held off but it hasn't been published so we're sharing our version. Enjoy responsibly!
Do not repost JBS's version outside of Mangadex. Just read it on Mangadex with the rest of us heathens. Comment there if you like what we're doing and let us know you're reading. Thanks!
Do not retranslate JBS's version. The original sketches are still up on Twitter on Konishi's account but if you do don't blast it all over the place because Konishi seems to be deleting things again (like the panel above that disappeared shortly after it was posted).
Here's where we cover our asses: We do not permit reposting for the same reason we do not have affiliate links or a Patreon - aggregators monetize scanlations which is not just illegal but massively disrespecful and we don't want any part of that.
We like doing this, it's fun, but generally groups drop when stuff gets licensed for a reason (it's not legal) so all joking aside we'd like to come away from this experience without getting a nastygram from someone's lawyers.
TL;DR: Bitches, please be cool.
Thanks for understanding and we'll see you at the next upload! (´。• ω •。`) ♡
Konishi-sensei dropped a little taste of what we hope is either the upcoming chapter or extra content. Because seriously, fam, we really need some more Shouma Freakin' Toriashi.
LOOKIT DIS GUY (((o(*°▽°*)o)))
Giving us those butcher shop retro cafe vibes from that merch drop last year and we're here for it.
We made it to another weekend! Konishi-sensei tweeted a soft announcement about possible bonus content!
It sounds like it will be about 20pp and if that happens we ask that you please be patient.
While we wait for clarification, enjoy this video of harvest time on a Thai rubber plantation.
And reminder: We're sorry for not being more straightforward about this, but we don't permit reposting on other sites. Aggregators monetize your clicks, sell your information, expose you to viruses and malware, and are making money off our work which is turning something fun we like to do in our free time into a crime. We don't condone this and so we ask that you read on Mangadex* ONLY. Thank you.
*If for some reason you’re not able to access Mangadex let us know so we can make arrangements to share the content in a way that is safe for users and doesn’t get us sued. TY
