LORD JULAN ROYCE
HOUSE ROYCE
Loyal to House Arryn and the Eyrie
'It's better to feel pain, than nothing at all. The opposite of love's indifference, so pay attention now.'
Morgana recognized Julan. While she may not know a lot of the families all across the North, the Eyrie was close enough that she knew a lot of them. And they Royce’s were ones she knew. She nodded her head as she took a sip of wine. “So far, so good. Though I truly have to admit, I hope it does not end like the other gathering. I still do not like that is what our King had to deal with so soon after his coronation.” She smiled over at him once more. “How are you finding the South? Agreeable?”
WHILE HE DID NOT have much interaction with the Tully family, the Riverlands had always been one of their allies in the North. Diplomacy was left to the more refined members of his family but he knew his manners and smiled over his own cup of wine. “ I share the same hope, ” he replied with a sobering expression. It had been dreadful especially when it happened so close to home, he could only imagine what their king had dealt with that day. The next question made him sigh with a small shrug. “ I had forgotten how warm it could be compared to Runestone. I feel like at any moment I want to tear my leathers off and dive into the closest clean water. ” Upon realising it was too much information, he gave Morgana a sheepish, apologetic smile. “ And you, Lady Tully? Is the south agreeable or are you praying for home? ”
there was never a dull moment in king’s landing, especially not when a celebration was in full swing. this time it was the targaryens who were the hosts, which meant that rhaenys gracefully fluttered about, playing a gracious host to all of the guests. simple courtesies were not her elder brother’s forte. a blessing in some sense. if he was truly going mad then the last place rhaenys wanted him was around large crowds. besides, rhaenys would have mingled with their guests even if it wasn’t expected of her. what fun was a celebration if one didn’t enjoy the company?
bidding farewell to the current group she was speaking to, rhaenys grabbed herself a glass of wine before approaching someone else. a warm smile graced her lips. ❝ are you enjoying the celebration? if there is anything else you require please don’t hesitate to ask. ❞
WHILE HE WATCHED HIS father converse with other lords of the realms, Julan was quick to slip away. Conversations about political alliances could never hold his interest and he did his best to break away from them. Julan wouldn’t have been surprised if his father returned with marriage proposals for his youngest brother and himself. Not that Julan was interested in any of it. So he lost himself amongst the large, joyous crowd. It seemed everyone in the realm, north or south, was reveling in the celebrations for the King. Though the whispers of the southern King’s madness was still being spread, Julan had seen no sign of the king to decide for himself.
The princess’s voice caught his attention, causing him to turn and give her his full attention. Remembering the manners he had been taught he gave a small bow, inclining his head towards the princess. “ I am, you’re grace. It has been a long time since I’ve attended a celebration such as this but it has been such a good time, ” he answered, remembering his manners. “ Are you enjoying yourself? It must be tiring being the host of a large event like this. ”
Morgana was enjoying the gathering so far. There had been good food, good wine, and even better company. She had opted for one of her purple dresses today, red hair half plied up elegantly on her head. She knew she looked nice and enjoyed being able to show off her outfits without a coat. She had ended up in the great hall, food and wine constantly out for the visiting nobility. She poured herself another glass of wine, looking around the room to see if there was someone she could talk to. Someone made their way over and she smiled. “I will say this, the south knows what they are doing when it comes to entertainment. I can appreciate that.”
THE SOUTH STILL FELT like enemy territory despite being invited for a celebration. It was his duty to come and represent his family so he did so, putting on his best finery in the Royce’s colours and being on his best behaviour. While the Royce’s were not the ruling house of the Eyrie, they had a duty to come to the south and join the celebrations like everyone else. Julan was glad for the opportunity to catch up with his father and other fighter he had been on the battlefield with. If weren’t for the unease of being in the south, he might have even enjoyed himself. The fine food and wine did capture his attention and he made a beeline for the food before realising there was another beside him. “ And I can certainly agree that they sure know how how to put on a good feast, ” he grinned. “ Are you enjoying the festivities, my lady? ”
the courts offer bread and salt to JULAN ROYCE of HOUSE ROYCE loyal to HOUSE ARRYN. many say that the THIRTY SIX year old LORD ROYCE is known to be LOYAL and STRATEGIC, though ill tongues whisper that HE is RECKLESS and UNCOUTH. may he be blessed and protected in this war of crowns. Julan was born the second son to Lord Allard Royce. His birth was surrounded by rumours as he was born with a dark tuft of hair amongst the light haired Royce’s. His father refused to hear an ill word against his beloved wife and new child. As Julan is never expected to be an heir to the house’s seat, the rumors quickly died.
After Julan’s birth, four more children followed — two more sons and two daughters. A son and a daughter were born with similar dark hair and colourings to Julan which officially put away the rumors around his birth. As the eldest brother was busy, Julan became the brother that the younger siblings would come to for advice or training and he was happy to do so.
As the second son, his teachings weren’t focused on ruling, instead he learned battle strategy and became excellent with the sword and bow and arrow. He had dreams of being a knight but with the wars and scuffles popping up in their lands and in the Eyrie, he kept his focus on being a useful ally and fighter to represent his family.
While his father has been keen on Julan marrying, he has never found someone to settle with. Matches have attempted to be made but since he has a dirty mouth, most ladies find him uncouth and do not want to be matched with him despite being considered handsome. This doesn’t bother Julan as he has never lacked a lover, he just hasn’t wanted to marry.
When Lord Arryn’s son was rearranging the men in close council, his father was offered an opportunity but instead sent Julan. With his strong strategic mind and loyalty, he has become a useful and trusted adviser.
He takes his families words quite seriously. WE REMEMBER. Julan finds his own meaning in them and as such, he is always kind to the small folk knowing they will remember the kindness as much as they would remember cruelty. He learned this habit from his mother.
He is very calm in nature. In day to day, it makes him level headed in discussions and planning. On the battlefield, it makes him eerily terrifying to those opposing him. That’s not to say he isn’t fun as well. When there isn’t business or war at hand, he is overtly friendly and loves to hear people’s tales and stories.
RANDOM HEADCANONS
His father is still alive and ruling over Runestone. His eldest brother is married with three children, two sons. This makes him fourth in line for the house’s seat. Julan has no interest in ruling and never has.
Julan is naturally right handed but an injury from his second battle left his right arm heavily scarred, leaving his pinkie and ring finger weak and almost useless. He retrained himself to fight left handed.
Despite having his father’s favour, his is very much a momma’s boy.
He has a scar across his left cheek where he was kicked in the face by his first horse. He refused to ride for months afterwards but finally got over the fear after much teasing from his brothers.
