WHAAAAAAT? A NEW VLOG VLOG ON THE JULES AND MONTY CHANNEL? What madness is this!? Take a look at the above video for more awesome announcements than you can shake a stick at (and you can shake a stick at quite a few announcements, so you know this is big!). CHECK IT OUT!
Hi, we are two huge fans of your work and adore both 'Jules and Monty' and 'Wave Jacked'. Unfortunately, we only discovered your work within the last few months so we were unable to watch 'Jules and Monty' as you updated it, we do however have a question about it: One of the most common critics of 'Romeo and Juliet' is that what Romeo and Juliet experience isn't love, but lust. Do you think this argument was represented in 'Jules and Monty'? If so how? If not why did you choose to leave it out?
That, dear friend, is an AMAZING question! I think the main argument for that problem in Romeo and Juliet is the whole “we met yesterday, but marrying you today and dying for you two days from now seems exactly like a thing I’d do” bit of the play. It happens in such a short period of time and they barely know each other when the whole thing starts, it makes their entire relationship seem like a hormone driven lust fest. What we did for Jules and Monty was stretch out the timeline. So yes, they do meet and fall for each other pretty hard and fast at that first party (thank you alcohol…) and yes, Monty tracks her down and they profess their feelings for each other, but if it was only simple lust, it probably would have worn off pretty quick. Jules and Monty then proceed to date for about 2.5-3 months before Monty gets kicked out of school, and only then do things turn south. Also, the fact that Jules and Monty are 18 and 19 year olds instead of a 17 year old and a 13 year old helps the J+M case (: I think the immediate burst-fire attraction of Romeo and Juliet is definitely present in Jules and Monty, but they last for so long that I don’t think it can simply be attributed to lust; these are two characters who genuinely love each other through a long term, adult relationship. We wanted to cut out that idea of a love that’s a flash in the pan because a longer, stronger relationship means so much more, and hurts more to watch fall apart. I think the bottom line is Romeo and Juliet have an unrealistic relationship, and we very much wanted Jules and Monty to have a real, healthy one. Thanks for the great question! -First, that’s actually not Ed in the America jacket, but Emma (Erica in Wave Jacked), because we needed bodies in the room and Ed had to be behind the camera. Emma and Ed can be found behind Shiloh when she’s facing Jamie (TWO Emmas in ONE room? MoViE mAgIc!)
-Everyone in this shot who isn’t Jamie or Shiloh is on our lovely crew. From right to left: Lily, Matt, Orlando and Kerry is the girl behind Shiloh Constantly taking selfies.
-Speaking of Matt (the lad in the checkered shirt), he was running sound that day. See those headphones he’s wearing? They’re hooked up to the boom that we had on the floor. He’s booming the scene from WITHIN THE SCENE. GOD. DAMN. PROFESSIONAL.
-Listen closely to the professor’s voice, you may recognize her as well (: There are actually a ton of little easter eggs planted throughout Wave Jacked, and this was a fun one, so again, good find! Keep looking for them and let us know when you think you’ve found something!
