Literary Inspired Webseries Runtime Stats
Ever wanted to binge watch a webseries, but they all felt so long? YouTube doesn’t list the total runtime of a playlist anymore, but you can get a browser extension that tells you the runtime. So I’ve used this extension to catalogue how long LIWs are, so next time you want to go watch a show, you know exactly what you’re getting into.
If there’s a show I haven’t included that you’d like me to add, just let me know!

How long did it take you guys to write the series? Were there some episodes that were easier/harder to write? Do you have personal favorite episodes or moments?
Hey! So the series took a while, about as long as Jules and Monty. We started writing sample bits for our actors to read in auditions, and then we cast the thing and wrote to the actors we selected for their specific parts, so each episode was crafted for the actor playing the titular character. I’d say it took about 6 months to write and polish the whole thing! Some were really easy, like Dionysus fell together pretty quickly, whereas for some reason, Hephaestus took about 6 drafts to get right (but we’re pretty proud with how it came out). Personal favorite episodes are tough because we really poured our heart and soul into these guys, but I think my top 3 would be (in no order) Hera, Dionysus and Hephaestus. Thanks for the ask! Sorry about the delay in response (:

hey, love the show, just wondering where you guys get your music from? it had such an atmospheric soundtrack
Hey! Thanks so much for watching! We get our stuff from all over the place. We started this idea with Jules and Monty where we just ask our super talented friends to use their music so we have a sound track and they get some exposure, and it worked so well that 2 web series later, we’re still doing that. Bands from our college, bands of our friends, really just student bands who’s music we loved and who’s people we knew. They were all super kind in letting us use their stuff, and every episode has it’s music’s info in the description, so there’s plenty more where that came from! Thanks for the question!

pantheon university: the dramatic inversion order breakdown
a while ago, i said i would get around to posting my full breakdown of the alternate order i came up with for this show. that order can be read about here and watched here. there is a simple breakdown listed on the original post about it, but this post is for those interested in how detailed the justifications for this ordering became, and there are some ruminations on themes in the show.

Trying to re-order PanU because reasons. My notes are messy but I get it. I kinda wanna run my order by a newbie to this webseries & I might explain it thoroughly if/when I post the actual order if anyone cares.
Okay I caved. I’m going to write [read: gush profusely] about the cinematography in Pantheon University which you should consider watching if you really enjoy the idea of Greek gods being thrown into a college setting [it’s even better than it sounds if you can believe it]. Seriously. Go watch it.
[Spoilers abound for the show under the cut.]

all amazing points. at some point maybe i’ll write about how the cinematography interacts with episodes like “ares” and “apollo”, because those are the other two that really stand out to me. the others you already commented on, or otherwise did a one line mention in the closing thoughts.
i’m also pretty sure zeus’ episode wasn’t shot in one take. there are several hidden cuts, and some will be easily spotted once you look for instances where there’s a zoom in toward a black background. although this isn’t something i got on the first watch, when i looked back at who directed the episode (since there were different directors and dops on each episode), i noticed that it was ben taylor. more pertinently, he was also the editor of that episode. way back in the jules and monty vlog vlog extras, he talked about the hidden cuts used in that show, and reading that actually made me consider that he was using the same technique again. this is super specific information that i don’t expect a lot of people to have at hand, but this is just more information for you.
i can’t speak to other directing styles though, since the only one i’m familiar with between panth u and other things by neat-o productions would be ed, who directed wave jacked. he directed the musical episode, “dionysus”. while i did notice that “dionysus” has a similar reality-bending quality to it that an episode of wave jacked would, i don’t have anything specific to say about the directing or editing style at this time.
Are we supposed to get romantic undertones from the whole Hera/Hephaestus thing?
[SPOILERS]
I’m going to leave that up to you to decide. I think they provide something important for one another, but I personally wouldn’t say it’s romantic. Hera needs a friendship that is entirely her own and separate from her world with Zeus. Hephaestus provides her with an escape and support (also she’s not really in the right place for another romance…). For Hephaestus, Hera is his connection to the real world, in some ways. She makes him feel valued and provides him with a real life friend (not that AI one’s aren’t awesome too). If you feel they have something between them, I think that’s perfectly valid, but I think they just share a bond of friendship that is what they both need.
I loved this web series so much!!! Just wondering if the different filming styles for each episode were done to reflect the god that they featured? If so how did you decide which style for each god? If not why did you choose to use all the different styles? Thanks :)
Hello, so very glad to hear you enjoyed it!
So yes, the different film styles were very deliberately chosen to be another tool to develop the character/tell the stories of the god we had chosen to feature with (note: if you haven’t watched watched yet, there aren’t really any spoilers below here, but I do talk a lot about some cool stylistic stuff which is way more fun to watch than it is to read about. Just saying). Since every episode is essentially a character study, we wanted both the shooting style and the genre of the episode to reflect that god’s character.
Poseidon and Apollo for instance: they both have rather big personas. Poseidon has his (albeit very charismatic) ego, and his episode manifests itself in the documentary/mockumentary format, which best showcases that ego, and places him at the center of things without doing any of the work. Apollo, similarly, has the blog thing going, but it puts her completely in control of her world and the narratives that surround her… or so she thinks.
Also we have episodes like Zeus and Hera: Zeus is a fast paced, in the moment, impulsive sort of character, which is reflected in his episode by the one shot dynamic, condensing the life of an insane party into just a matter of minutes, the action and drama constantly bombarding him. Here’s episode is the exact opposite: the pieces of her episode come together slowly as they track the course of a four year relationship with Zeus. The pacing and the story telling aspects of the episode are all in place to bring you into Hera’s world, to see how long she’s been invested in, and contained by, her relationship.
Then there’s something like Dionysus, which doesn’t really advance the plot of the series, comes out of nowhere, and has little to no impact on anyone else but is directly inspired by its title character. It’s flashy, fast paced, loud and fun… just like a musical number.
We tried to make each episode’s style as distinct as the character it focuses on in order to make their differences and characteristics shine even brighter.
Thanks so much for the question, keep them coming! - Ed
