Julian caught little Prue stealing cupcakes from the table at a party so he thought she was cute. Probably thought she was more of a rebel than she actually is.

Current impression:  

She’s perfect. He loves her more than he is capable of expressing and that’s saying a lot since he’s a charming mother fucker that woos her with endless sweet words.

In every way, shape, and form.

Something they find frightening about your muse:

He’s afraid he will do something to mess up and end up hurting her. He never wants to see Prue cry because of him.

EVERYTHING.

Julian continued to wrangle with the same thoughts he had been having repeatedly over the past few weeks as he drove towards Prudence’s home. With the baby getting closer and Julian’s interests lying in spending time with Prudence and their future daughter, his current job no longer felt as rewarding. It was weird being a general with no war to fight and these days, he didn’t even want to be far away from home. Travelling was one of the things about his job he enjoyed the most but he had been cancelling any plans for that for months. Maybe it was time to consider a career change?

His thoughts continued as he walked up the stairs and a large smile appeared on his face the moment he spotted Prudence. His joy quickly turned into suspicion, however, when he noticed the line of paint on her face and the very strong scent of paint coming from a nearby room. “Not to sound so traditional, but I could really get used to coming home and seeing you like this,” he teased, noting her hair was a mess and her clothes looked like they had been through quite a lot. Prudence had been working on something and it only occurred to him now how much he enjoyed the busy housewife appearance.

Prue saw the smile pulling onto her fiancé’s face and hers own grew as she took a step closer to him. She noticed the slight narrowing of his eyes though as he took in her appearance and Prue looked down at herself, smoothing out the wrinkles of the t-shirt she was wearing, tucking a stray strand of hair behind her ear. “You say that as if I shy away from traditional, My Lord.” she teased right back, closing the distance and leaning up on her (bare) toes to kiss him softly, her belly snug between them.

She was still smiling as she pulled back and she took his hand, giving it a little squeeze, “Did you have a good day at work?”

Julian chuckled and wrapped his arms around her as she kissed him. Prudence definitely didn’t shy away from being traditional and he liked that about her—she was the kind of person that could make any home feel warmer. This wasn’t even his home yet he rarely felt more comfortable than when he was lying with her in her room.

“Work was work,” he answered. “It’s hard to have a good time at work when all I think about is coming home to you and our daughter.” His eyes immediately went down to the bump under her shirt. Finding out that they were having a daughter made the reality sink in so much deeper and she already seemed like a live person to him. “How was your day, my lady?”

While Julian had been gone all day working, Prue set to work on the little surprise she had for him, at least a dozen of her family’s workers helping out to renovate one of the spare rooms in her home into a nursery. It was painted a pale blue like the sky, a shelf to the side holding some of Julian’s model planes she’d gotten from his home thanks to his mother. There were pictures of them together on top of the dresser along with a framed sonogram. The wall the crib stood against was dotted with painted clouds, an old blanket draped over the side with an embroidered S on it–another gift from the Duchess, and Prue was in the middle of hanging a little mobile when a maid came rushing in to say Julian was back and she moved as quickly as she could (which really wasn’t saying much these days).

Her hair was picked up messily and a smudge of paint was on her cheek as she walked out the room, closing the door behind herself just as Julian came up the stairs. “You’re home early!”

“Yes,” he answered, unable to resist the small smile that graced his lips at just the thought of his Prudence. “She’s a noble but her family doesn’t own any.” There was never a single collar in the Ackerman estate and it was as bewildering to most humans as it was to vampires. Stepping into the home was like stepping into another world some days. The workers were chatty, happy, and never seemed to show any fear. “They’ve freed every slave they’ve purchased. I assume that once we are married, my fiancée would insist on a similar practice.” 

Freya vaguely recalled overhearing her old master talk about a family like that once, but it had seemed like a dangerous conversation to listen in on, one that might give someone like her hope. She could still remember the name, though. “She’s an Ackerman, My Lord? I’ve heard about them, in passing.” It was more than just odd to think about being purchased just to be freed, it was impossible to imagine. “And you’re okay with that? Never owning any?” Perhaps it wasn’t her place to pry but she was just so bewildered that she couldn’t help but be curious.

Julian chuckled at the Ackerman name. He wasn’t really expecting to ever fall in love with one of them, since their families’ moral philosophies didn’t go well with one another, but he couldn’t say he was surprised. Julian’s major love before meeting Prudence was flying and the freedom it brought so it didn’t surprise him that he fell for someone who examplified a refreshing freedom from the expectations placed on them. “Perhaps in my private estate, but if I ever inherit it my parents’ Duchy, that won’t be possible.” With the full estate came thousands of slaves and an even heavier expectation to maintain them. It was one thing to free a few dozen slaves that worked in a household, but a completely different matter to free thousands that contributed to the economy of an entire Duchy. “What does freedom look like to you?” he asked.

Julian was certain that his mother would appreciate the naming convention since he was practically named after both his parents and Julian was not a huge fan of naming his child after either himself or his father because that would get awfully confusing. He raised his brow at the idea of naming a girl after Felicity, but he knew how much her sister meant to her. “I suppose Felicity does deserve something after helping us so much with the house, wedding, and baby…”

The conversation was interrupted by a knock on the door and a maid delivering their drinks. He sat up, the sheets pooling onto his lap, and grabbed the glasses, handing one over to Prue as he began to sip his. “Aurelia, right? That’s a nice name so I am fine with it,” he continued. 

Prue saw the eyebrow raise he gave when she mentioned Fliss and she bit her lip before giving him a little roll of her eyes and playfully swatting his chest. “I know she’s….a handful. But she’s my sister–she’s everything to me. And it’d mean a lot to me, to get to do that- for her…” she trailed off, jutting her lower lip out at him a bit, really trying to sell the point home.

She looked over then as the door opened and she moved, sitting upright and leaning back against the headboard as she took the glass with a little smile, thanking the maid before starting to drink- her own glass larger than Julian’s. “Right.” She confirmed, her smile growing at the fact that he actually remembered it. “Not to mention it was my grandmother’s name also. So I’d like that.” As she spoke she rested her hand on her belly again, the smile staying on her face as she steadily drank, enjoying the few more minutes in bed with him before they’d have to get up and finish getting ready to leave for their appointment.

When Julian finished his drink, he got out of bed, knowing he had to get ready eventually. He didn’t want to be late for their appointment even if he did fancy the idea of spending all day in bed with Prudence. It never took Julian very long to get ready and they were soon out the door.

As much as Julian enjoyed driving, a driver was waiting out front for them when they emerged from the estate. Julian himself collected sports cars and didn’t actually have any regular vehicles in his collection (often relying on his parent’s collection when a fancy even required him to not drive). With Prue’s belly getting larger by the day and her mobility soon limited, forcing her to get in and out of low to the ground cars was no longer an option.

When they got in the car, Julian laced their fingers together and stared out the window. The trip to the doctor’s office ran past their future home and he couldn’t help but wonder what Felicity was doing with it. “Do you think we’ll regret leaving your sister in charge?” he asked, nodding out the window to the estate. It was a plan meant to save Prudence from the stress of having to get everything ready herself but Felicity had been scarce with details and Julian wasn’t sure of what was happening on that front.

“Well you know what’s the best action for nervousness? To face it head on–at least that’s what my mother would say.” Prue mused, smiling up at him. His question made her pause though, thinking for a moment as she rubbed their hands over her stomach again before she shifted, moving them both so Julian was on his back and she could lay more on top of him, her belly snug between them as she met his eyes, “If it’s a boy…I’d like to look at J-names, like you and your parents. But um…if it’s a girl..I was thinking maybe giving her Fliss’ middle name as her own middle name? If you’d be okay with that?”

Prue smiled at his words, knowing there was no hiding how her heartbeat skipped at such a simple phrase, her insides feeling like butterflies fluttering around even after all these months with him. “Baby is fine right now.” She assured, tilting her head up enough to kiss his lips softly before they pulled apart and he was summoning one of her maids. She smiled politely at the girl, bidding her a good morning before she turned back to Julian and she nodded, taking his hand with hers and moving both of them under the material of her blouse, resting his palm over her baby bump. “I am. Nervous too but…very excited. Especially considering last time we got to see our baby it was just a blob.” she joked, smiling up at him. “And you, daddy? How’re you feeling?”

“Nervous,” Julian immediately answered. He had been picturing himself as a father ever since Prudence gave him the good news, but the actual gender of the child had been flipping back and forth in his head. He didn’t really have a preference but having a real person to imagine, a name to the blob, would make everything much more real. “Is now the time we start thinking of baby names?” he asked, figuring Prudence had much more knowledge about everything. “Because I haven’t even started thinking of any.”

It made sense that his family had a lot of slaves, given that he was noble. If anything, it surprised her to hear that he had never had any himself, her eyebrows raising up her forehead. How could he not see the point of them? Surely they had a lot of purpose. “Your fiancée hates the practice of… slavery?” she questioned. She couldn’t recall ever meeting someone who disagreed with it. It was just how things were, after all. “Is she noble born as well?” What a strange pair they made.

Toeing her shoes off, Prue shuffled more onto the bed and against him, her smile softening as his arm wrapped securely around her–around both of them. He started kissing all over her head then, making her break out into little giggles as she grinned up at him, nuzzling more into him and she nodded, “I did.” she agreed, tilting her head to press a kiss to the underside of his jaw. “And I guess after yesterday they’re giving me a reprieve and not making me want to puke the moment I wake up, which is always a good thing.” As she spoke she felt him swirling his finger along her belly, just keeping the smile on her face. “And you?”

“I always sleep well when I’m with you,” Julian replied, giving her another little kiss. He wasn’t typically the lazy type that enjoyed lounging around in bed all day but he would happily do it with Prudence at his side. “But I guess we should get up if our little baby is going to revolt by making you sick.” Julian was still in no rush, however, so he reached over and rang the little bell that summoned one of Prue’s maids. They both needed to feed this morning and Prue’s method required preparation. When they appeared, he quickly gave the order before returning his attention to Prue. “Are you excited for today?”

That was the question that had tortured her for the past week, kept her awake at odd hours. She knew the answer but wasn’t ready to face it. And more than that, she didn’t want to tell others, didn’t want to make them attentive to her faults. She shrugged, pretending to appear casual even if she was anything but. “He got some other slaves that he liked more and couldn’t keep all of us around, I suppose. Do you have any slaves, my lord?” she asked, unable to help get defensive, and also wishing to direct the conversation over to him.

“My family owns more than I can count.” It took a lot of labour and work to keep a duchy running and their estate in the Capitol was always buzzing as well. His parents were big spenders with high expectations so they always had an army of slaves at their disposal. “I, myself, have never purchased one.” Julian was definitely more low-key preferring to do things for himself. “I do not see the point and my fiancée absolutely hates the practice.”

Freya wasn’t particularly keen on talking about it. While her previous master had been generous in many aspects, he had always been strict when it came to her education. She couldn’t exactly deny a noble vampire, however. “No… My master, he - he didn’t want me to learn anything that might make me too, well, smart, I suppose? Things you learn in school. But I was taught lots of other things!” she added in an attempt to defend the man.

Julian could tell that she was getting defensive and wondered what kind of relationship this girl had with her previous master. “If you were so skilled, why did he send you away?” he challenged, already able to guess the answer. She was young and clearly had a tinge of innocence to her, despite not actually being so; he knew a few vampires who had types like that. They were a different type of cruel and the girl was better off shedding herself of that misguided loyalty.

“Oh, I - I read as a kid but then I was claimed for a long time. And now I’m… not claimed anymore.” It still hurt her to say as much, but at least with the unclaiming, she was able to read. A small light in the dark. “So I took up reading again. Hopefully I’ll get better soon.”

“You weren’t allowed to read that entire time?” he asked, curious to know more about the people he so often ignored. Ever since humans were enslaved, Julian paid little mind to them, finding them little more than sentient furniture--but Prue seemed to care so much that there had to be something about them that appealed to her.

Freya was relieved that the drink didn’t spill on either of them and that the guy she had crashed into didn’t seem too upset, even if he did seem a little irritated. She couldn’t blame him for that, though. “Good. I’m glad,” she said. She felt defensive when he pointed out that she was carrying what was categorized as a children’s book, however, and glanced down at it with a small frown. “Not everyone has the privilege of learning to read as a kid.”

Julian chuckled: he supposed she was right. He personally thought that slaves were more useful with the ability to read but many of them would never need it. “Where did you learn how to read then? If not everyone has the chance to learn.”

Prue heard the change in his breathing as he slowly woke up and she smiled, continuing the slow, gentle movement of her fingers along his stubbled skin and back up into his hair again. It still was sometimes completely mystifying to her that she could even do that- that she had someone like him in her life, someone like him that was hers. She had a feeling it might never feel normal..which was something she was actually very much okay with. 

When he rolled over and spoke she let out a breath, completely ready to say no because she’d already gotten dressed and she was getting a bit hungry–but then he was continuing, giving her (and her belly) a sleepy little smile, and she slowly caved. “I think our baby thinks only five kisses aren’t nearly enough to exchange in making them wait for their breakfast.” She teased, smiling at him as she moved, pulling her legs up onto the bed so she could curl against him into the space he’d made for her and immediately lacing their hands together to rest over her ever-growing bump. “Better?”

Julian grinned when Prudence gave into his little plea, immediately wrapping his arm firmly around Prudence and the little life growing in her stomach. “The baby drives a hard bargain but I don’t regret making the deal,” he teased, immediately peppering more than five kisses against Prudence’s head. “Did you sleep well?” he asked, drawing absentminded patterns against Prue’s stomach. It was growing larger by the day and he didn’t think he could wait much longer to meet their perfect little gift.

It was cold out and after having been to the library, Freya decided to head towards the coffee shop for a cup of hot chocolate to warm her hands on. She couldn’t resist the temptation to flip through her book - a Dr. Seuss - on the way there, however, and was soon engrossed in it. So engrossed that she didn’t see the person walking out of the shop until she crashed straight into them. “Oh!” she gasped. “I’m so sorry! I wasn’t looking - I’m terribly sorry. Are you okay?” she asked, looking down to see if they’d spilled anything.

Julian was less than impressed when he was crashed into, but he was fast enough to grab her hand and stop the hot drink from spilling on either of them. “I am fine,” he answered, letting go of the drink. He eyed the book in her hand and raised his brow. “Aren’t you a little too old to be reading that book?” he asked.
