A thought regarding Kelly Abbott after re-reading PART & PARCEL -

Kelly’s parents die when he’s young, and Kelly’s grandma gives him up to foster care when she’s no longer able to care for him. (And then she dies). Kelly then remains a foster child until he reaches his majority at 18, at which point he joins the Navy.

Sidewinder is the first real ‘family’ he’s had since the loss of his parents - the first family that feels like ‘home’ to him… But remember that up to this point, everyone in Kelly’s life (except for Sidewinder) has also left him.

And then Sidewinder is discharged, and Kelly makes sure that he can’t be left again.

Because just this once…he’s the first to leave.

As many of you have probably heard by now, the online store All Romance Ebooks announced quite abruptly yesterday that they are closing their doors on December 31, and not paying any of their authors or publishers for any sales made from October 1 forward. Since then the site has been inundated with both publishers trying to pull down their books (which ARe is still selling, despite their clearly announced intention not to remit royalties for those sales), and with readers trying to back up their libraries so they don’t lose them forever. It’s created such massive traffic spikes that performing either task has become nearly impossible.

But readers should not be punished for the unconscionable actions of a once-trusted store–especially since they gave only three days’ notice for their closing at a time when many, many people are on vacation and away from their inboxes. 

To that end, we would like to assure everyone who’s purchased Riptide titles at ARe that if you forward a screenshot of your bookshelf or email receipts to [email protected], we will replace those books for you free of charge. We’ll send you codes for each Riptide title you purchased at ARe, which you can use to download DRM-free book(s) in multiple formats (they’ll also be stored on your bookshelf, so you can re-download them at any time).

Please allow a few days for us to respond in the event that the volume is especially high.
