Adisorn/Demo Analysis and Appreciation!
After my most recent artwork, several people have expressed their interest in hearing my character analysis of Adisorn from Online Obsession by @sourmiiiilk.
If you have no idea what I'm referring to, go play the demo NOW. There WILL BE SPOILERS BELOW.
I'm here to deliver that analysis! Be prepared to read A LOT.
DISCLAIMER: I know this game is a demo and that a lot of these opinions will likely change or be debunked once the full game is released. I'm fully aware of that, this is just what I have observed so far with the demo. Also, I ramble and some things I will say might be obvious to some people. I've never done a character analysis/game analysis so this is mostly me talking about the game and the aspects I love about it.
Lets get started with Adisorn!
Adisorn is manipulating you VERY well.
Sourmilk does an exceptional job at making you forget that Online Obsession is a yandere visual novel. Specifically with the dialogue and the environment you're exposed to.
The personality system is a great example. It's a very unique game design that makes OO stand out from a lot of visual novels. BUT it also serves as a way for Adisorn to get closer to you. He quite literally "matches your freak" depending on your personality.
One of the best examples of this is in the diner!
When you're in the diner with Adisorn and choose to say,
He gets pretty pissed. Hes been stalking you for months and this is your first face to face interaction. Bro wants compliments
For the sake of clarification, I'll be referring to the three different personality types as Nerd, Bold, and Shy.
Bold Personality response (my favorite)
He knows you respond better to playful banter.
Doesn't push you to give a compliment.
Nerd Personality response
Tries to jokingly tug at your heartstrings to get a compliment.
Sourmilk has stated that your personality will change on how you interact with the environment and Adisorn. However, I also believe from a narrative stand point that it's Adisorn manipulating you. From being a demo we don't actually really know Adisorn and his true personality.. but he knows you.
He knows your interests, where you live, your routes, everything.
A little too much. He's overbearingly protective of you.
From dialogue and context clues we can determine that Adisorn definitely didn't have a good childhood. I believe that's where his obsessive behavior comes from. From leaving you notes to quite literally hacking into your bank accounts, the man definitely wants to make sure you're taken care of.. even if his methods are somewhat unconventional.
I can't say much about exactly *why* Adisorn loves us so much. It's more than likely the attention we give him (From lacking such attention with a rough childhood) and the fact MC and him vibe so well. Also, the fact Adisorn has hella rizz lmfaoooo
Also, another point of Adisorn being lowkey manipulative.. I genuinely believe the only reason he plays StarBlitz is because we enjoy it so much.
He has only taken interest in the game because we are obsessed with it.. even going as far as making his main character within StarBlitz Strawberry Paws (The MC's favorite character.)
Adisorn's Appearance + Theories
It's stated that Adisorn looks very out of place in the game.
Despite his character design being absolutely peak. It's very obvious that he doesn't belong in your cheerful pink aesthetic. The implications of this is immediate and it could be interpreted in several different ways.
He's like Monika from Doki Doki Literature Club.
Why doesn't he belong? After specifically picking the above writing apart, my guess is that he doesn't belong in the game. Maybe a "Just Monika" type situation. Something that helps me support this theory is when you try to leave the game.
Another supporting bout of evidence is the poem at the end of the demo. Specifically, "I wish I had at least once choice." Which could refer to the fact the player makes all the choices and Adisorn gets none... maybe he wouldnt choose to love us ooooOOOOooo man lmao
I don't fully believe that theory because of the fact that he has a backstory within the world and Monika doesn't in DDLC. It's just fun to theorize! Honestly trying to leave the game and those pop up is just a reference to the fact he doesn't want you to leave and he's a comp sci major/has hacked into your pc lmao.
What I fully believe is that he belongs to the horror part of the game . His design reflects the horrors he goes through within his mind and his past.
There are some details I wanted to point out, but you have to really dig into the files and the code. I will not be doing that, but there is spoiler information.
That's all I have to say about Adisorn at the moment. I will DEFINITELY do another character analysis when the full game is released. Adisorn is a very, very complex character for a "yandere" type. You can genuinely feel the aura personality he exudes even if it's fake or not!
I want to say that the demo is very, very beautifully done. You can genuinely feel the passion that has been poured into the project. Sourmilk, you've done an absolutely amazing job so far.
The game design alone is phenomenal and it's hard to believe it's been made by one person. The aesthetics and sound design is simply something of envy.
There are several little noises and visuals that make the game feel more alive! Clicking of the mouse, the pencil and pen in the main menu, interactive pop ups on the computer, even the subtle differences between Bold, Nerd, and Shy personalities.
Eyes are wider, more alert. They are orange. Puppy ears when you lose RPS + corresponding dialogue about the puppy ears.
Eyes give a soft, timid feeling. They are pink/purple. Bunny ears when you lose RPS + corresponding dialogue about the bunny ears.
Eyes are calm. They are blue. Cat ears when you lose RPS + corresponding dialogue about the cat ears.
This is just a few examples we have currently, but imagine what the full game will be like!
Being an artist myself I understand the painstaking hours it takes to do even a single art piece.. but in OO you have a choice to customize your character AND personality. That's INSANE! I don't see a lot of people really talking about this, but it's genuinely so admirable. (Why did you do this to yourself Sourmilk)
Please just take a moment to admire the absolutely beautiful artwork AND MUSIC that's in the game. It's all made by ONE PERSON.
Gameplay is typically pretty straight forward in visual novels. Click to proceed, sometimes choose a dialogue option that will eventually lead you to a bad/good ending, etc. However, in OO there are minigames you can play. Matching game and RPS are the current ones, but SM has teased a lock picking minigame for the horror aspect.
The replayability is already insane for a demo!
It gives the game the feeling of immersion and purpose. Like you're not absent mindedly clicking through options, but actually interacting with Adisorn.
I SAVED THE BEST FOR LAST!
Despite me absolutely ranting and raving about the game what REALLY makes it shine is the dialogue and writing!!
I know the terminology of, "The characters interacting in x feel so natural and real!" but with Online Obsession, thats ABSOLUTELY TRUE.
The text messages between Adi and MC are so authentic and have no difference from how people interact with others online! From the lingo, references, and the drawn out words like "ADIIII" or "bro i know you are" its VERYYYY good.
Not to mention that Adisorn is written so charismatically! Usually yanderes in VNs are written like "iloveyousomuchimsoobsessedwithyouaaaa" and have no personality outside of that. However, in OO Adisorn really does *feel* like a person.
The playful banter, the FLIRTING??? (Bro's aura is massive) I cannot begin to write down the absolute word vomit of how much I genuinely enjoy the writing.
I'm super excited for the horror aspect of the game and how much the writing + overall vibe will change!

On a personal note, Online Obsession holds a special place with me specifically because I used to never draw men or really be into fandoms beforehand. It's why my blog is flooded with Adisorn art (and Mychael from Mushroom Oasis lmao) because I GENUINELY enjoy drawing him. I specifically started to art study the male figure to draw men + Adisorn better! (and seung-min)
On the note of Seung-min, I also absolutely adored My Sweet! Housemate! I realllly recommend playing MS!H if you enjoy the demo of Online Obsession. I had a blast 100%ing the game! (my first 100% btw) It was made by @sourmiiiilk and @ghost-realms
I love seeing people passionate about things they love to do or create and OO has a lot of passion poured into it. Aside from everything I've listed, its another reason why I adore the game do much.
