He wanted to do his hair the same way for the week. :) My little monster.
We have way too many whiners in this country. Stop feeling sorry for yourself. Suck it up and deal with it. If you do not like working on holidays, find another dang job. And while you are at it, go visit some other countries and figure out how good you actually have it.
First day back to the office, after the race. Good thing it is a mohawk casual week. lol. Stairs were actually easy to negotiate, considering I had just ran 100 miles the previous weekend. It was my lack of motivation to do anything, that was painful. :)
Getting the hair ready for the race. A little something extra to draw attention to the Team Red, White, and Blue banners.
My first time over 100 miles on foot. Ultra Centric ultra marathon. Raising money for Team Red, White, and Blue. Top left corner is my Team RWB hoodie. Top right is me and another RWB racer after the event. Fleece jacket we all received. Me and two other RWB runners holding the banner that hung on the side of my tent, throughout the race. My finisher and second place age group finish. And of course a picture of my taped wheels after the event. The really jacked up one was the one on the right. You can see some of the bruising and swelling. The hardware in that ankle cause enough swelling as it is, but 100+ miles pushes it a tad bit further. haha
Look what I found in my box from Zombie Runner today. :) This is about how I will look on the 18th of November.
Mmmm, Lobster! Me and my youngest daughter dressed for dinner, I mean Halloween. ;)
What does supersonic sound like? Baumgartner's Sonic Boom Captured
Make it idiot-proof and someone will make a better idiot.
This is a little game we call "Attack Baby". She gets a good laugh out of messing with her older brother and sister. :)
Dressed for business…
... And business is good.. :)
If you haven't read my post (it's a long read but well worth it) about my kids breaking the Red Bull Stratos record, the day after Felix and the Red Bull team. Last week someone from Red Bull contacted me about the story and pics. And today, we got a cool package in the mail today. Here are the pics autographed by Felix Baumgartner. I think it makes extra cool that they printed out the kids' pics and signed those. Also in the package was 2 copies of the Red Bulletin that covers the mission along with 3 personal notes from the guy I spoke to at Red Bull. All 3 pics were autographed but the one with both Professor Taylor and Little Kenny, before the launch, says "You Next Bro"..haha.. And the one where Little Kenny nailed the landing says, "You Rock".. Very cool. Red Bull made my kids super happy today.---Just wait for the kids next adventure when they go after Jeb Corliss and his "Grinding the Crack" video / jump. :)
Every effort counts!
Exactly! The first step is always the hardest.
As I get closer to a big event, be it the Ironman, an ultra, or any other event that I know I will be mentally / physically tested, I like to pull up a few videos on Youtube. This is one of those motivational videos. I had the honor (haha) of getting my rear handed to me for 48 hours against this guy. Actually, I shouldn't say "against" this guy. Like most things I do, I do them to test myself. You have to run your race, not others. Had I tried to keep up with him, I would have imploded about mile 5. Ok.. just kidding... mile 2. haha. When you hear him say "Show no weakness", he means it. For the first 24 hours of the event, his eyes were focused forward and I am not sure his facial expressions changed the entire day. (2 mile loop, so you see each other a lot..as he laps you.haha) He was like a machine. He injured himself in the first 24 hours and because he couldn't switch his miles from the 48 hour event to the 24, he kept running. Talking to the doc at the race, he said that he was running with something that would have most people curled up in a fetal position and crying. Injured, he still threw down 204 miles in 48 hours. What I find so cool about him is not all the Ultra events or being a Navy SEAL, it's the fact that he is a down to Earth great guy. After the race, he sat there and talked with my brother and I like we had known each other since we were kids. He is one of those rare people that you meet in life that are nice as can be, until they flip that switch, then it is "GAME ON!" It would be great to see him at another event in the future. Hopefully, it's not while he is at his day job. If I had a dollar for every SEAL that fast roped into my back yard and double tapped my dog, I would be rich. :)
I bought a pair of these about a month ago. They felt fine in the store, but when I took them out for a short run the other day, I could feel quite a bit of pressure on the outside of the right foot. Considering how much my feet will swell during an upcoming event next month, I decided to trade them for a larger size. Plus, I plan to wear thicker socks, which would not have worked with the current size.
In the past, I have taped parts of my feet / toes on longer events, so the increased size will help this as well. With all the projects at work, I have not put down the amount of miles that I would have liked.. so we will see how well this turns out. It will be my first long event since getting a cool metal upgraded ankle. I am sure this will cause more swelling as the event goes on, but hey.. that is all part of the fun. Test your body and mind. How far can you take it that day? If your head is in the game, you mind will take you much further than your body wants.
Lets see how well these do for the next month and then during the event. This will be my first 72 Hour race. So, they will be tested a lot over 3 days. :)
