âyouâre my best friend, now iâve got no one to tell iâve lost my best friend.â
âŚ.
nothing is as painful as losing a friend who feels like a soulmate except for reminiscing on it years later and realizing as more time passes it becomes more and more likely they truly are gone from your life for good except for the bittersweet memories that will haunt you forever
i think there's something especially tricky about ending a friendship when the other person still cares for you but doesn't treat you right. it's easier to cut ties when you know they hate you or always wanted to put you down, but when you know they still care? and that they're just a really shitty friend? then *you* have to be the adult and the one who walks away.
you have to keep reminding yourself that going back to them won't suddenly make everything that went wrong right. and if you walked away because of something they didâthe final strawâyou being the one to take the first step to rekindling the friendship is still putting all of the work on *your* shoulders, even though this should have never been your responsibility to begin with.

House zine! Words from anything by adrianne lenker
âPerhaps you have forgotten. Thatâs one of the great problems of our modern world, you know. Forgetting. The victim never forgets. Ask an Irishman what the English did to him in 1920 and heâll tell you the day of the month and the time and the name of every man they killed. Ask an Iranian what the English did to him in 1953 and heâll tell you. His child will tell you. His grandchild will tell you. And when he has one, his great-grandchild will tell you too. But ask an Englishmanââ He flung up his hands in mock ignorance. âIf he ever knew, he has forgotten. âMove on!â you tell us. âMove on! Forget what weâve done to you. Tomorrowâs another day!â But it isnât, Mr. Brue.â He still had Brueâs hand. âTomorrow was created yesterday, you see. That is the point I was making to you. And by the day before yesterday, too. To ignore history is to ignore the wolf at the door.â

my knight you have to live you have to get up you have to put your hand over your wound and hold it there. you have to keep walking and walking and walking because you cannot lay down yet, itâs not time. wipe the blood off your breastplate and look up into the sun. lean on your sword if you need to. lift one foot after another. get up. get up. this would be a pitiful grave.
