Tentoonstelling der Nagelaten Werken van Vincent van Gogh, Amsterdam 1892, a rare catalogue with a Symbolist lithographed cover by Richard Roland Holst 1892. This catalogue was issued in Amsterdam in 1892 as a memorial for Van Gogh who died two years earlier, the sunflower being van Gogh’s favorite subject.
In this lithographed cover Roland Holst depicts his view on the artist Vincent van Gogh, personifying him as a sunflower. Turned away from the setting sun, the wilting flower symbolises the untimely death of Van Gogh, the halo referring to the artist’s saintly status.
