man its been a while since i've drawn these three
What did Brioche's training under Andromeda's tutelage consist of that made him the strong big guy he is today? Was his weight gain a part of it or was he already big prior to his training?
prior to his training brioche was pretty skinny, and during it he ate a normal amount. He wasn't getting regular meals before. his instinct lets him bodybuild easily without changing any eating habits if he doesnt want to, so he just over time started getting bigger partially because he associates size with strength and his powerset facilitates that.
and the way Instincts work is that theyre a power that the user expresses through techniques they create- Andromeda has martial art forms she teaches, but Brioche has to make his own techniques to use his own strengths effectively. He can't use her Special Moves but his Normal Moves might resemble hers. and if Andromeda is a Technique Fighter, Brioche is a Power Fighter and Shepard (would be) a Speed Fighter (as far as their general fighting styles and aesthetics go)
to be fair the training did at least partially consist of stereotypical shonen anime stuff like carrying buckets of rocks (brioche is from a mining town so hes used to that) and meditating under a waterfall and stuff like that.
Does the toggle-able-ness of Brioche's ability have to do specifically with its body-focused aspect? Or is that a separate factor?
unknown, but its a likely element to it
What is Brioche's height and weight? Also, does he see himself getting bigger in the future or is he content with how big he already is?
i dont have a specific number, cause people look very different even at the same weight. he's probably over 400 pounds tho. for our purposes hes "heavier than all the not-specifically robotic characters" so hes got high launch distance and low jump height like smash bros
also like. while he's still going around doing actiony things he's fine with his current height and weight, but if he didnt have to worry about that he'd get as heavy as he wanted or as small as he wanted. his Instinct lets him gain and lose weight super easily, even without eating or exercising, so its really whatever hes most comfortable with. it can also manipulate his height but he doesnt know how to do that yet, and it'd require active energy expenditure on his part to maintain.
if you got him relaxed, retired, and in a relationship with someone who was super into fat guys idk how big he'd get. he definitely likes being a bhm, but this is a sci-fi shonen, not a gainer fic, so dont expect it to come up on-page
You say that Lou provides a necessary counterbalance to Shepard's POV, but from what little I've seen, Shephard does what he wants without taking Lou's advice or concern into consideration, even establishing dominance when Lou tried to talk him into giving up his quest because of all the trouble, and Lou saying that he's becoming more like his mother. Is their friendly relationship becoming estranged? As his Droite, can Lou even do anything anymore other than obey Shepard and his family?
yeah, unfortunately Lou hasnt had much screentime with shepard when Shepard isnt Trying To Do A Crazy Thing, so it doesnt feel like Lou can really do much. They need more time together but not in a transactional kinda way.
and yeah, I'd say Shepard and Lou have a somewhat estranged relationship right now. Technically a Droite is a trusted Capo (to use more standard mafia terms) that functions as an advisor and assistant, and would usually have his own stuff to manage. Shepard doesnt really have any stuff to manage other than this crazy run away attempt, so Lou is kinda left without much to do. Shep's a mafia prince in training, and Lou is a right hand minion in training, basically.
How old were Lou and Shepard when they first met?
It was on Shepards 6th Birthday! Lou was introduced to him as his Droite (right-hand man), which means that Shepard might not have many great ideas on what constitutes standard Friend Behavior, as his primary peer is also a mafia kid who has had to do what Shep tells him to the entire time they've known each other.
Lou's parents are also Capos in the Famille Tournesol, but they're not quite as opulent about it. Lou got sent to the same elite school as Shepard, but he had much more of a middle-class upbringing outside of it.
One of the things Shepard really values about Lou but doesnt quite realize is the fact that Lou provides a necessary counterbalance to his pov, and also introduces him to cool stuff he wouldn't have otherwise known. So, all in all, Lou is actually a pretty good counterpart and Droite for Shepard, even if Shepard running away turned into a fiasco due to Wandering Kung Fu Experts picking up Shep like a hitchhiker
Hello! Love your comic! Brioche is my all-time favorite character! I just LOVE big teddy bear characters like him! I wanted to pick your brain about his origins, mostly his weight gain. Here are my questions for now: How did Brioche get so hugely fat after being saved by Andromeda? When did he start gaining weight, how long did it take him to get that big, and what were his reasons behind doing so? Also, what all does his Instinct do aside from making his body rubbery?
hey thank you!
When Brioche met Andromeda he was on the tail-end of a traumatic experience, and came to associate hunger with powerlessness. His Instinct's ability is more than just rubberiness- its essentially the ability to make his body behave how he wants it to, and if he wanted Brioche could use it to disguise himself, heal quickly or even regenerate limbs if it came down to it. Therefore he actually gained a lot of weight really quickly (lets say it was over the course of a year or so) because he didn't want to feel powerless anymore and his Instinct helped enable that, even subconsciously.
Brioche's Instinct is also toggle-able. Basically, it stays on unless he turns it off, even if hes knocked out or goes to sleep. This is actually a very rare trait, and has helped him win fights before, given that most other Instinct users need to declare when using theirs. A common strategy is to blitz someone before they can actually say Instinct and bring their ability out, or gag them.
However, Brioche is unable to use his Instinct to create constructs or projectiles, as it is so closely bound to his physical body- at most he can shape his aura for the purposes of a visual aid but he cant create an attack like Andromeda's arrows.
why does this sound like lush era mitski
Shepard and Lou, on their way to school.
I may or may not have a script for a 15 or so page prequel/reboot of the story...
