But being a good activist I realized "I can't just go around quoting that as fact without evidence" and of course I can't just rely on the comments to tell me that it's true. If there are 4,400 children killed by firearms each year. That's about 85 a week. So to get all 989 billionaires it would take about 11 weeks. Or about 2 months and 3 weeks.
If billionaires got shot as often as school children we'd run out of billionaires about 3 months.
Happy for everyone who likes trans Jax, but goosworx didn't confirm anything as cannon. Like yes it's implied Jax would have transitioned, but we also know Jax abstracted before getting to explore that side of himself, and we don't see it confirmed in leeroy either. But I'm tired of everyone calling this cannon. It's literally an AU. All gooseworx confirmed is you can have your headcannons and AU. It confirms Jax has to not be a POS to other people in order to have the growth needed to canonically be trans, which he doesn't, so he isn't. It goes against his whole charcater. Idk man. God forbid a character be complex and people stop gatekeeping a fictional character's identity.

Jax is a fictional character. Jax is not a real person. Jax is therfore not a real Trans person either. If that's YOUR interpretation of the subtext of a piece of fictional media, then so be it, good for you. Jax never really existed. So STOP policing the fandom by being rude. Stop telling people how they "should" think or feel. Stop shaming people for having a different opinion or interpretation. Stop obsessing over a fictional character to the point you'd let it affect how you treat REAL people. Jax is not trans. It's fun to say he is, it's fun to think he is, it's fun to gender swap Jax, and yes there's a lot of subtext implying he could be one day, or there's a an equal amount of subtext just trying to say Jax is serving baby girl.
That's why it's called subtext, it's not explicit, it's not literal, it's just a metaphor. Real human Jax is presented to us, the audience, as a "dude" in the real world context. We don't get to know if he ever explores beyond that, and frankly it's not your fucking business and y'all are being gross for forcing that identity on him just because you heard a song use a pronoun. But to be clear I don't care if you love the idea of trans Jax, that's cool, but stop policing others! Stop saying it's the only way! Stop being fucking inhumane and immature about it. You're not winning any prizes by getting defensive over Jax: a not real, fictionalized, character. But you are making yourself look like absolute toddler by doing so.
Some of y'all are being so fucking nasty and doing more harm in reinforcing sexism and gender stereotypes just to die on a hill you built yourself. Jax is questioning; that much is clear in the context. Which leaves the door open for many possibilities for Jax within the subtext. And policing people around SOMEONE ELSE'S identity isn't the ally move you think it is. Stop letting your righteousness justify your rudeness.
Y'all need to stop getting upset at people for not believing Jax is Trans fem. We spent 8 episodes, most of the entire show, with Jax trying to affirm to himself and everyone around him he was a guy. (because it's obvious he's felt afraid to question any part of himself). His entire backstory was that his mom challenged his masculinity by insulting him with misogyny. And we never actually see Jax in the circus or in the real world identify as trans through anything other than subtext, and subtext can be open to interpretation.
What we DO see is a guy who was raised by his mom to never feel comfortable to question any side of himself. And once he gets away from his mom and is homeless for bit, finds some amount of solace and comfort being around the queer community at Zooble's bar that he apparently frequents. God forbid we leave that open to interpretation. that maybe just maybe he learns to not be a misogynist towards himself and is just a guy more comfortable in his masculinity by embracing gender fluidity. Maybe he's bi. Maybe he's gay. Maybe he's a fem alt e-boy. Maybe he's a furry. I think the most important part isn't JAX = GIRL but that Jax = finally allowed to question himself and find his identity outside of his parents influence, and what he chooses isn't up to US to decide.
I think "isn't she lovely" was meant to be tongue and cheek that Jax = baby girl. As in: Pedro Padcal is a man but he's also baby girl. Because Jax isn't being born in that moment, he also literally dies in that moment. It's a double entandra. Yes Jax can be trans all y'all want but stop fucking policing the fandom and acting like the trans interpretation is the ONLY correct opinion to have for woke points. Holy shit. Other identities exist.
Jax is great at representing the Questioning in LGBTQ and y'all are only capable of accepting him as a capitol T. And I find that deeply problematic and toxic from the T community. Like get a fucking grip people... Let the man be a femboy baby girl if he wants to. Let him be an alternative e-boy if he wants to. Let his "secret" just be that he's thinking about being bi or pan.
Forcing fictional characters to be trans and policing others to address them as trans is a really weird hill to die on. (Cough cough Frankie from KOG cough cough) Especially when Jax is not confirmed to be anything other than questioning. Like subtext 100% confirms he never got to question anything in the circus, but through exposure to Zooble's queer bar was able to meet people and explore himself and become a nice young well rounded mail delivery person. But we never learn if he transitions or plans to and frankly it's none of our damn business.
Let Jax be questioning in the fandom too. Female Jax is great but sometimes people DON'T transition after questioning. Sometimes people do the soul searching and end up back where they started and that's cool too. People taking a really hard stance that Jax HAS to be trans, and that's the ONLY interpretation is just Frankie from KoG round 2.
You can't say "media literacy is dead" and "there's ONLY ONE WAY TO INTERPRET THIS" in the same breath and think you're right. Those are contradictory statements.

It's a vehicular metaphor for anyone who feels threatened to question themselves... Jax being fitted with multiple different outfits? Exploring themselves stylistically? Still choosing to maybe still present as a boy while delivering packages to old ladies?
The subtext clearly shows the transformative power of self love and the acceptance of others, into a kinder more well adjusted human, verses the destructive nature of being buried alive in self loathing and rejecting those around you. It doesn't demand you interpret Jax's self loathing strictly as a Trans narrative. It is never confirmed once that "Jax is Trans" only that "Jax wasn't raised in a healthy enough house hold to ever feel safe enough to question anything about himself." And that's it. PERIOD.
"You're secret is safe with me?" What secret? It's not confirmed! He could be gay. He could be bi, he could be trans. He could be a fem boy. He be a furry. We literally DON'T get to know. It's NOT our business to guess and make demands either.
"There's only one way interpret it!!!" is the phrase killing media literacy... stop policing Jax's fucking identity. Stop telling people what pronouns to use. I really need to post about an amazing digital circus spoiler. I can't wait until June 19th like I thought I could and neither could the entire internet. So spoilers below the cut.
PLEASE I'm begging the fandom to leave room for the idea that Jax ISN'T a woman. I'm begging y'all, if you think the ONLY way to interpret that scene is that Jax is OBVIOUSLY transfem then you're part of that toxic chronically online queer crowd who thinks being morally superior makes your onion the only correct way to think; And it's a very dangerous and unhelpful mindset to have that does nothing but harm for the actual queer community.
What if...The point... isn't that Jax is a woman, but instead the point is: he's given the chance to ask these questions about himself outside of his parents influence? What if Jax isn't a woman, but learns to be open minded about grappling with what it means to be a man, or a woman, or a good parent, or a good person? What if the point is that he gets out from under his toxic mother's thumb and gives himself enough grace to just simply not become someone filled with toxic masculinity that his mom and dad pushed on him? Even if he wanted to be a woman, would he become like his mom? Would he be like his dad? Is he like them already? I think these are the real questions.
Because I'm BEGGING the chronically online trans crowd to accept the idea that there can be, and ARE multiple interpretations of Jax that are NOT all about him being a trans woman. If anything my interpretation it seemed to imply that real world Jax (forgot his name) is still a man, just not the version his mom was making him, or his dad influenced. The version of him that ended up in the circus never made it to the queer bar, never met the people he needed to grow as a person. Never had his real humanity challenged. IRL he was finding his way and found acceptance in the queer community whether he was part of it or not. For a moment I thought it implied him and Zooble maybe could've become friends or even dated in the real world. The scene where jax is put into a bunch of different outfits felt to me like "oh okay, he's multifaceted and complex and exploring himself and yet he's still Jax"
The version of himself that he kept locked up the tightest in the circus was the version of himself where he treated everyone around him regrettably, and felt guilt and shame for his actions. All of it a defense mechanism for much deeper shame built on the way his mom treated him and his dad abandoned him. He wasn't keeping his "true girly self" in a closet, he was keeping his fear and insecurities to even QUESTION himself in a closet.
I cannot accept that trans fem Jax is the ONLY correct way to interpret that. YOU are allowed to have that interpretation but it's not the ONLY ONE.
I think Jax having the freedom and free will to CHOOSE how to live is the most important part, whatever he OR she choose for themselves. That we the audience get to headcannon his future ourselves is the beauty in the end of this story.
I think the point is, the circus took that choice away. I think even Ribbit putting a bow on Jax and his freak out afterwards makes my point. That interpreting him as a "woman", right after being very "weak" aka vulnerable was exactly what his mom did to him. Laughed at him telling him he's weak and "not man enough". Those are still messed up things to say to any person cis or trans, male or female. And Ribbit trying to be "accepting" by putting a bow on him clearly didn't help. I think it's still valid to interpret Jax as cis but confused with a lot to unpack and "soul searching" to do but that doesn't mean he lands on woman. I think the song "isn't she lovely" playing felt more tongue in cheek than anything, like reinforcing the idea that "if Jax were a woman that would be okay too and no matter what he chooses, self hatred isn't the answer but self love, and acceptance of others, is the answer."
The song says "Isn't she lovely made of love?" meaning he or she is lovely BECAUSE they are made of love. (Like Steven universe hugging himself in the finale he's lovely BECAUSE he's literally made of love). if Jax were a woman she would be lovely because she loves herself. Which is great! But the scene where he delivers the package to the old lady, implied to me it was still metaphorical, that Jax can still be a man but can still find that love for himself by finding acceptance for others (like irl Zooble) and having humility for himself too. That going to that bar opened him up to not being a toxic man, to becoming comfortable in his masculinity and/or femininity.
I just have already seen so much "you're media illiterate if you think Jax is anything other than Trans >p<" sure if that was truly the author's intent then sure, my bad! But to what extent is art determined by the artist versus the eyes of the beholder? I just love unpacking toxic masculinity in cishet men and think more queer spaces would benefit from having that mindset! Not to cater them to cishet men but to be exactly what they are, open and accepting places for ALL. And I was going to say "so long as you're not bigoted" but no! Even then! you are still welcome if you're willing to learn! because that's the point of creating a place of acceptance is to teach it and model it too!
Instead of what I usually see which is queer spaces enthusiastically pushing people to identify as queer the second anyone does anything gender-non-conforming, (or if the thought of same sex doesn't make you immediately barf you must therefore be bi sexual!!) Or or "if you're not onboard with the trans headcannon in this you must be a terf!! A bigot!! A facist!!" and I find that to be problematic because that does MORE to up hold gender norms than it does to dismantle them. "Oh you're a boy who wears a pink bow? So you need my help to schedule your bottom surgery then?? No sweetheart, this is a safe space, you can come out here. What do you mean you're cis but you wear pink?? Boys don't wear pink unless they're trans." is just how I hear the toxic chronically online trans groups talk with no nuance about anything especially with fictional characters. That's it's: "trans or nothing! There is no other option! It's so obvious! I can't see any other interpretation other than seeing my own personal perspective reflected in the media I consume! Trust me I know trans when I see it! Because I'm hyper vigilant about these things with them being so personal to me and all!" Like yeah 🤦duh. That's why I'm saying you're in the wrong... I know is hard to have moral superiority about all this queer stuff, and still be in the wrong, but it's true.
If you can't handle Jax being a cishet male who finds comfort and acceptance within himself by existing in queer spaces; you're not being a good ally to anyone really. That's all I really wanna say. I think trans fem Jax is totally valid too! and it's also a very obvious intent of the author too! I just also think it's meant to not be clear cut; it's meant to be complex and open to interpretation.
Especially since Jax as a character would still be cis all the way through if Jax was written as a girl from the beginning of the story. If Jax were just a misogynist ''mean girl" trope nothing about the story changes it just goes back to being about misogyny and self hatred vs self love and friendship and acceptance of others. Gender swap every charcater and see if your opinion of trans fem Jax still holds up. I think gender plays an important role in the story and it does require a lot of nuance to unpack everything and we can't do that if "no! there's only one interpretation! Media literacy is dead! Jax is trans!" is everyone's only take away. Because "there's only one interpretation!" Is any oxymoron to "media literacy is dead!" And the irony is hilarious 😂
