I think an important part of why the Absolute line of DC isn't just that despite the universe being darker our heroes need to shine brighter than ever, that the world is against them...I think it's key that they are fucking ANGRY about it.

The world is wrong and they'll make it right, but there's this righteous indignation to it all, how did things get so bad, why did it get to this point? It's the most relatable thing, and it's in all the comics, it's why they all sell, because the readers also ask those questions about our world. And in so, validates our anger.
