Gab raised her eyebrows as she listened, head cocked to the side with interest. “28th? Hmm. I’ll have to have a wonder,” She beamed. “Coffee is absolutely the best though. I’m almost 89% certain that my blood is 30% atleast coffee. Sometimes I think it’s a little excessive but I really don’t scare all that much.” A small laugh escaped her lips.

“I would wager at least 50% of your entire being is coffee. I’m pretty sure that if you had a child it would be some naturally caffeinated little thing because of all the coffee it absorbed from you.” He laughed wrapping an arm around her. “I missed you shortie.”

“I mean– I’ve been staying inside. For the majority. Staying warm and such,” Mocha shuffled her papers together, lines of words scattered everywhere. They were sentences she’d come up with, lacking the idea for a full piece. “How’re you?” She looked up slowly, small smile on her face. Right now she was content. It was far better than nothing.

“I’m alright. Haven’t had to work much so I’ve just kind of been out and about New York. There’s a really  nice coffee place on 28th street. Reminds me of you sometimes.” He smiled, sitting in a chair across from her. The smell of coffee smelled like Mocha, and honestly it smelled like home.

Unable to stop grinning, Misty kicked around as Zero held her waist. When they resurfaced. “And how do you know that I can’t finish the fight, hm?” She continued to splash him a few more times, playfully dunking him under the water. “I’m not going to give up that easily.”

Rather than answering Misty, Zero scooped her up in his arms, spinning her before dunking her head under the water. “Ah but I’ve got you now.”

Misty laughed gently as he stripped and then got into the pool. After a tug at her ankle, she walked down the side a little. “I’m coming, I’m coming,” She sighed and then dove into the pool. Upon resurfacing, she swam over to Zero with a grin on her face. “Isn’t swimming just incroyable? Plus, it’s not that cold. You should toughen up a little.” After splashing the guy a few times, Misty dove back under the water and began to swim to the other side of the pool. A cheeky grin grew on her face as she appeared a few metres away.

“I think you don’t feel cold because you’re just smokin’ hot.” Zero countered, sticking his tongue out at her. Of course he was caught aback as she splashed him. He chased her cheeky grin all the way to the other end of the pool wrapping his arms around her torso and pulling her under the water with him before resurfacing and sputtering. “Don’t start a fight you aren’t going to finish love.”

“Are you going to come swimming or not?” She grinned, leaning on the barrier of the poolside seating. Having been there 10 minutes or so already, Misty had already changed into her swimsuit. “It won’t take long for you to change.”

“It looks cooooooold.” Zero threw his head back and sighed, resigned to his fate. Not that he really minded all that much. “Besides swimtrunks are for pansies. I’m good.” He took his shirt off, shedding his shortls likewise until he was standing in just boxer briefs, before taking the plunge into the water. It wasn’t terribly cold but the change in temperature was still harsh against his body. He surfaced, fixing his hair, and gliding over to where Misty was seated, tugging on her ankle lightly. “You coming or no?”

She grinned to herself as she picked up one of the beers on the table, raising it to her lips and taking a long sip of it. Vidia rarely enjoyed anyones company, frankly it was rare she said she had a nice or a pleasant time with anyone at all. Zero was different though, they had been friends since they had first started school, drawn to each other on a platonic level due to a mutual strangeness and fondness to stand out from a crowd. Kids thought they were spooky, they enjoyed it. “Well I admire anyone who gives it a go.” She admitted. “Never works though.” Turning the beer over in her hands she looked at the brand before looking back to Zero. “We haven’t done this in forever, I’ve missed it. How are things with you anyway? I didn’t think to ask.”

He fiddled with his beer, thinking over his past few weeks. “We should do this more often. It’s nice to get out. Even if you do make me buy your drinks.” He nudged her playfully in the shoulder before taking a sip of his drink. “Things have been a bit weird honestly. Mocha- well you know- the whole loving someone thing still fucking sucks. But she’s her, ya know? She came by the other day and it was so familiar and homey that it hurt. I started dealing a few months back, so money’s been alright.” He laughed a little thinking about it. “Sometimes I get the ones who’ve never tried anything before, and they’re so adamant that they know what they want.” He finished his second bottle, his fingers starting to tingle but on the whole unaffected. “What about you? Break anyone’s heart lately? Or face I suppose?”

Mocha didn’t answer at his suggestion. She knew he would, but it was– The seriousness and willingness that always shocked her. Her mind was so caught up in those thoughts that when the cats came bouning in, she was completely taken by surprise. “Ah—” She inhaled, before looking down and a grin spread across her face. “Miei cari! Mi sei mancato tutto così tanto!” Gab chimed, the Italian rolling off her tongue. The brunette picked Leone and then looked back up to Zero.

“Grazie,” Her voice said gently, Leone scooped under one arm with her spare hand holding the coffee cup. “I– I had to have liked you enough despite the smoking to have dated you Zero,” A small laugh escaped her lips. “The smell is just…” It felt like a safer option to stop that speech there. Mocha drank half or so of her cup of coffee before setting the mug on a counter. She pulled Leone to her chest as Zero wrapped himself around her. “Mi sei mancato… Miss you.”

Zero tightened his arms around her as she told him she missed him. His chest panged- something it really only did when Mocha was around- and it was a familiar sort of dull pain. He closed his eyes and tried to let his body relax- let him have this moment that was painfully familiar with the smell of coffee, the kitten’s purrs, and the feeling of Mocha’s small frame wrapped up in his arms. Missed this, missed her, honestly both were and understatement. Still, he realized he had been quiet for a while, and he managed to muster a few words, his voice low and husky. “I missed you too.” It wasn’t enough, but then again Zero thought to himself, he never really was.

“Well don’t we all, that’s just human nature.” Rolling her eyes at him, she leaned in to his embrace, comfortable with him enough to do so. “Well you know what they say. Everything is about sex, except sex, sex is about power. Men like powerful women because in todays society they are always deemed powerful and they like being dominated secretly or like to control the ones who are dominating. I on the other hand am dominated by no man, I’m a challenge and men like nothing more than a challenge.” She stirred her drink briefly, picking up one of the ice cubes on her straw and dropping it into her mouth to suck on. “I live for the ice queen thing though. I like bad boys though who try and melt me now that is a challenge and I admire those who try.”

Zero just sat and listened to Vidia’s rant on power. A fond smile crossed his face as she went along, though with his head still rested atop hers he was sre she couldn’t see it. He brought his beer to his mouth, finishing it, and signaling for the bartender to bring another drink for the both of them. “You know me, I’m all about the kinky shit. If I’m not being dominated am I even having fun?” He stuck his tongue out at her before opening his new beer and taking a sip. “Who would ever dream of trying to melt such a nice cold thing. Honestly it’s like Frosty the Snowman all over again.”

“Oh no you’re not a twat. Sex crazed maybe, twat, never.” Elegantly she picked up her glass and took a sip from it, running her pale middle fingers around the top, creating a quiet high pitched yet musical sound. Tilting her head, Vidia grinned with the side of her mouth, her face changing suddenly into a surprised yet girlish gasp, her tone matching the expression of her character. “Why, Zero! I am a dream! I am kind and wonderful to everyone I meet, people buy me drinks because I am so lovely because lets face it it’s what inside that counts.”

“I’ll admit to sex-crazed. What can I say I like a good fuck, and I love a great one.” He laughed as she gasped, taken aback, or acting like it. It was hearty and warm, centered in his chest. His arm wrapped around her and he kissed the side of her head. “I personally love the chronic bitch ice queen thing you’ve got going. But I’m pretty sure anyone who didn’t know you here would buy you drinks for two reasons: they have eyes, and know you’re hot, or they have a complex where they like being shut down.”

“That is exactly what you are, and I and all of the United States are aware of it.” Snapping her compact shut she looked up at him. “Besides sex has nothing to do with me wanting a drink…” Her voice trailed away as she watched him signal to the bartender. “You’re a darling, honestly.”

Zero sat on the stool next to her, his beer half empty in his hand. “I deny that I’m a twat.” A smirk crossed his face at her words. “Au contraire my dear, sex has everything with someone buying you said drink. Guys buy you drinks because you’re hot, not because of your.. welcoming personality. And you know it.”

“You look one hundred percent better when I can’t see you. And no I haven’t missed you and why haven’t you bought me a drink yet?”

“V what do think I am some horny teenage twat?” Still Zero nodded at the bartender. “She’s on me.”

Mocha looked up and around the building when Zero set her down, following him inside once the door was open. “I prefer not to resort to physical violence anyway. Words are enough if you use them correctly,” She raised her eyebrows with a sassy tilt of the head, lips pursed. The warmth that hit her as she headed inside was welcomed greatly.

Standing still for a moment, Mocha looked around. It was weird being back in an environment that was his, but it was also comforting. It felt like curling back up into old memories which, at the current moment in time, were the only ones she enjoyed recollecting. “That is very true,” She grinned a little, following him in. “I’m pretty sure my blood stream is at least 75% coffee and I’d be slightly let down if it wasn’t–” A pause. “I forgot how much you smelt of smoke. I mean I hate smoking really, but the smell.. Is you.”

His face turned serious for a second. “I’m not joking though, if anyone gives you trouble, let me know and I’ll make sure they don’t any more.” Quickly his face returned to the grin it had shown before, his eyes crinkling. As soon as the pot of coffee started making noise, the cats came running in, greeting Zero before rushing over to meow at Mocha’s feet. “Leone missed  you the most, I’m going to be honest. He sulked at me for a month before he warmed up”.

He handed Mocha the cup of coffee, before stepping behind her to wrap his arms around her waist. “I’ll take that as a compliment. Like you like me despite smoking.” Zero rested his chin atop her hair, exhaling before asking more quietly. “So what had you on the hunt for me anyways?”

Gab quickly realised that Zero was intending on carrying her the entire way so just got comfortable leaning into him. It was helping to calm her down a little also. The time outside had brought her stress levels right up so just being with Zero and knowing that they were heading back to his calmed her down a lot. Her heart probably wouldn’t stop racing though until they were inside.

“If I were taller, I’d be able to actually fight people. Right now, I can only make threats about people’s shins and knees.” Mocha rambled. “Good. I’m glad you have coffee at least. Some people don’t. It’s a travesty really.”

Zero tried to contain a smile at the image of Gab fighting anyone. “I have faith that you’d wreck their shins and knees though.” He slowed as they reached his apartment, letting her down gently and pushing open the door. “Besides, if you really need to fight someone, you know I’d do it for you. Kick their ass for even looking at you the wrong way, honestly.”

He walked into his kitchen, putting on the coffee, and turned around to face her, leaning back on the counter. “Do you really think that I could not stock coffee here after dating you?”

Startled and out of breath, Stitch looked at the source of the voice. “S-sorry,” he stuttered as he tried catching his breath. “I just…I just finished my run.”

Zero remained where he was his eyes closed and his back to the stranger. “I figured as much. From the slowing down and the heavy breathing.”

“The fact alone that people are intimidated by people they deem to be attractive is ridiculous. There are plenty of aesthetically pleasing people who lack a high number of brain cells are you could walk all over,” She scoffed slightly then closed her eyes momentarily. “I didn’t know whether you would have answered or not.”

Mocha inhaled with surprise when he scooped her up although this kind of action wasn’t anything new. “You take every oppurtunity to remind me of my height, don’t you?” She mumbled playfully, shaking her head a little. “I expect coffee.”

Zero’s breath whooshed out of his lungs for a second. Quietly he muttered into her hair “I’ll always answer.”

A grin spread across his face. “You’re short and I love that so embrace it.” His arms wrapped around her tighter, trying to hold on to her so that she’d never leave. “Of course.”
