Okay, I think this started as a joke post, but it’s actually a pretty good AND CULTURALLY ACCURATE translation?
Like, we think of Shakespeare as highbrow because he’s old. He wasn’t highbrow. If you’re reading the play in book form and you haven’t found a dick joke on any given page yet you’re either reading a specific passage in Macbeth, or you need liner notes. This is in fact pretty much how it would be written today.
companions being “exiled” from the narrative once they’ve been written out of the show is so true holy shit... because narratively it makes no sense for quite a few companions to NEVER cross paths with the doctor again after their seasons yet that is the reality the show itself upholds (because of the reality of showmaking itself)
Exactly! And it's especially true for Jamie and Zoe because the Doctor is so violently written out of their narratives. In Alien Bodies the Doctor has to take an ordinary human with him when he confronts the dead, because if a tree falls silently in the forest and no one is there to witness it, what's the point? "If no one watches, Dr Who will kill himself". The Doctor is a creature of stories, and the sum of his memories. He only exists if his story is told - so if his story is erased from Jamie and Zoe's stories, he can never return to them.
It's distinct from other companion exits because I feel most companions, when they leave the Doctor, they don't stop being Doctor Who characters, so the Doctor can still revisit them. They're still in the same story. Characters like Jo and Sarah and Ace and Martha and Donna and Rose etc continue to have their own Doctor Who adventures, which means they left the Doctor but they haven't left his narrative. It's distinct from a companion actively exiling themselves/being exiled from the narrative.
Especially true also for Amy and Rory. The plot of Amys Choice is a meta battle between two different common dw narratives: the surrealist slow burn TARDIS-bound horror vs the monster of the week, but also the battle between the Doctor's narrative and Amy and Rory's narrative. And after the Angels Take Manhattan yes, you could argue perhaps the Doctor could take the long way round to Manhattan and see them again, but also he can't: Amy chose to go back to Rory, thus choosing to leave the Doctor's narrative for another. She wrote herself out of his story.
And CLARA operates in a different Doctor Who narrative entirely. Feasibly her and the Doctor could cross paths again, but since THE DOCTOR doesn't even know she's out there travelling, it would be difficult since he had essentially been written out of HER story.
The stupidest example of this is Yaz, who seemingly only left the Doctor because Chibnall thinks companions have to leave when the Doctor regenerates for some reason.
So my friend is facing homelessness but was quite pessimistic that she could make up $2500. She thinks it would be, and I quote "immoral to take people's money" because the debt is unpaid bills, rent, and late fees.
Obviously I disagree with that assessment. She's been seriously depressed, anxious, injured (I said hospitalised but she didn't go for fear of the expense, she probably needed it though) after a suicide attempt though she says she actually wasn't trying to kill herself when she walked into traffic out of work from burnout... And more.
However I think that while we might not be able to immediately fix the homelessness issue, we can prevent the debt issue from spiralling into a bigger problem.
If you would like to help, I will pass on any donations directly to her, and I will tag her if I can wrangle permission out of her.
Permission Wrangled... @sufficient-tenacity, she's in a bit of a self sabotage thought loop. So please tell her here that she is deserving of help, and @sufficient-tenacity you're going to take it and not try to convince people that actually it's wasted on you. You deserve good things.

Hey, I'm the friend, I know my account probably has less reach, but Varda is being so incredibly kind to me by doing this.
To tell more of the story, I was severely underemployed throughout most of 2025 and ended up underwater with rent and utility bills. In early 2026 I vacated my rental and moved in with my girlfriend. Shortly thereafter I landed a full time job that was really great until my brain decided to shit the bed on me. When my mental health flared up in February, I lost my job after walking into traffic for the second time in a week. The plan was for me to take the time I needed to get back on my feet for good. I've unfortunately only just recently restarted therapy and gotten medicated again, and I've remained out of work because I'm winding up in death spirals on a pretty regular basis and I don't want a repeat of February. Donating here would improve the chances (though I should clarify, it by no means guarantees) that I am able to remain with her and focusing on improving my mental health instead of having to start back at square one with guaranteeing my continued survival. Maslow's hierarchy and all that jazz.
If you're a TV only Doctor Who fan sad about the recent news of the special being cancelled and want to dip your toe into the wealth of other Doctor Who media out there, here are some pointers that might help <3
Classic Who (pick a Doctor and just start, it's paced differently but trust me it's so good!) - All on Internet Archive (as of posting this)
The Big Finish Audios - Potential Starting Points:
- Eighth Doctor - helpful resource with starting points and listen orders
- Thirteenth or Ninth Doctor Adventures - still currently releasing bi-monthly so you can hop in with your fav NuWho Doctor! (they've also announced a Tenth Doctor series upcoming)
- Classic Doctors, New Monsters - these boxsets are so much fun and were where I started with Big Finish so if you're unsure of the audio format, this is where I started
- Sixth Doctor Main Range - starts with The Marian Conspiracy
The Novels - so many ranges to choose from, get stuck in there!
- Generally split into Virgin New Adventures (VNA) featuring the Seventh Doctor after the end of classic, Virgin Missing Adventures (VMA) / Past Doctor Adventures (PDA) featuring other Classic Doctors, Eighth Doctor Adventures (EDA), and the New Series Adventures featuring nuwho doctors
- Pick a Doctor or Companion you want to hear more from and maybe consult Tardis Guide.
The Comics - again, pick a doctor and eat good
Other helpful resources:
Tardis Wiki (better than the Fandom one)
Tardis Guide (help keep track of stories and where you're going and discover new stories - plus a great community)

So I see you all are exhausted by streaming services effectively recreating cable. I see you’re all tired of ads. Pirating is a great alternative, but I have another fantastic option for you all!
I live in Seattle. And in Seattle we have America’s largest physical media store, Scarecrow Video. They are a non-profit that has pretty much any film or tv show you can imagine. Like, everything. So much so that one of our local cinemas does a program with them called “Unstreamable” where they show a film from Scarecrow’a archive that you can’t access anywhere online. It’s a bit overwhelming to go to their store, which is two levels of every program under the sun.
ANYWAY, I bring this up because they recently started a Rent-by-Mail program. It’s pretty similar to what Netflix used to do. You can rent up to six titles (barring their super rare stuff and pornos) and they will ship it to you, then you return it in the included pre-paid envelope.
Why does this rock? Sure, you still have to pay money, BUT you are supporting a non-profit that is dedicated to preserving media instead of some corporation looking for endless profit. They can also expand your palette with their vast selection. And if you have a favorite piece of media, you never have to worry about it disappearing! All their stuff is there in perpetuity.
So this is all to say, now that Scarecrow has expanded their reach beyond the Greater Seattle Area, I implore you to check them out. If you don’t want to rent right now, the could always use donations to keep them afloat.
For all the people who were looking to get into either dc or dp and didn't want to pay the full price to get the rare stuff, behold: an easy way to sample series and episodes and at little personal cost to you! They have a whole comics section.
I wanna figure out what drives people mad about Batman Animated now please and thank you
hello, i’m not sure if anyone will see this but i am in need of a lot of help right now and i’m not sure of who i can ask for it, so i’m kind of using tumblr as a last resort i suppose. i feel like no one in real life understands or cares when i talk about it or i’m being annoying.
i’ve been struggling significantly with my walk with Christ lately. i keep relapsing into a horrible addiction, my speech has been more vulgar the past 3 months, i’ve just been incredibly overwhelmed with hate, i keep wanting to contact and dreaming of my abuser and a lot of hardship has happened. my grandmother died, my mothers health has been horrible due to cancer, i’m losing multiple friendships, and i feel like i have no one, not even Him. i began to follow Him because when i started digging into the word more the horrible depression i had at the time went away, but now it’s just worse and it’s made me disheartened. i see no purpose in living right now.
i still love Him and want to follow him but i feel so disheartened and i don’t know why everything seems to hard right now.
i’m sorry if this is silly sounding or whiny but i’d really appreciate prayers of some sort for my faith, for my life, and for me to repent. all i can think about is wanting things to get better.
I reblogged it earlier but I'm glad the Something Awful Forums 9/11 thread was archived because it's an incredibly important slice of internet history. For the record I think 9/11 was thousands of personal tragedies for the direct victims of the attacks but one big national farce that led to America's ongoing slide into fascism, and the nationalism and remembrance around it is a joke especially in the wake of the same amount of deaths every fucking day in the US during the height of coronavirus.
Nevertheless I think it's important that if you do not remember because you were too young or just didn't exist on Sept 11, 2001 to read the Something Awful 9/11 forums to get an idea of what the internet was like at the moment when America changed to 24 hour news cycles and renewed hyper-nationalism not seen since WWII.
This all happened before Twitter, Facebook, before Discord. Before smart phones. Before most people had cell phones. When a lot of people still had dial-up internet, even. Some people in the thread were relying on radio because internet and TV weren't keeping up.
It was a live event of internet denizens reacting to the biggest national event (and among the biggest international events) of the past 25 years. It was also a slice of what the internet was like at the turn of the millennium. Not only that, but people accurately calling out who was responsible, and what would result before the attacks even finished.
Keep in mind that the links that follow contain images of the event, lots of Islamophobia, people calling for the Middle East to be nuked, people blaming Palestine, casual racist and homophobic language (this was Something Awful after all), etc etc. They preserved the first 17 pages which spanned about 24 hours during the events. It's the origin of the "WATCH BUSH START A FUCKING WAR" screenshot.
Links under the fold. I've also annotated the pages with notes regarding the timeline and any posts of interest. Note the thread was preserved in Pacific Time even though the page says times are Eastern. That's incorrect. Post timestamps are 3 hours behind Eastern Time, which is the time zone where the attacks occurred:
Page 1 - Note the first post was edited to include images of the second attack. The thread started after the first plane hit. Second plane hitting the WTC happens here too.
Page 2 - Poster accurately calling out Bin Laden was responsible at 9:14 AM EST
Page 3 - "WATCH BUSH START A FUCKING WAR"
Page 4
Page 5 - First official acknowledgement it was a terrorist attack.
Page 10 - First mention of towers collapsing at end of page
Page 11 - More reactions to collapse of first tower. People thinking it was a bomb or yet another plane. Rumors about a fourth plane just missing the White House (these are false and predate the actual 4th plane crash by minutes)
Page 12
Page 13 - By this point there's just rampant speculation about more bombs at the WTC, the US Capitol building being hit, etc (all false). Remember this is all just people reacting to TV news and radio and the rumor mill via phone, AIM, IRC, and maybe text messages.
Page 14 - By this point internet news sites are overwhelmed
Page 15 - Second tower collapses. First acknowledgement of the fourth plane that crashed in PA.
Page 16 - There's an abrupt time jump in the threads, I think it was the result of admins pruning the activity or the SA forums going down. This page starts on 9/12 even though it is page 16. American flag signatures and ribbons start appearing.

As more and more people are being forced to switch to Windows 11, Microsoft's most AI-malware-ridden OS yet, I've been putting together articles and links for how to undo the damage and save your battery, your RAM, your disk space, your privacy, and your sanity from this bullshit.
FIRST:
The easiest way to get rid of the majority of the bullshit that Windows is forcing on us, as of October 2025, is this one-stop-one-click debloat solution from a modern day hero:
A simple, lightweight PowerShell script to remove pre-installed apps, disable telemetry, as well as perform various other changes to customi
It's very easy, even if you're not tech savvy or get scared of pop up windows saying "ARE YOU SURE?" Yes, you are sure, I promise. This program takes maybe two minutes and will save you SO MUCH pain, time, and money (and exploitation).
Now that you've done that, here's the cleanup, to catch the little shit that the debloat might have missed (most of this will already be done by debloat, but hey, it's good to double check).
Microsoft wants to put AI everywhere on your PC, but you can take back control.
Even just reading about some of these features makes me angry. Fucking Copilot and "Discover" AI scrapers are in Notepad. NOTEPAD. And then there's this uncanny valley garbage:
No uncanny valley video calls for me, thanks! (Also, what else is it doing while it scans your face and listens to your calls? What else, microsoft? Because there was a lot of memory being assigned to this program for a simple "smooths your skin" add on).
Tired of Microsoft pushing ads throughout Windows 11? Here are the settings you can tweak to turn them off and reclaim some privacy.
The truly insane number of places they have stuck ads on your own home computer is sickening. Become Unmarketable.
Bonus:
Some background programs you probably don't need that are taking up space and how to remove them (Microsoft forums, 2024)
Your Samsung Galaxy Phone comes with 22 apps you don't need (Android Police, 2025)
How to disable the AI in firefox (still the only browser that lets you do this permanently) (Windows Report, 2025)

how to do things offline
either on your personal hard drive (just because it’s an app doesn’t mean the information is stored in your device) or on paper. I’m not saying the collapse of the internet is imminent, and I’m not suggesting we do everything completely without technology, or even stop using it until we have to. (to be clear, I also don’t think the internet will just blink out of existence, suddenly stop being a thing at all; rather I think it might continue to lose its usefulness to the point where it’s impossible to get anything done. anyway) but some people may have forgotten how we got by before the internet (I almost have!), and the younger generation might not have experienced it at all.
I figure most people probably use the internet mainly for communication with friends and family, entertainment and creation (eg. writing), and looking up how to do things, so here’s how to do those things offline:
First and most importantly, download everything important to you onto at least one hard drive and at least one flashdrive! files can get corrupted and hardware can get damaged or lost, but as long as you keep backup copies, you have much-closer-to-guaranteed access versus hoping a business doesn’t decide to paywall, purge, or otherwise revoke your access. I would recommend getting irreplaceable photos printed as well
download and/or print/write down:
anything important to you - photos/videos, journals, certificates, college transcripts
contact info - phone numbers and/or addresses of friends/family (know how to contact them if you can’t use your favourite messaging app), doctors (open hours would be good too), veterinarians if you have pets, and work
how-to’s - recipes (one, two), emergency preparedness (what do I do if… eg. I smell gas)
other things you might google: cleaning chemicals to NOT mix, what laundry tag symbols mean, people food dogs and cats can and can’t eat, plant toxicity to pets
and know offline ways to find things out - local radio station, newspaper, a nearby highway rest area might have a region map, public libraries usually have a bunch of resources
also, those of you who get periods should strongly consider not using period tracking apps! here’s how to track your period manually
free printable period tracker templates (no printer? public libraries usually charge a few cents per page, or you can recreate it by hand)
moving on to entertainment, you can still get most media for free! it’s completely legal to download your favourite movies to your own personal hard drive, you just can’t sell or distribute copies (not legal advice)
movies: wcostream.tv (right click the player) - the url changes every once in a while but usually redirects; I recently noticed that it’s hiding a lot of movies behind “premium,” so it may or may not work anymore | download youtube videos
music: how to get music without streaming it | legal free downloads
games: steamunlocked.net - doesn’t have every game and can be slow to update, but very reliable
Remember that links won't work without the internet, so also write down anything you find useful in this post! You have to download stuff ahead of time while you can still access the internet
keep physical user manuals for things like car, tv, appliances
how to prepare for computer work offline (may need to use reader mode to bypass a popup)
check interactions with any medications you're taking
how to search a library (databases are often accessible via library computers so might still be a thing without internet; also some info on manually searching the actual stacks) (backup rb)
make note of your local/state/federal laws regarding tenants’ rights & housing resources, workers’ rights, gun laws, abortion laws (though this is changing frequently)
How to Download Videos
URL downloaders for specific sites & in general
4k Video Downloader Plus, VLC Media Player, Freemake, YouTube-to-mp4
screencap with OBS (may only work on firefox and may violate ToS) or xbox game bar on windows (win+g)
especially download meme songs that you probably won’t find on a CD (example) with https://ytmp3.nexus/
Print photos with VistaPrint, WalMart, or CVS
Old Farmer's Almanac
Household chores list
Simple household repairs
Loads of old recipes (backup rb)
how to wean yourself off the internet
how to spend time with family
how to get involved with your community
ways to spend more time outside (set a goal/reason to be outside)
how to get outside more in different seasons
how to build nature into your lifestyle

T-Rex Talents is an incredible FX artist I have had the honor of witnessing the work of, who is currently in a rough spot. In his words:
My name is Logan. I'm a 29 year old disabled makeup fx artist. I've broken bones over 300 times and had 19 surgeries. Leaving me wheelchair bound. And needing many medical necessities. And Art as my only outlet from said struggles. Unfortunately I had to relocate to a new state due to family tragedy.
Relocating has caused unforeseen issues. Therefore I do not have insurance that covers all I need for my chronic illness.
Also it's caused me to leave behind all my art/makeup fx supplies. However the main concern is medical supplies. As we've exhausted every outlet for help. Including charities, case workers, and more. My mom is unable to work due to no insurance for home health aids to care for me while she does. My disease causes severe pain every day. Worrying about finances for medical supplies such as incontinence supplies, and other stuff is just another stress. And not having any outlet with none of my art supplies is making it worse.
My dream is to make people see that someone disabled can be successful in the film industry. But I feel like my current situation makes it nearly impossible. I can't afford art materials when I'm trying to afford medical supplies. And not even affording that. There's no help here.

A lot of people on twitter wanted me to explain how I draw expressions, so here you go
Unless you're drawing explicit realism, in my opinion, expressions should be exaggerated to some degree. If you aren't doing a 1:1 recreation, the point is to get the FEELING across. Try making the expression you want to draw and feeling how your face pinches and stretches.
Skin doesn't just "disappear" when your face moves it around --- that's where wrinkles come from! Pay attention to where your skin creases when you emote, and use it to your benefit. It's a fine line between overdoing it and underdoing it -- find your own balance.
Ultimately, every expression has a little bit of push and pull, unless your face is completely neutral (and even then, there are still some wrinkles...). Learning to think of expressions as actions and reactions is VERY helpful in learning to draw them without needing a reference, and in learning how to stylize and push expressions based on references as well!
I think a lot of people end up with stiff or unexpressive emotions in their art because they're just trying to recreate a picture instead of understanding WHY and HOW the face is moving --- and it's a tough thing that takes a while to really pick up and learn. Hopefully is helpful in showing a way of thinking about it that can influence your process and approach to emotions!!!
Also, bonus: even without the lines, the planes alone still show a LOT of emotion.
• A character almost admits they were wrong and then pivots
• Two people sitting in a car after an argument, engine off, neither leaving
• Someone practicing a speech in the mirror and hating how it sounds
• A character lying for someone they resent
• An inside joke that no longer feels funny
• A public setting where private tension is simmering
• Someone seeing their ex unexpectedly and performing indifference
• A character giving advice they absolutely do not follow
• A confession interrupted by something mundane
• A person rereading old messages they shouldn’t
• A gift that misses the mark completely
• A character realizing they’ve outgrown someone mid-conversation
• Someone saying “It’s fine” and meaning “I will remember this forever”
• A moment where a character notices they are no longer the favorite
• Two people who used to be close struggling to find a topic
If your story feels stuck, it likely needs friction. Not explosions. Just a little pressure.
Now that I've posted my intro, here's something that's been bugging me for weeks.
A while ago I had an autistic shutdown, went fully nonverbal and I had just picked up my boyfriend from his house. It was nice for a while, we were at my house having fun with my family and when it was time to bring the dogs outside to do their business, he slapped my ass. Prior to this he kept asking and asking saying "C'mon, only once!" And I kept shaking my head no, but as I got up he did it and all I could do was stare in horror. He didn't seem to take me seriously, giggling and saying "What? I had to." As if it was a quota he had to hit. I've let him to this every weekend he came over and the one time I told him I didn't want him to, he did it anyways. I'm afraid to speak up, he did it again as recently as a few days before christmas and I'm just too scared to do anything about it. I'm growing a resentment to him and haven't allowed him to come over or have had excuses as to why he can't and.. I just don't know what to do anymore. We've been dating for around 3 months by now and I'm unsure if I even love him till he says something even remotely affectionate. He's hypersexual and I think im demisexual? Due to trauma I may be hypersexual as well, but I don't want this anymore. This has been eating me from the inside, I can still feel fear everytime I think of standing up when he's around because there's a high chance he's just gonna slap it and I can't tell him off or I'll make a scene.
It obvious by the post that you know this but that's not okay at all
I am a seventeen year old girl who's never dated. HOWEVER if someone loves you or even likes you, they should listen if you tell them to stop what they're doing. I try to remind myself that sometimes you need to say something at the risk of upsetting them and that just part of being a human with relationships. If I were you (though I am actually a seventeen year old with no dating experience) I would wait until you have the energy for a conversation like that and text
If he can't listen to you about this it could be an early relationship red flag
Im just very, very nervous to. After my last relationship (might vent about it here another time), boundaries with romantic partners have been.. hard. I know it's bad. I know I should be better, but I don't know if I want to. I don't want him to freak out over the times he's touched me, unknowingly making me uncomfortable, but I also really care about my own wellbeing. I've found it better to just distance myself a little from him, seeing irl every few weeks or on holidays like valentines Hell, we only vc with friends, and even that isn't very common. I know it's horrible, I'm very self-aware, but it works best right now. We just got together, and I really want this to work out between us. Then again, I don't know if I have that level of emotional investment to stay with him and keep us happy.
I'm just very lost and don't want to act out of fear.
It's harder than it seems from the outside to talk to people, i guess. He clearly doesn't mean any real harm by it and I think he may just not be paying attention or something like that. But guilting yourself over not starting the conversation even if you know you should only makes it harder to start it in the first place. Please be nice to yourself and remember it's ok to take it slow with these things
