American Psycho video essay update:

I wrote more of the script and got to look at the page count because I write on my phone and computer, depending on my free time. It’s currently five pages. I put down all major points and quotes that I needed, but I wanted to add more detail so it’s going to be longer than that. It’ll take some time to complete because of research I need for some things.

I’m very excited about it, though! I haven’t video edited in a long time, but the visuals won’t be complex.

I’ve been bouncing around some American Psycho video essay ideas for over a year now. School has very much gotten in the way. I’m gonna have some free time cleared up when my 8-week summer semester finishes. Could anybody pick which one sounds the most interesting? I don’t know if I’d have time for all three.

I haven’t finished chapter 5, but, like

Can we agree that Asgore was deeply in love with the light world Flowery? It gives the strong vibe that he was, but didn’t want to face it.

(If I play more and it turns out that Flowey wasn’t a product of it being Asgore’s dark fountain world ignore this shhhh)

Something I think could’ve been interesting and relevant to incorporate is religious practice in hell. Sure, a ton of people would stop being religious if they found themselves in hell, but you’d think some people may believe the punishment was deserved or that they might still have a chance to get to heaven. I don’t understand why religion in general isn’t covered in depth? The story is about redemption, which is a major thing in Christianity.

Alastor was a big one for me. Alastor was very obviously inspired by Dr. Facilier, but I held out hope before the first season was released that him being religious (voodoo, which is a spiritual belief beyond rituals) could’ve been explored more. If his magic is able to work, wouldn’t that mean he follows a religion that turned out to be true? However, Alastor is content with being in hell, regardless. And isn’t that idea fun? Alastor killing because he felt the need to “carry out justice” himself and those people got to suffer consequences after they died. His actions were objectively horrible, but he still felt the person’s sins outweighed the act of killing them. The situation went exactly how he wanted it to in the end, so he continues to be religious. I think that a strong sense of justice as a motive is much stronger for characterization and would’ve been a better choice than killing for the sake of killing to build up intimidation. Killing by itself doesn’t make a person scary!

A fun concept that would’ve been a completely different story is if Charlie’s emphasized trait is her being non-human.

Charlie’s design could be kept and could signify that she is trying to relate to humans but doesn’t understand them. (Personally I’d keep the theme of a humanoid object and do something different, but still-) It could be a way to explain why she doesn’t know how redemption works without writing her as childish. I really wanted her to be written as old as she actually is! Charlie could be able to read situations, but overcorrects when putting trust in people. Another reason could be how extremely different her life is. She lived longer than any human, never had typical growth/change experiences, and never lived in the mortal realm. This information should inform all interactions she has with characters. I think it would also be why so many people didn’t take the hotel seriously or thought it was for something else! What would a demon know about humanity and being good? Charlie could have a moral system that is drastically different and may have committed a lot of bad things in the past, but tries to be better. I think it would be fun to write her as very off-putting but well meaning because she doesn’t know how to be good from the standards of everyone else.

Maybe a bulk of the story could be about Charlie building the hotel and attempting to learn from humans about how to make it work. The beginning portion could be a test for the real thing, but the guests unintentionally learn more about themselves along the way.

lowkey wonder what parents who showed their kids tadc felt watching the show with them. and by kids i mean like elementary school age not middle school or high school.

idk like tf you mean you're ok with your preschooler watching a show that has a character openly wanting to have sex and someone joking about another character telling someone to kill themselves?

i wouldn't describe tadc as a mature show in a million quadrillion morbillion years (it ain't liveleak or anything), but it has some parts that make me reallllllly side eye some of those parents.

i'm super picky cuz i'm one of those peeps who was raised online with zero supervision. i don't think tadc is gonna scar any of them kids, but i do think that when they get older and rewatch the show for nostalgia, they'll wonder why their parents treated tadc like a bluey or blue's clues kind of show.

i do get the confusion though. aside from a few goddamns and shits, what about the show tells you it ain't meant for children?

Definitely, this would be a terrible choice for a kindergarten or elementary school age child. This is pessimistic, but I’m gonna presume that those children mostly see a lot of Amazing Digital Circus content farm videos when their parents aren’t supervising their tablets. I wouldn’t be shocked if the parents never actually watched the show. (I know my parents didn’t with some of the crazy shit I was watching at that age LOL) It’s most certainly nothing on the level of something like Happy Tree Friends, but still-

Regardless, Gooseworx said that when the show “crossed some kind of line” parents would end up complaining if she said it was for kids? Honestly, I wouldn’t tell people what age range it was for! I’d give the content warnings at the beginning of the episode and let people decide from there. If the parents complain, that’s their problem because it had warnings and was never described as a children’s show.

I loved Amazing Digital Circus overall, but I don’t think it should be considered an adult cartoon. Maybe something rated for teens? Nearly all of the swears were censored and there wasn’t really any physically graphic content.

I heard it was for adults going in, so I was expecting a later episode that more strongly references I Have No Mouth. For example, I thought there was going to be a reveal when I was watching early on that they need to die to escape the circus. It would be just like the scene in the short story where they all kill each other. Or maybe some general gore after Caine turns against the humans, like someone getting skinned alive or something.

Honestly, Narancia’s death made me feel the most sad out of all of the character deaths in Golden Wind.

Narancia had a series of horrible circumstances and it didn’t get better. He didn’t have an education past elementary school, his mother died, he was homeless, he got framed for a crime he didn’t commit, and got physically assaulted during his sentence. All of this happened and he was still a teenager. It seriously didn’t feel like Narancia had a chance because of how so much of that was outside of his control. Sure, he found a family with Team Bucciarati, but that was a job with the mafia. Narancia should’ve been in school and in a safe environment. He shouldn’t have needed to worry about killing people and if he’d get killed!

While the topic is on my brain and Hazbin Hotel getting renewed for three more seasons,

I’m not bothered that Valentino has relationships that he is genuinely invested in and is also an abusive piece of shit. He can be caring towards someone, but just chooses not to. I think it emphasizes how awful Valentino is with how he could categorize someone as “an equal worth respect” or “piece of meat I own”. Would the show explore that? I’m not sure.

Mind you, I’ve only seen the anime version, but Golden Wind would’ve been more interesting if Giorno was a vampire:

This adds to how Diavolo and Giorno compare as characters. Diavolo wanted to move on, but is so fixated on his past. Destroying all evidence of himself can be explained by not wanting to be attacked by people trying to usurp him, but it’s clearly so much more. Both characters assumed a new identity and left everything behind, but they treat it differently. Diavolo was trying to erase himself and destroy everything, while Giorno carved out a new identity and wanted to reform. However, Diavolo was capable of growing and Giorno is physically frozen in time but persists. It’s a contradiction but speaks to Giorno’s strength.

I think that it could also be used to explore Giorno as Dio’s legacy. Dio rejected humanity and Giorno could embrace humanity despite his situation. An added element to Giorno could be unnaturally extending life. What if Giorno is lonely and wants to keep people, but struggles with how brief it is compared to his immortality? His character arc could be learning that while things can be great, it eventually needs to end. Given that Giorno and Mista are the only survivors from the original group, there’s plenty of places to explore that. Bucciaratti being revived from the dead could be kept in!

It would be an entirely different story, but Golden Wind also needed some more to it.

I'm sad that there are no Diavolo-centric fanfics about Diavolo being anxious/paranoid/agoraphobic (or at least I'd think he is?). Because he is objectively and it's important to his character.

I don’t feel like I’m going against the grain here, but I think Diavolo smells terrible. He comes across as a person who doesn’t take care of himself, so Doppio is the one who cleans for both of them. I wouldn’t be shocked if Diavolo cuts/dyes his hair, but I also don’t think he washes it often.

This isn’t the case, but I’d love it so much if Secco was normal but is extremely committed to roleplaying as a freaky dog person.

I’m not ignoring the part where Secco said that he only stayed with Cioccolata to benefit himself. I’m specifically meaning if Secco had normal speech patterns/word recall and does not impulsively eat dirt. Yes, even the sugar cubes thing being roleplay. We’re talking if Secco were suddenly standing up completely straight and was wearing clothes.

I’d like to think that Diavolo isn’t cis, but he’s so focused on the whole “taking over the world and erasing every connection to himself from existence” thing that he’d never figure it out.

But it also would be fun if Doppio were the one to question it, forcing Diavolo to think about it.
