A Species Dysphoria Website We Wished Existed
You know what resource website we think would be really useful for the community?
An in-depth website dedicated to species dysphoria: what it is, ideas on how to deal with it, current academic research into it, printable documents or pamphlets for mental health providers, etc. Maybe it could be like a wiki to make it easier for people to add things or whatnot.
Imagine it having lists upon lists of brainstorming ideas things that might alleviate species dysphoria separated into categories. Even a category listing different types of body that are currently possible (pointing ears, tongue splitting, etc) listing general information and how the end result can look like. Examples of small reversible body modifications like cutting nails to make them more pointed, etc. Categories about different types of gear beyond just tails (claw fingernail rings, elf ear cuffs, wing shawls, etc). Pros and cons or things to look out for when buying things made out of real verses fake fur. Ā
Plus, of course, lists and lists of non-physical ways to deal with species dysphoria. Stuff relating to social dysphoria, maybe a tips and advice for opening up non-kin about oneās experiences. Food stuffs. Outdoor and physical activities (maybe include stuff like a āways to how to walk on all-fours safelyā tutorials alongside hiking and camping advise). Games that are out there people could play that allow people to feel like their flying, hunting, etc.
Lists of academic research that touches species dysphoria. Documents designed to introduce species dysphoria to mental health providers in cases they have a patient with species dysphoria?
We feel like it would be cool if such a website existed. We have very limited knowledge of most of what we feel would be important to add to such a website. But the website idea came to mind last night.

WHY CAN THIS NOT EXSIST AGAHJDBSNSMKSNSNMSKAK
take me down to the otherkindā city where the folks are feral and the dysphoria is shitty
Itās always āwhy did you go out in the stormā and āyour soaking wetā and never How was the storm The storm looked fun was it fun
rb to give one of these to the person you reblogged it from
regular everyday annoyances with wings
Thought this would be fun to make as i often see having wings through rose tinted glasses, but damn would they be annoying as heck to have in a word designed for flightless people
š Shoving open a door, walking through absentmindedly and it slaMS SHUT ON YOUR WINGS
š§ Lying on your back weirdly, getting up to fly and you just fuckin trip and fall cause your wings fell asleep
š¦ Getting embarrased/flustered and trying to hide it but your wings puff up on their own, betraying you
š¤ Going to bed and having a restless sleep, waking up to your feathers matted and sticking out in weird places
š Having to sit in a chair with a backing that goes around the sides, leaving absolutely no way to put your wings comfortably (you end up holding them awkwardly above your head like an angry vulture)
š§ In class/at work, letting your wings droop to the floor while you're tired and being pleasantly awoken by someone stepping. on your feathers. (in their defense you shouldn't have been sleeping but still)
š¦ cARS. need i say more. WHERE DO YOU PUT THEM
š¤ Wanting to wear a certain outfit but it clashes terribly with your wings ):
š Having to tailor all your shirts/tops/hoodies etc. grr.
š§ Going for a swim and having what feels like sopping wet sacks of bricks attached to your back for the next hour, unable to fly
š¦ People touching your wings without your permission. stop it ))):<
š¤ Flying for ages, noticing your wings are starting to ache, and seeing absolutely nowhere to safely land for miles
š Having about 10-15kgs extra to lug around while traveling on foot
š§ Since we aren't shaped like birds, we can't really tuck our wings close to our body like our sharp beaked brethren, meaning two things: uncomfy x1000, and if its windy you're gonna be laughed at by your dumbass friends when you fall over from being the equivalent of a human sail
š¦ Being in an elevator with someone else wouldn't be fun, as you'd take up about 60% of the space instead of 10%, yeesh- awkward
š¤ Speaking of awkward, the where the heck do I put my hands??? dilemma is increased tenfold thanks to the ginormous, feathered, attention grabbing appendages you now possess
all things considered, being flightless sucks ass but whos to say having wings wouldn't suck too? I know being earthbound isn't fun, but at least we don't have to deal with the above ššš
problems grrrr
included a few of these in my last post so thoughtĀ Iād yell about them all here (,:
- walking past a mirror and forgetting your physical form lacks wings
- gesturing with your wings then realising no one can see it
- literally trying to sit in a fucking Ā c h a i r Ā aughh
- wanting to stretch stiff wings but thereās people/objects in the way
- people brushing against your wings without realising and trying to hide your discomfort
- getting off balance and trying to balance yourself with your wings (then falling over lol)
- getting angry n flaring your wings then realising youāre literally just scowling and arenāt actually intimidating in the slightest
- beds?? who invented them???? where are the big round beds?? the little walls up the sides to stop your wingtips from hanging off?? aaaa?????
- having to use a sweater (yes, comfy, but still) instead of just wrapping your wings around yourself to conserve body heat ):<
- putting shirts on feels so fuckin weird urghh sometimes just,, no shirt is so comfy (but if you have an afab body it sucks)
- your wings looking really good but no one notices ):
also asks are now open!! send em in <333
the sequel
- sitting in a car and feeling your wings clip through the walls of said car like a badly rendered videogame
- hold on lemme just. adjust my wings. gimme a sec. iāll get comfortable in a few dont worry. i just gotta find the perfect sitting position in this chair-
- your bathtub is really small so your wings have to be held above you and they get tired and aljfhjsfakfajfafsf
- my day be so fine. then boom. mirror
- wrapping your wings around someone but they dont notice because they cant see them :(
these are too good to be left out
The threequel
-literally cars in general
-when you forget donāt have wings anymore and you try and do anything with them and it doesnāt. Work.
-when you are sitting down and someone steps on your wings
-canāt fly
im sorry they took all of the good ones-
when youāre cozy in bed and you hear heavy rain reblog if you agree
Also kinda sad cause the weather turned pretty cold and bad where I am, which means no woods adventure tomorrow :/
To all therians: what scents do you like/bring you the most comfort? For me itās a mix of pine, lavender, firewood, and books (the latter because they remind me of my partner). What are yours?
Vanilla, when it's about to rain, the general smell of fall.
sagebrushāspecifically large clusters of bushes, their scent caught in the windātree sap, juniper berries, and the lingering smell of ash left by campfires... the one you canāt ever seem to scrub out. animal bones just after theyāve been scrubbed of dirt, and then maybe the smell of soap thatās older than your body is.
Pine/cedar, campfire, rain (absolutely love the rain) and the outdoors in the morning when itās a bit chilly and the air is still crisp but smells damp and cold. Or late nights in the summer driving and it smells like grass and heat and wind
The worst part of human adulthood is being your own zookeeper
Like... i have to make sure my meals are nutritionally balanced... i have to make sure that the space i occupy is big enough, and interesting enough, and provide enrichment to make up for the lack of novelty... i have to make sure i get exercise... i'm not qualified for this
Why would you abandon this in the tags?Ā
Does anyone else feel weird when in someone else's home? Or even a space in your own home that is occupied by someone else? It feels wrong to be in someone else's 'territory', I get this strong sense of being in danger or just very uncomfortable! I imagine it's like the feeling that a coyote would get when on a wolf packs territory, surrounded by threats much bigger than oneself.. that they could be hiding around the next tree. Just thinking about it! -Coyote.living
I relate to this a lot as a crow, even though most crows have wandering territory it just feels wrong and weird to be encroaching on others peoples space ans things. And thereās the element of uncomfortableness and āokay time to leave, time to go back to safe nest and familiar spaceā
You: seeing six crows is bad luck and an omen of death
Me, an intellectual: seeing six crows is great luck because you get to see six crows
*gives you a shiny rock* i love you. *gives you a pretty flower* i love you. *gives you a pretty feather* i love you. *gives you a little toad* he loves you too
