Also I'm rereading Men at Arms and just got to the bit where Vetinari forbids Vimes again to investigate something he really wants Vimes to investigate and then realizes Vimes didn't thump the wall and I'm thinking about how much of Vimes and Vetinari's relationship consists of Vetinari forbidding Vimes to do things, then rewarding him when he does them.
