An Easter Egg you - might - have missed in Black Phone 2
During the first movie, we can see Finney sneaking into the kitchen to get some Apple Mill Mint & Chocolate chips ice-cream, which he later gobbles in front of the TV.
In the second movie, as Finn walks towards a ringing out-of-service phone, there are some advertising posters.
On the bottom right, we can see that very same Apple Mill ice-cream being advertised, the words 'Tastes Great' end the bright, red slogan.
But just right on top of that, we find another interesting poster. There is a female figure. The face seems abnormally white, it doesn't match the neck nor the hand. The eyes are covered by a big pair of sunglasses and the bangs of a shaggy haircut. Lips are thin, barely visible and, although the poster is meant to be a commercial — so its purpose is to encourage people to buy — the person's face is devoid of any emotion. The slogan recites 'You'll know it from the taste', a sort of hint that it's not just the ice-cream's taste that we have to watch out for. That, maybe, it's not only ice-cream that Finn really loves. What catches our gazes the most, however, is the bright green scarf on the person's neck. Green is the complementary color of Red, it's its opposite.
Indeed, the figure appears to resemble some sort of opposite — yet very hinting — version of The Magician Finney encounters in the first movie.
The conjunction of the two images — the beloved ice-cream of our protagonist and the hidden, mystified presence of The Magician — is a very subtle yet efficient way to present to the spectator and important plot point of the whole story:
BLAKESHAW IS CANON!!!
Posters on the left talk about an adventure together and present a snowy mountain landscape, but- hey, Iet's focus on the real deal here!
The way he just patted him and high-fived after the fight > Mason had a funny hesitation because both of his hands were busy.
They're so fucking cute. Fucking love them.
Director Scott Derrickson tells the story of offering Ethan Hawke the role of The Grabber in The Black Phone (featuring voicemail from Ethan)
this.
and yes. it's them.
Can we just talk about the fact that the hole Finny broke in the wall is shaped like a heart?
That's so sweet, he made a present for Al.
ok. are we gonna talk about this or...
no van
van
first of all, Al was home the whole time. Where the fuck did he park his big ass black van with his logo on it??? Second - you mean to tell me, with all the shit going down across the street. at his other house. where he buries. bodies. Al has the balls to REPARK HIS VAN BACK IN THE DRIVEWAY WHERE HE IS CURRENTLY PLANNING WHAT WE KNOW HE WAS PLANNING TO DO TO FINNEY?? With alllll those people (cops no less) 6-8 feet away??
And this is all within 10-20 minutes in reality, all these things, happening at the same time.
Really?
C'mon Al.
Be smarter than that.
