Marceline purred, bumping her head against Karen’s. “We shall indeed! I will protect you and snuggle with you! I love you, Caitline!”

Yumi gave the samurai a slow blink, purring contentedly. “Yes. And I shall follow you wherever you go!”

Ezio and Nari’s eyes glowed as their name was given and bond established. Ezio chittered happily, hugging Marzio’s neck. “Ezio!! I love it! I love it, I love it, I love it!! Thank you so much Marius!!”

Nari whistled happily, nuzzling Sung affectionately. “Such a beautiful name from such a beautiful language. Thank you so much, Sarangerel. I am so happy to be your guardian.”

As Skye wandered around, a large male white dog, a Samoyed, trotted up to her.

Dmitri beamed at Ruslan and nodded, “Then it’s settled, you and I will both be partners in fighting crime! You are my second pair of eyes, Ruslan, I’m counting on you, friend!” 

Karen grinned with happy tears in her eyes, petting her new Guardian happily with a soft chuckle. “I love you too, Marceline, my beautiful perfect Guardian! My best friend in the whole world!” 

Akihito slow blinked in return to Yumi, a tender smile on his lips as he kissed Yumi on the top of her head, holding her close and petting her. “Thank you, dear friend, I know we’ll explore new things together and find new wisdom to soak in.”

Marzio’s eyes glowed when Ezio’s did, and he grinned when he heard his monkey speaking to him in his mind. “WOW, YOU TALK! THAT’S SO BOSS, MY LITTLE DUDE!” he cheered and hugged Ezio with a grin, “You and me, Ezio, we’re gonna rock the world together!” 

Sung-Min chuckled happily as she heard her Guardian’s voice in her mind, a small grin on her lips. She pet Nari softly on the head, “Thanks! It’s a name perfect for a beautiful owl like yourself! I know we’ll be the best of friends!” 

Skye paused when a large Samoyed dog walked up to her, and she smiled down at him. “Hey there!” She knelt down to greet him, petting him on the head, “Wow, you’re a big fluffy boy, huh? Oh boy, I’m not the best with coming up with names, but, I’ll call you...Comet! That sounds like a cool name, right?”

“Yes, now that we have established a bond, I can see into your soul. It better helps me protect and comfort you should you need it.” Ruslan replied, making his way up to sit on Dmitri’s shoulder.

Both Marceline and Yumi’s eyes glowed, making Karen and Akihito’s eyes glow too. Again, after the briefest moment, the glow faded and each Guardian spoke to their new companion.

“Thank you greatly for naming me, Akira. I am grateful for it, and I am happy to meet you.” Yumi purred, rubbing against his legs.

Marceline meowed happily, licking Karen’s fingers. “Thank you, thank you!! I love my name, Caitline!!” she chirped happily.

While they met their new companions, a couple more came forward. Once was a little male Capuchin that landed on Marzio’s shoulder, beginning to diligently groom through his hair. The other was a female Barn Owl that fluttered down, moving in impressive silence, landing near Sung-Min.

Dmitri smiled as Ruslan moved up to sit on his shoulder. “That makes sense. And I will need you as my second pair of eyes, if you’re up for it. You and I could be partners in fighting crime. How does that sound?” 

Karen and Akihito’s eyes widened as they felt their connections being established with their respective Guardians, and both smiled widely. 

Karen grinned as she heard Marceline’s voice, and she picked up the Maine Coon to cuddle her, “Oh, Marceline, I love you so so much already! You and I will be the best of friends!” 

Akihito picked up Yumi, softly petting her with a tender smile. “I am happy to meet you as well, Yumi. We shall be great companions, you and I.” 

Marzio blinked when he felt something land on his shoulder, and he grinned when he saw the cutest monkey he had only seen once on that Friends show. “Oh my God, you look like Ross’ pet Monkey from the show!” he squealed out, “Oh my God, you are so cute though! AND you’re a hairstylist!” he giggled, “Okay hold on, what can I name you, uhhhh...your full name shall be Ezio Fabio Julio Andre Ross Geller Monkey Esquire. Buuut we’ll just shorten all of that to Ezio and you can be mostly named after that cool guy in Assassin’s Creed, eh?” 

Sung-Min gasped lightly and jumped a little when something came flying towards her, but she relaxed once she saw it was an owl. “Aww, you’re cute! Hi there little one.” She pet the barn owl’s head with a smile. “For a name, I think I’ll call you...Nari. It means ‘Lily’ in my country’s language. I hope you like it.” She smiled sheepishly. 

Skye smiled to her friends as their Guardians greeted her, guess it was now her turn to find one.

As Dmitri spoke the name, the raven’s eyes glowed, causing his to glow as well. Then, after a brief moment, the glow faded. Ruslan jumped on to his arm, and a rich tenor voice echoed in Dmitri’s head. “Thank you for naming me, dear companion. You are called Dmitri, yes? Or do you prefer Demetrius?”

As they conversed, a pair of cats approached the group. One was a massive brown tabby, Maine Coon for sure, and the other was a sleek, slim Oriental shorthair with all black fur and piercing orange eyes. The Maine Coon approached Karen first, rubbing against her legs and purring loudly. The black cat trotted up to Akihito, looking him directly in the eye and meowing.

“Ah, there’s your guardians! I believe they are both female.” Genie said.

Dmitri blinked when he saw the Raven’s eyes begin to glow, and he smiled when the large bird landed on his arm. He gasped lightly when he heard that smooth tenor voice in his mind, “Ah, you know of my past name? I suppose you are able to see into my memories, yes? You can call me Dmitri, Ruslan. I am happy to have you at my side, friend.” 

Karen looked down when she saw the Main Coon approach her, and with a beaming smile she knelt down and began to pet the fluffy cat. “Oh, you are a beautiful cat! Hello, little one!” She looked to Genie when she said this was a female cat, then looked back down at her new Guardian. “I have a lovely name for you...you will be named...Marceline!” 

Akihito also knelt down to his lovely Oriental Shorthair cat and pet her as well, nodding as well to Genie once he found out the gender of his cat as well. He looked down to her, “I’m honored to meet you, my new friend, and I will name you...Yumi.”

“It’s more than alright, I’m happy to take you all there.” She beamed, letting Raj down. She then popped her head into the kitchen and let her husband know she was going out.

Genie came back into the livingroom and nodded. “Right. Everyone, brace yourselves. Teleportation can be a bit jarring.” The woman instructed. Then, a whirlwind of silvery magic began spinning around them all, obscuring their vision. When their vision cleared, they all stood before the mouth of a great cave covered by a thick curtain of vines. Genie approached, pulling the vines aside and motioning them inside.

At first, the cave was pitch black, the only light being the gentle glow of Genie’s hand. But then, glowing crystals began to appear. The cave was soon lit with hues of blue, green and purple. It was teaming with animals of all different kinds.

A black shape flew right at Dmitri, landing on a crystal jutting out of the wall near him. It was a large black raven, it’s eyes just as intelligent as Raj’s were. It regarded him for a moment, then… seemed to nod? “Looks like your companion found you, Dmitri.” Genie chuckled.

The six of them stood up in the living room, waiting to be teleported to the place where the Guardians were being kept. They shielded their eyes for a moment when silvery magic whirled around them, and when it was done they lowered their hands and found themselves in a brand new place. They all looked around in awe and excitement. 

The looked up at the cave, and they nodded to Genie before following her inside. They gasped in wonder when the lights from crystals illuminated the dark cave, and inside were so many animals, many of which they had never before seen in person. “This is like Noah’s Arc kinda stuff.” Marzio mumbled out. 

Dmitri blinked and looked up at the Raven, staring back at it with reverence and interest. He nodded back to it with a smile, before he looked to Genie. “I can feel it, in my soul, this Raven and I are connected. It’s a strange but...very good feeling.” he looked back up at it. 

“So, I just name this one, right, and it is mine?” He held up his arm to the Raven, make eye contact with it. “...Ruslan. That will be your name, my friend.”

Genie smiled warmly, nodding. “Thank you very much. My husband and I do our best.” She giggled.

“And she is right, i don’t require payment for Guardians since, well… they’re not really mine to sell. I just know where they are. I’ll gladly take you there now if you’d like.” She offered.

All six of them perked up and they nodded at the suggestion to go there now. Marzio clapped his hands in excitement, “Ohhh, girl yesss~! So hyped to see where the Guardians are!” 

“Thank you so much, Miss Genie, for helping us with this!” Karen beamed to her, “We sincerely and greatly appreciate it very much! We’re very excited to see them now, if that’s alright!”

“I-it’s okay!!! Because daddy said fuck one time and mama said that I can’t say that till I’m older. So it’s okay!!” The little boy said, earning a snort from his mother. She leaned over, lifting Raj into her lap.

“Why don’t you go play in your room for a bit sweetheart, and we’ll have some ice cream later.” She said, the boy grinning excitedly. “Okay!! Bye bye, guys!” The boy crowes, waving as he ran up the stairs and disappeared into his bedroom. Genie chuckled. “That’s Isaac, by the way. My son. Guardians can talk, but they can really only communicate with their bonded companion. When you meet them, in order to create the bond, you must give them a name. Once you do, the knot is tied so to speak and you will be able to hear them.”

Marzio snorted a laugh too, but then gulped nervously when Dmitri shot him a glare, making the Italian shrink down a bit with a sheepish expression. 

The six friends waved to the boy with smiles on their faces, and it was Karen who spoke up, “Isaac is very adorable, Miss Genie, he’s a very polite child!” 

“Hopefully Marzio’s influence won’t rub off on him.” Dmitri huffed and leaned back on the couch, crossing his arms and rolling his eyes. 

“ANYWAAAY,” Marzio glared at Dmitri and huffed a bit, before looking to Genie, “So we name them and then they’re bonded to us for all of eternity? That’s pretty freakin’ sweet!” he grinned, “So uh, how much does it cost to get one? Do you take debit or cash?” 

“Marzio, this isn’t like going to a pet store!” Skye face palmed and shook her head, “It’s much more than that, it’s a spiritual companion that will protect us forever! And considering Don Thousand could be back at any time to try and mess with our Barian lovers again, each of us having a Guardian can be very crucial!” 

“She has a point there.” Sung-Min nodded in agreement. 

Akihito looked to Genie, “So, where do we procure a Guardian for ourselves? I assume they are kept in a very special place.”

The woman chuckled again, nodding. “It’s quite alright.” She assured them. The little boy looked up at his mother, tugging on her pant leg. “Mama? What does ‘shit’ mean?” He whispered. Genie turned to him, ruffling his hair. “I’ll tell you when you’re a little older, hm? It’s a word that you shouldn’t be using until you’re at least 15.” She replied, earning a nod from the child.

“To answer your question, Guardians will live as long as you do. They will protect you for your entire life, and will follow you into the afterlife to continue caring for you. They won’t age much since they need to be able to protect you whenever the situation requires it.” Genie explained, gesturing to Raj who looked as if she was only a few years old rather than hundreds as Genie said.

The fires of Hell itself burned in Dmitri’s eyes as he sharply looked at Marzio, who looked scared for his eyes. “YOU CURSED IN FRONT OF A CHILD! YOU LITTLE--!” Dmitri growled, and both Karen and Akihito had to hold the Russian back from bringing the smackdown on the Roman’s head. 

Marzio whimpered and hid behind Skye and Sung-Min, gulping and looking nervously to Genie, “I-I am so sorry! I have a big mouth and sh--STUFF just comes out without me thinking sometimes!” 

“Calm down, Dmitri!” Akihito insisted, “It was a slip up, take a moment to just breathe in through the nose, and out through the mouth.” 

Dmitri did just that, and he settled down. But he still gave Marzio a disapproving stare for a moment, before he looked to the woman. 

Karen and Akihito released Dmitri when they felt is was safe to do so, and they sighed before also looking to Genie. Skye spoke up when Genie was done, “So, do we choose the Guardian or do they choose us? It sounds like there’s an extremely deep bond there, especially if they can follow us after death.” 

“Can they talk? Does the cat talk?” Marzio pointed at Raj with curiosity.

Please, come in, I’ll explain as much as I can about Guardians.” She replied, stepping aside to allow them all in. In the living room a cat sat on the coffee table, it’s very intelligent eyes watching the 6 enter and sit down. The little boy came running into the living room, picking up the Abyssinian cat, earning a nuzzle and loud purr.

“Schweeeet!” Marzio cheered with a grin, which made Dmitri roll his eyes for a moment before the Russian looked to Genie, “Apologies, miss, Marzio can be a bit of an embarrassment. I hope you are not offended.” He walked ahead along with the others, Marzio pouting after Dmitri, “Hey, I’m not embarrassing, Dmitri! Why ya gotta be so ruuuuuude?” 

The six Nobodies walked into the living room to take a seat, and Karen noticed the cat with a smile, “Oh, what a lovely cat, Miss Genie! Do you have a lot of animals or just one?”

Genie laughed, patting Dmitri’s shoulder. “There’s no need to apologize, dear. It’s alright, truly.” She assured him, walking into the livingroom.

“Ah, this is my guardian, Raj. She’s the only one we have, but she’s been my companion for many hundred years.” Genie explained, reaching over to give the cat’s head a fond scratch.

"She is a very lovely cat!" Karen beamed happily, "It's wonderful that she's been by your side for so long!"

"Hundreds of years?" Marzio's eyes widened, looking shocked, "Wow, you two must have seen some serious shit over the years, huh?"

"Marzio!" Dmitri hissed, "Do not curse in the presence of a lady!"

"Whaaat, I curse in front of Karen, Skye AND Sung-Min all the time and they don't care! Also, screw you, I consider MYSELF a lady too!" Marzio protested.

"Uhhh, guys?" Sung-Min interjected, "How about we save that bickering for at home?"

"Sung-Min is right," Akihito said sternly, "There is no time for that." He then looked to Genie, "Apologies, Miss Genie. I would like to ask, how long can guardians live for, exactly? Are they immortal?"
