I will never understand homophobic people who are ACTIVELY in OPENLY lgbtq+ fandoms. Like The owl house for example- but that’s not the fandom I’m talking about.
A pretty dead fandom (except for a few exceptions) is the Little Club fandom. It’s a fandom about these minecraft youtubers who created characters and made overlapping storylines with each other, as well as solo stories, and was more popular about ten years ago (being most popular most in like 2015-2018) and even then, it had OPENLY queer themes and characters, and spoke about everything in a positive light. And even if characters weren’t stated to them themselves being queer, the members and characters openly stated to be supportive of lgbtq+ people multiple times.
Just to name some openly queer themes that are openly in tlc. (I should clarify that there are probably moments I won’t clarify or don’t know about. I only really watched stuff Little Carly, Little Kelly, Little Donny, Little Leo, Raven, and Baby Leah were in. I didn’t watch every member of TLC. These moments I know of are mostly from the perspective of the members above, or from the love island series.):
1. Queen Sophie (Carly and Kelly’s mum) is CANONICALLY into girls. This is stated in a video title, and in a video aa she goes out with a girl, and Kelly states in a different video that Sophie goes out with multiple WOMEN. This isn’t a debate, it is literally canon.
2. Raven (Carly and Kelly’s half-brother) is implied multiple times to like guys. The way he acts with guys, and especially Leo. He’s flirted with Leo, and even has said things like he wanted to kiss him multiple times. (Definitely a “you just want my sister” situation unfortunately 💔) And Carly has even said multiple times that Raven DOES like guys. And even sometimes talks about how obvious his crush on Leo is. (“Is he actually going on a date with my boyfriend?”)
3. Carly herself is implied to be bi or pan. She’s most known for her relationships with Scuba Steve and Leo, but her relationship with women isn’t exactly subtle either. She’s openly flirted with characters like Little Ally, and other girls , kissed girls, and even has a video titled “Little Carly gets a girlfriend!”. That video ended up being a misunderstanding, and Carly doesn’t actually get a girlfriend in that video, but Carly does state how she wasn’t upset at all about the fact the girl was a girl, but more that she was upset she was lied to. Carly was also (from what I’ve seen) always the biggest lgbtq+ supporter in videos. Every time lgbtq+ themes were brought up in videos, she would always say something like: “it’s 2017, why is this still such a problem?” And just be openly supportive.
4. Little Kelly also has multiple implications of liking women, but way more subtle and in a way that might be accidental. She has also openly flirted with women, and even told a girl that if she was a guy she would date her.
5. Little Donny has openly done “kiss chasing” games with guys, and is stated to have had feelings for Reuben in the love island series.
6. Donut has also done kiss chasing games with guys, and openly flirts with his guy friends as well.
7. Ropo and Scuba Steve (love island) are literally always together, and Steve outright referred to Ropo as “hunny”.
8. Little Ally, AGAIN HAS CANONICALLY FLIRTED WITH AND KISSED GIRLS IN SOME WAY.
The next things I’m going to mention are more headcanons in the fandom, but have some serious backing to them as well.
1. Naomi likes girls, or at least one girl. Naomi is a bad person in the series that she appears in.. obviously written in a way where we’re not supposed to like her, but it is also obvious in the way she’s written that she likes Carly in ways beyond what we’re told.
2. King Tom (Carly and Kelly’s dad). While we’re not outright shown if he likes guys, there’s implications that his relationship with the detective goes beyond just a “work” relationship. And Kelly and Carly have also stated how they think Tom might like guys and get a boyfriend before.
3. Little Carrie ‘Evil littleCarly’ (Carly and Kelly’s sister) Lithromantic and/of cupioromantic implications. Lithromantic is an identity described where someone feels romantic attraction, but they don’t want it reciprocated, as the second those feelings are reciprocated the feelings vanish. Cupioromantic is described where someone doesn’t feel romantic attraction, but has a desire for a romantic relationship. There is a whole video about this with Carrie, where she is preparing for a date, but as soon as the guy starts showing interest in her she suddenly just doesn’t like him anymore. She also states in the video about how it wasn’t fair how Kelly and Carly got to have relationships while she didn’t. It is m implied that she does want some kind of romantic relationship, but just doesn’t get it. (This one admittedly might be a stretch, but it’s still something believed)
There’s probably other implied and canon lgbtq+ themes in The Little club- but this is just a long ended way of saying that the fact there are people who hate on queer themes in edits/drawings done by the people still in the TLC fandom clearly didn’t pay attention to things said or shown in the videos. You can’t say the fandom “ruined” your childhood when we’re literally just going off themes shown IN the videos.
