I just wanted to remind everybody that having a fake service dog is in NO WAY acceptable.
I just went to Costco, and i saw an elderly couple with their pet pug. In my city, Costco no longer allows dogs, only trained service dogs. Their pug had a service dog vest, and i know and hate how easy it is just to pick on up at your local store, Target, Amazon, even maybe find one at the Goodwill.
Their pug was all over the place. it was eating things off the ground, pulling on the leash. the lady tried to pick it up and it resisted, almost making the vest slide off.
it just genuinely disappoints me.
people need service dogs for SPECIAL REASONS!!
you just being unable to leave your dog in a secure place whilst you are shopping is just making you an irresponsible owner. if you are unable to find a good place for the dog, just dont get a dog at all! or one of the owners stays in the car with the dog. accommodate to the situation!
ALSO if other people in the same store have ACTUAL, trained service dogs, the fake service dog could distract it from doing its job!! especially service dogs that are in training. it’s unacceptable!!!
and before ya’ll start saying ‘oh it was probably in training’
gang this dog was ANYTHING but training. the handler wasnt giving ANY commands to the dog’s behavior, the dog wasnt AT ALL attentive OR listening to the owner. the owner didnt have ANY treat pouch/rewards to give the dog.
and its honestly easy to tell if its a service dogs or not.
- constantly look at their handler to ‘check in’
- they are attentive to their owner, such as what they need, where they are going, etc
- in a nice heel next to the handler, whenever the handler is relaxed or sitting down, the dog is either laying or sitting beside them
- they aren’t distracted by people, animals, or surroundings
and a lot more that i dont know because i dont have a service dog….
