Hi?
A crackle of static. How does this thing work again? :: Hey, Kid-! ::
::Hiro..? Is that you?:: Something felt weird, but humans were kinda weird to begin with, so he let it slide.
Hi?
"Will you be quiet now?" ((I regret nothing))
“The only reason I don’t tear your face off is because you’re Dino’s familiar >:[”
“U-understood..”
::Hey, um, Drift. Can we--uh, can we talk? Please?::
«Uh… Sure. What can I help you with?»
He asks while floating upside-down. (He’s still having a blast.)
«No, I don’t imagine it is fun.»
«Probably the best thing you can do right now to get them off your case–all of them–is tell them that you have made a choice, and that your choice is to be neutral. Many mechs on both sides see neutrals as undecided parties mechs who don’t know who to join. Assert that you’re not undecided, and that your decision is you don’t want to be an Autobot or a Decepticon. It’ll still leave you the opportunity to join a side later–both sides are more than eager to convert neutrals–but there won’t be as much pressure if you sound certain in your decision.»
That was also very good advice.
::Not sure about all... Mo--Rodimus might be harder to convince:: Mostly because Rodimus was stubborn and very much convinced that his son should be an Autobot. The whole ‘like father like son’ adage ‘n all.
::Anyway, I’ll try. I, uh, appreciate the advice.:: Kid nodded. ::I’ll let you get back to whatever it was you were doing.::
::Hey, um, Drift. Can we--uh, can we talk? Please?::
«Uh… Sure. What can I help you with?»
He asks while floating upside-down. (He’s still having a blast.)
«… I see.»
It takes him a moment of thought before he answers. Not because he doesn’t know what his answer will be–but because he needs to think how to word it.
«Don’t join the Decepticons.»
«Don’t join the Autobots, either. Neither side is a social club you join to hang out with your friends. They’re armies–and even with the war over, they’re also political movements, with very different goals and messages.»
«If a friend is trying to persuade you to join an army, he’s doing it because he wants you on his side, not because he thinks that side is better for you personally. If you decide you want to join one or the other, learn about them. Learn about both sides from Decepticon perspectives and Autobot perspectives, from neutrals, from historians, from aliens. Not from a recruiting friend who’s going to feed you propaganda and who has a vested interest in making his side look good.»
«If you want to join the Decepticons? I won’t advise against it. I won’t encourage it either, but there are noble reasons to join them, and I’ll respect the decision of anybody who looks at the totality of what they’ve done and chooses to ally with them. But right now, you’re not prepared to join the Decepticons. Just to join Thundercracker’s buddies. And that’s not what you’d be getting into.»
It took Kid some time to process what Drift said, but in the end he felt like the other’s commentary only had affirmed his hesitance. All things considered, the younger mech wasn’t stupid--just young. Really, very young and unsure of himself; he was grateful for the advice, in any case. Something to think about, and put far more eloquently than any uneasy feeling he had could say.
::Yeah.. thank you.:: Kid said finally. ::I. I don’t really know what I want yet. Kind of lost, but lately.. uh. TC’s not the only one suggesting I pick a side, I guess.:: More than a guess, but Thundercracker’s urging was more pressing on his conscious because he knew he’d upset so many more mechs if that was the way he chose.
::They’d sort of. Let it slide for a while, but with, er, my choice of friends leaning more purple than red, Rodimus and Magnus--mostly Magnus--have been asking me about my allegiances.:: Kid groaned. Sorry for the story, Drift, but he couldn’t help himself. You were listening and otherwise uncaring of what Kid did with his life, so. You were the best choice, in his mind, to tell this to.
::It’s not really a fun conversation.:: Not that Kid thought it should be, but it was a little intimidating being stared down by your carrier and the former Enforcer of the Tyrest Accord.
::Hey, um, Drift. Can we--uh, can we talk? Please?::
«Uh… Sure. What can I help you with?»
He asks while floating upside-down. (He’s still having a blast.)
::Yes, but no. I did have a question, but.. it’s kinda personal, and you sound like you’re in a good mood. So, I don’t want to be the one to ruin that.:: Kid replied. Maybe another time? Or never. Kid was thinking never. Just. Something had been on his mind, and it was the sort of something that he really hadn’t wanted to discuss with his own Drift. This one probably wouldn’t be any better, but at least they didn’t know each other on a personal level.
::So? Yeah. Uh, have fun?::
«… Oh.» He held back a sigh. «You’d better ask now. The longer you wait, the more heavily the psychic burden of it will weigh upon your spark.» And the more it was going to keep Drift up at night.
::I know..:: Kid mumbled, very well doing the sighing for him. ::More of a statement than a question, um. Thing is, I’m pretty sure Thundercracker is trying to get me to join the Decepticons, because I’m a neutral, right?::
::And. I’m considering it.:: He added uncertainly, preemptively flinching at any and all backlash that this was going to incur. At least hear him out first? ::Just not sure I should be, because I don’t really know enough about any of it. ‘s the reason I’m neutral in the first place.::
::So--I value your opinion--and. I, um, wanted to know what you thought.::
::Hey, um, Drift. Can we--uh, can we talk? Please?::
«Uh… Sure. What can I help you with?»
He asks while floating upside-down. (He’s still having a blast.)
That was considerably more friendly than he’d anticipated. ::Just. Wanted to apologise?:: Kid said sheepishly. ::Sorta feel like I’ve been a pain. Maybe not so much recently, but uh..::
Well, he’d been hoping that Kid had been contacting him with some sort of official business. A question about whether visitors could use the training rooms, or a cross-universe tip about where the Knights might be. Apparently not.
«Oh.» Drift didn’t know what to do with this. «… Okay. Is that all?»
::Yes, but no. I did have a question, but.. it’s kinda personal, and you sound like you’re in a good mood. So, I don’t want to be the one to ruin that.:: Kid replied. Maybe another time? Or never. Kid was thinking never.
