People who “want trauma” are recognizing, on some level, that they were traumatized but in a way that’s not “socially recognized” as trauma. What they really want is for people to see that they’ve been traumatized and be on their side

I think it’s also important to talk about mental illness, and how the pain and trauma of being mentally ill as a kid is often diminished because of the lack of outside actors. If you spent your childhood being suicidally depressed because your wee little kiddo brain decided to be a chemical shitshow, it doesn’t matter how much mom and dad loved you, that kinda thing fucks you up. And having people only look at your external surroundings and argue that “nothing bad happened” ignores all the pain you went through internally. So wishing you could have something external you could point to in order to justify that pain and enduring stress -- just so people could understand -- makes sense.

There’s a line there that kinda sticks out at me:

“The plan was to grow our money so we could feel financially secure enough to have a baby.”

This is a couple that’s already worth three million dollars. They own their own home. They have a passive monthly income of $12.5k without lifting a single finger, and he can make $30k/mo working for 60 hours. To put that in normal 40-hour weeks, this means that he works until mid-May, takes the rest of the year off, and makes five hundred and sixty thousand dollars for his trouble, on top of the three million they already have and any income she might have.

tl;dr: That’s a lot of fucking money for very little effort.

And these people are scared. They think that thisisn’t enough money for them to raise a child

Capitalism will always keep you feeling hungry and desperate and on the edge of collapse. It runs on people feeling that way, and it will never let you go no matter how loyally you serve it.

Yeah, this last addition is kind of what I was thinking.

Those of us who don't have millions in the bank and own our own houses look at this and find it ridiculous. And it is, don't get me wrong, but it's also a testament for how fucked capitalism makes us.

This couple, with their three million dollars could probably live a very comfortable life with very little work forever, but they're not even remotely close to the big 1%, they would probably never be considered rich in rich circles.

It just fucks me up both that they still worry about not having enough money and that they actually might have a reason for it...
