A great pump up video we used before Northeast Regionals! “It’s not about the destination, it’s about the journey.” *Video by Brittany Bissonnette
We’re proud to share with you all “Hofstra: A History,” a video 3 years in the making!
This is the best thing ever.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p6BKJ_-Y5P8 What do you get when you put a GoPro on a remote helicopter and fly it over a quidditch game? Some totally awesome footage, that’s what. This is from a Lost Boys practice a while ago, but the same guy was taking video at the tournament today also.
This is genius.
A simple shirt to explain a complex sport.
This is the first fundraiser for my new quidditch team, the NYDC Capitalists! Proceeds will go toward covering jersey costs, so I’d really appreciate it if you took the time to purchase one within the next 21 days and reblog this post. Please and thank you!
Hey pretty lady!
Elissa! <3
You probably get this question a lot, but I would like to start my own quidditch team at my university. How do I go about doing that?
Sorry I'm like technologically challenged with some things, and I never noticed that there was an ask box. I came into Quidditch with a pretty established team at my school and I've never been on the eboard, so I really don't know a lot about the organizational side or running things. What I would first start out with is getting in touch with the IQA and a locally established team. Just wondering, what school are you from? On Facebook there's a Facebook page for each region. Join the one that you're located in:Northeast: https://www.facebook.com/groups/272239859509045/Mid-Atlantic: https://www.facebook.com/groups/228169693932620/Midwest: https://www.facebook.com/groups/373285036017695/?fref=tsWest: https://www.facebook.com/groups/14332328691/?fref=tsSouthwest: https://www.facebook.com/groups/324784184240679/?fref=tsThere just post that you're looking to start a new team and where you're located and someone will point you in the right direction. I think that the IQA has people dedicated to helping new teams out in each region, but I'm not really sure. I know that my team, Hofstra, will occasionally host new teams who are just starting to play to introduce them to the game. Then read rulebook 6:http://www.internationalquidditch.org/wp-content/uploads/2012/09/RC6.0RulebookTransition.docx-11.pdfBe a little bit familiar with the rules before you start to play. Also having school support is crucial. There are a couple of teams that are not officially related to their school (Emerson, Ithaca) and they have such a harder time coming up with funds and practice space. Find your student organization that helps create clubs and talk to them. Usually you have to go through your administration, fill out a ton of paperwork, and find a faculty sponsor, but it's different for every school. This is the step that I really don't know a lot about. Then advertise. Get the word out on campus. Post flyers, post in Facebook, constantly bother your friends to show up (that's how I got into Quidditch). Maybe have an general interest meeting beforehand. If you can practice somewhere on campus where people will see you, that's awesome, because they you'll attract attention and people will stop and talk to you.If you don't get enough people to show up to scrimmage, don't worry about it. Just work on drills like passing back and forth. Also, you're going to need to get equipment. You can build a set of 6 hoops for just under $100 and make a set of 14 PVC brooms for about $10 (if you need a hoop design and instructions for this stuff, you can just ask me). Then you'll need a quaffle, which is a volleyball, and 3 bludgers, which are dodgeballs. They're about $8 each. You may need to pay for it out of pocket or have interested players chip in until you get school funding. I think that's about everything. Sorry for probably answering this really late. Let me know how it goes!
CONGRATULATIONS TO HOFSTRA QUIDDITCH FOR RECEIVING THE AWARD FOR CLUB SPORT OF THE YEAR at this years Leadership Awards Night!! Huge thank you to Hofstra and Hofstra Sports clubs/Recreation for helping make this possible! This year has been a great year of many firsts that we hope to continue!

When planning a tournament forgo the merc team. It’s a bad idea and will fall apart last minute without fail.
I would give the opposite advice---merc whenever possible. If they're done right, they can be amazing teams (ie the team I stacked for the End of the World Tournament that came in 2nd and I believe could have taken first if the tournament hadn't gotten shut down before the final).
But more importantly, winning isn't all that matters. It's what you learn from the experience that really counts in the long run and leads to you becoming a better player. The more you play, the better you are going to get. And different people are going to teach you different things. Listen to all of them.
I essentially merc for three reasons:
-I love the game and want to play as much as possible.
-I'm shy, but I really love the people who play this game and mercing with them has been one of the best ways of meeting new people.
-I want to learn. I want to get better. Mercing is always a learning experience for me.
On a side note, it can also open up amazing opportunities. This past weekend, I was asked to merc on the NY/DC team at the Richmond tournament which was the new NY/DC community team's inaugural tournament. It turns out I'm actually going to be in Maryland this summer and next year. I found my new team and I couldn't be happier. They're amazing people (as well as players) and I had an awesome weekend with them. After having possibly the best weekend of my life at World Cup with Hofstra, I didn't want to think about graduating because I thought I could never feel the same way about a team again. I was wrong. Hofstra will always hold a place in my heart, but I've already fallen in love with my new team.
