Enough Is Enough

After having a multi day conversation with some of my white straight male friends about the harassment of women, not just in an isolated industry or profession but across the board, and having other females join me in sharing our experiences with them I refuse to stay silent anymore.

The biggest thing I beg is that when you hear of a woman’s experience don’t immediate take it personal and default to “not all men”. Stop for a minute and think about you mother, your sister, your daughter, your girlfriend, or your wife. What if the story was hers? Instead start an open conversation with them about why it happens and what you can do to help make them feel safe, and change the situation for the better.

I have been in science my whole life. I have been a gamer, from tabletop to consoles and beyond, for just as long. I grew up in a male dominated family. I did sports as a child and stopped because of people. But through all the harassment, discrimination and degradation I refuse. I REFUSE to give up my passion. I’ve developed a thick skin to deal with it but it still rips me up inside. I will not be silent, I will not be compliant, I will not stand by.

If you are in need of ear to listen, a shoulder to cry on, a hand to help, or a voice to speak I am here for you. We need to come together as a community and a society and put an end to this now. It has gone on long enough.

With my ears I will listen, with my heart I will connect, with my hands I will provide help and work for change.

I just saw a comment on a facebook post about rogue one that literally said “I guess star wars doesn’t like male heroes anymore” and I am raging. damn right, it’s 2016. young girls deserve characters like rey and jyn to look up to. rey IS the hero of the new trilogy. the fuckboys can cry all they want but guess what? your misogyny doesn’t matter to anyone.
