began to learn Spanish this semester and I am so overwhelmed. I mean I understand that we must learn all these things fast but boy cramming in all these grammatical rules makes my head feel dizzy. But I love the language so I will continue to work hard ^^
context: so I am a 19 year old college student who, at the moment, lives with her parents bc of Corona. But I have a dorm room in the city where my college is. And I got a notification from the city that I need to hand in some papers. This notification was sent to my dorm so I couldn’t take care of it since I wasn’t there. I got some more letters and finally went to the dorm and saw them. I wrote an email to the city with these papers plus a request to just bill me the first warning since I wasn’t in the city for the past few months.
The city hasn’t answered me to this email and it has been a month now. My parents said that I should just give them a call. Easy, right? Not for me. I always get an anxiety attack if I need to make a phone call (or get called by an unknown number). So when my parents said to me I should make this call, my anxiety skyrocketed and I immediately felt my heart beating faster than normal, my eyes began to fill with tears and my hands began to shake.
Idk why I am this way. I even get anxious getting a call from a friend. And this is stressing out me as well everyone I know...
Omg everyone >…< I'm on vacation with my family rn (camping). My parents are in a caravan and me and my sister have each a tent to ourselves. I woke up rn and the caravan was make noises and first I was kinda confused but then I understood. My parents were having sex... Omg... First I shut my ears with my fingers and then I put earphones in and turned the volume of the music on maximum. But nevertheless I am so embarrassed >…< I never wanted to have this experience ~T_T~ I don't know how to face both of them tomorrow...
Also I don't know if they are still doing it and I'm afraid to take out my earphones.
Today I got an email from my professor saying that one of my exams was cancelled and I automatically passed the course 🥳
I'm so happy rn. Now I only need to learn for 5 instead of 6 written exams ^^
and another good thing happened. One course that I failed last semester (phonetics 😒) doesn't have a written exam either. We just have to hand in some worksheets and then we are done.
As of my other written exams, just two of them are with the use of my camera so I think I got this ^^ finally corona has done something good
Today I had an online quiz about American Literature. It was multiple choice and a friend of mine had to take it, too, so we decided to have a phone call while doing it. Sadly the prof changed the order of the questions so we were more focused on our own questions than on the others. The whole time every time she asked me a question I immediately thought about it even though we had a time limit for the questions and it took away time for me to think about my own questions. In the contrary she told me to be quiet every time I wanted to ask her something. In the end she passed the test with 10/15 points and I failed it with 7/15 points. And I know that she learned more for this test than I did and that she is more of a memorizer than me (I am more fit for finding a structure in things and using this structure on other examples (math equations etc.)) but I am still disappointed because I feel like I was the only one giving an effort on helping. And when I mentioned this to her after the test she got all defensive and told me that there was too little time to think about her AND my questions. Doesn’t she think I know this? I did it in contrast to her! Well all in all you could say I am a little bit disappointed, sad and angry rn and because I don’t trust myself rn that I don’t say anything hurtful if we are in contact, I’m writing down my frustration here to not vent on other people who don’t have anything to do with this situation...
Shout out to all the formerly gifted kids, who are now struggling because they never learned how to learn. I was always top of the class during elementary school and even skipped second grade because I was “too good” and “too bored”. But from seventh grade onward I fell more and more behind, because I never needed to learn before. And now in university I’m extremely overwhelmed with the whole self-studying going on. In German universities no professor will help you when you have a bad grade. It’s your own fault for being too lazy... So yeah... in the past everyone told me that I could be anything and now I’m below average...
Had a discussion with my dad today about how I always sit in my bed when he comes in my room. I then had to remember him that my room isn’t really big and the only places for me to sit comfortably are my bed and the chair on my desk. But since I sit in this chair for over six hours every day doing college work I’m sick of the chair. so any time I want to be comfortable my only option is the bed or the little space in between my bed and my desk that is just floor.
I wanna go out drinking with my friends so bad. I haven’t seen them for over 10 weeks. I haven’t seen anybody aside from my parents and my sister for the last 10 weeks and slowly I’m getting kinda anoyed by this fact. I mean I love the three of them but seeing my dad and my sister 24/7 and my mum all the time she isn’t at work gets really tiring. And now that college started three weeks ago I need something to release my stress (bc let’s be honest online college is so much more worse than real college) but bc of all these restrictions (that I understand complete. I know that they are important don’t get me wrong) I can’t even go clubbing with my best friend or even just sit in a bar with her and some others...
But honestly don’t mind me. I just have nowhere else to voice this bc my family is all about flattening the curve and not doing anything risky. That means that if I just say that I wanna go out they would already go crazy.
So I’m a German studying English at college and normally I would have ‘American Literary History rn’ but I can’t bring myself to watch the video my professor sent to all her students bc her English pronounciation is so bad that I 1. cringe the whole time and 2. don’t understand like half of it.
But yeah I think I need to do it soon bc I already pushed my psychology class from yesterday to today because I had too much to do yesterday. I don’t wanna push all my courses back but it’s difficult to not feel lazy when you can manage everything on your own.
One thing that I totally underestimated in this whole study-from-home situation is how exhausting it is. And I don’t speak from the actual lecture or that I am forced to do stuff at home. I had homeworks and self-study exercises before this too. But the separation from learning and working space is what gets me rn. All the time I’m thinking, that I could use my time better, if I just start working at my laptop. Now I have the possibility to work for college 24/7 and I feel like I should do this to keep up. And this is honestly so mentally exhausting. Additionally I don’t have the contact with other students that normally relaxes me. The only contact that I have are video and phone calls that we regularly do to compare our works.
Today I got the information, that it is possible that not only the summer semester at my college but also the winter semester will be held online and I honestly am a little afraid of this. Normally I’m not a mentally weak person but this situation is mentally draining.
Today I brought my keyboard back to my room and am now trying to learn the Tokyo Ghoul theme song ‘unravel’. I haven’t played for years and I was never really good tbh vut I needed a challenge to not lose my mind.
So we young people stay home to not put the older ones at risk, but my 72 y/o neighbour walks by my window every hour and meets her friends/goes to the grocery store/ goes to the park? Perhaps the government should tell the older people not to underestimate this virus and not us youngsters.
Short update from me:
- schools are closed in Germany and my Dad was sent into home office, so the whole family is at home rn (my mom is a teacher so she is home too). Idk what I should think about this tbh. I love my family but being with them for 24/7 while we can’t go anywhere els might be a little bit too much. Especially since it’s for the next 5 weeks...
- After the cancelation of the book fair and the concert I wanted to go to even my holidays on the Southern Sea are cancelled now (didn’t surprise me thou) but that means that everything I was looking forward to (and worked my ass off for the last weeks) is now officially cancelled
- Idek if the next semester is gonna happen. They postponed the begin of the next semester 3 weeks (so now I have a total of 11 weeks of holidays... and I can’t do anything during them (despite working my job what I did the last four weeks)). So yeah... it could be that I will have MONTHS in which I can’t do anything.
- The first day without me leaving the house comes to an end (it’s 5 pm rn) and I’m dying of boredom. My dad works, my sister does her homework and works out and I’m just here, have cleaned my room and tried to continue my fanfiction that I haven’t dealt with for the past weeks. But honestly... I’m a social person and without social contacts I will go crazy...
